SUBJECT HISTORY: Observation Log: Day 001 -- This is a novelty. A new project was brought in today, one of the creatures that we have labeled 'retromorphs'. The novelty of it is how we came into possession of this particular specimen: we purchased her. Word came from a small town in Scotland that a local breeder’s wife was claiming to be in ownership of a horse that could turn human. Locals dismissed the story as the woman having gone mental after her husband's passing, because they had all known and admired the mare in question since her birth to a breeding pair of horses. However, knowing of the retromorphic abilities of some animals as we do, a small team was sent to investigate. Under the guise of prospective buyers, our people carefully observed the horses and found that one was, in fact, in possession of the ability. When they expressed interest in the mare in question, the woman was so eager to rid herself of the animal that she practically gave her to us. A loss, considering the horse is a good specimen, but her loss is our gain. Not only did we obtain one of these rare creatures for study, we have obtained a docile and eager to please animal for experimentation. As she was born a domesticated animal and raised among humans, she has no fear of us. It took only the smallest bit of coaxing and the promise of a few apples for her to cooperate with us and reveal her humanoid transformation. The specimen, who was named by the woman 'Loril', seems largely unable to control her animal to human transformation, and was only able to remain humanoid for a few minutes before becoming a horse once more. We are at this time unsure if this is the extent of her abilities or simply because she is unpracticed. There were no other confirmed cases of the mutation in her bloodline, but we will keep close watch. The ability must have come from somewhere, and we have her pedigree. This may be the chance to obtain several of these odd creatures. Even if we don't find any more, though, this is the perfect opportunity to learn just what these things can do and how far their abilities go. Observation Log: Day 014 -- It has been two weeks now since we obtained the retromorph specimen 'Loril'. When she came to us, she could barely hold her humanoid form. However, the creature has maintained her enthusiastic attitude and has remained very willing to do anything we want for a bit of praise. It has taken nothing more than gentle encouragement to get her to practice her morphing, and she is now able to hold her humanoid shape for extended periods. While she has not yet grasped human speech, she has shown a remarkable understanding for it. Objects will be retrieved when asked for after we have given the proper identification only once or twice, and simple yes or no questions will be answered with a not or shake of the head. 'Loril' is attempting to mimic our vocals, but so far it is nothing but nonsense. Observation Log: Day 173 -- We have learned as much as we can. 'Loril' is now nearly indistinguishable from a human when in her humanoid form, which she can now hold indefinitely. Her speech has retained a slight Scottish accent, we assume from being exposed to it for so long, but she can have an intelligent conversation without any difficulty. The only thing that identifies her as non-human is her hair, which reflects her horse form's mane and tail with its dual coloring. This is exhilarating from the 'teacher' standpoint, to see that she has learned so much so quickly. One cannot help but feel the smallest bit of pride in the accomplishment. However, it is also terrifying. This has proven without a doubt that, if they wanted to or if they were trained to, these creatures could hide in plain sight, right in our midst. The superiors have seen this as well, and have moved 'Loril' into a different phase of testing. They want to experiment on her, to see if retromorphs could be a viable form of weaponry. The ultimate sneak attack, as they termed it. 'Loril' will be moved to the science wing before the end of the week. Observation Log: Day 175 -- We have obtained a new test subject for scientific testing: a Clydesdale mare named Loril. She does not shy away from human touch, which will make things much easier. Observation Log: Day 179 -- Through the course of my observation, I have realized that she flinches every time a scientist comes near her. I've heard the experiments can be painful, that is probably why. While it saddens me to see such a docile creature react in such a way, it is a necessary evil. Observation Log: Day 183 -- It has been a week since the experiments began, and it seems that I have unknowingly formed an emotional attachment to the specimen known as 'Loril'. She backed herself into a corner and put her arms up to shield herself from me today when I went to fetch her. I found myself regretting that she was afraid of me. Observation Log: Day 226 -- Loril has not yet begun to exhibit signs of her genetic manipulation taking effect, but I can't stand to see her hooked up to machines and cooped up in a tiny cell anymore. She is losing weight and is very dispirited, nothing like the eager mare she was when she came to me. I'm putting in a request to have her transferred to the open enclosure named 'Menagerie'. It is a dangerous place, but at least she will have a chance there. Hopefully, the mutations we have tried to induce in her will give Loril a fighting chance at survival. I would hate to see her eaten. This is the danger of forming emotional attachments, I suppose. Observation Log: Day 231 -- TRANSFER REQUEST APPROVED. LOG CLOSED. SECTION V - OOC INFORMATION
