Katalea yawned as she shifted in her sleep, on arm slung outside of the hammock that was positioned in the corner of her side of the train car. Moving to turn to the other side her wings shifted and the same side leg stretched to join the arm on the outside of the sling-like bed. The fabric stretched and the eye-hooks creaked as the hammock slowly began to turn the slumbering bird-anthro over in her sleep before ...
BOOM
With a tumble of ligaments and feathers the female bird anthro flopped to the floor in a mess of bright colors, feathers and a few choice words. She groaned as she got up, rubbing her backside as she shifted to not be sitting on her her wings anymore. Grumbling she whined a bit as she pushed herself up, stretching her arms above her head as she blinked open her bright blue eyes. Glancing to the small window that let in a solitary beam of light from the outside she yawned and covered her mouth as she squeaked and blinked her eyes. Rubbing them she suddenly looked up at the sun through her window once more as a grin spread out across her face, this was a marvelous day for an adventure!
She knew exactly the two boys she was going to drag there.
Glancing over to her slumbering bunk-mate she grinned and practically skipped over to his bed, flapping her wings twice to propel herself over and land next to his bed. "AURIE!" she said as she grinned widely and stood over the part of his bed where his head lay. Her dreads dangled around her face as she peered down at him and reached out to shake his shoulders to rouse him. "Come'on Aurie! Get yur lazy butt up! The sun is up!" she said as she leaned down closer to him.

For a kid who wasn’t used to the world getting this cold, Aurelio felt wonderfully toasty. It was nippy inside the boxcar, sure; when he’d woken up several minutes ago, his face and ears had been icy. But then he’s simply burrowed down further into his blankets, which was, thankfully, enough to keep the cold out. He'd come to think of it as his own little cocoon of blissful grogginess. It didn’t even matter that he was sleeping on a wooden floor; he had no memory of mattresses, or at least any of quality. This was as comfortable as anything he’s ever slept in, and he was loath to leave his nest anytime soon.
Which is why he actually entertained the preposterous idea that maybe, just maybe, Katalea would leave him alone.
He was practically holding his breath from the moment she crashed to the floor. From that point on there was quite a bit of noise, none of which was the sort that would indicate she was leaving. And then, with another thud, she was next to his bedroll, unleashing her deafening voice on him. Somehow he managed to stay still. He didn’t even cringe at her choice of nickname, unlike he usually did; names that ended with “-y” sort of sounds were too cute and demeaning.
There were a few precious moments of silence, in which it was possible to still hold on to the illusion of hope. Stupid, stupid hope. When had Katalea ever given up?
This time there was shaking to go along with her grating voice. “Ay, cielos…well good for the sun, tell him I’ll be out later,” he groaned. When the shaking continued, he sat up abruptly, swatting at her. “Basta ya! I’m awake, alright?!” He let loose a much harsher string of Spanish under his breath as he tried to smooth down his bedraggled mop of hair. It was still a ridiculous mess when he stopped, which didn’t do anything to help the lethal glare he attempted to give his roommate. Taking a deep breath, he tried to use a somewhat civilized tone. “Okay. Digame. What is this wildly important reason for our being awake so early?”

OOC }} Lol, and a post right back atcha! ;] went to go read over her profile and totally forgot she knows Port & Spanish from living in South America for a good chunk of time, Australia for about a year or so (only learned some slang), and then was in Africa when she was captured. Gotta love traveling zoologist parents. ---------------------------
She grinned as he responded, not bothering to tell him that she understood him even though since they lived together she would occasionally say a word or phrase to him that he figured he had said to her. He didn't know her past or that she spent a lot of her life in South America, Australia and at the last part of her journey, Africa; where UNIT found her along with others. She never thought to tell him, since he never asked, and she preferred to only let people know things she felt like telling.
"So!" she said as she clapped her hands together and practically danced around his form to stand at his feet end of his 'bed'. "I was thinking of going on an adventure today. Though not just ANY adventure," she said as she crouched, her wings folded though poised behind her as she leaned forward and clapped her hands onto the ground to either side of Aurelio's legs. "I was thinking about going to Fulsi territory and onto that Russians farm to get some fresh veggies and stuff. Maybe even have some fun along the way, whatcha think?" she said as she winked and sprung up on the balls of her feet to quickly go over to her corner once more.
Grabbing her bow and quiver she slung each of them over her shoulder as she glanced back to him, the beads in her hair clinking lightly as she kept turning quickly. "I mean, if you're interested that is," she said as she trailed off, knowing full well the kid would jump at the chance to get off of Fallen territory. She knew she wouldn't have to convince him so that's why she wasn't trying so hard either. "Though if you want to go back to bed, I understand," she said as she looked back away, a smile lighting her face as she messed with her dreads in the small shard of mirror that was stuck to the wall of the car. She knew him too well; three ... two ...

At first, her proposal wasn’t particularly appealing. To an overenthusiastic person like Kat, anything could be an adventure. He suspected the term was being used here to hide the fact that, whatever task he was getting dragged away on, it was anything but an adventure. It had happened before.
At the mention of Fulsi, however, his posture straightened. It was the rare occasion that Aurie had ever been taken outside the desert territory. When he did, the trips were short and only to neutral areas. Never had he been given the option of venturing onto another ring’s domain. And it wasn’t just a visit, either. This was practically an invitation to a raid.
Of course, before he could answer, she went and killed his enthusiasm a little with reverse psychology. It was entirely unnecessary and was taking some of the fun out of this. Suddenly, accepting her offer felt less like an honor and more like being manipulated. The fact that she thought he was that gullible irritated him to no end. It was almost enough to make him turn her down flat.
No, that wouldn’t work either. Certainly it would be less embarrassing, but in the long run he would regret it. Once he got through this little indignity, it would be off to Fulsiland for real excitement and danger. He felt the need to point out her tricks even as he lunged for the bait. “Will you stop that? I know what you’re doing, pollino.” As he stood up, he earned the slight satisfaction of getting to look down at her, if just a little. “I’m awake now, might as well go with you,” he mused, adding a nonchalant little sniff at the end.

She glee'd a bit as he responded, even though he started with the whole mini speech about her reverse psychology. She didn't really care that he knew about it, it was fun anyway and it felt like practice more so than it actually working the way she wanted it. Every once in awhile she could pull it off more subtlety .. she blamed the fact that she had just woken up to her sloppiness in showing the obvious lure.
She grinned widely at him as he officially agreed to her proposition and practically bounced over to him to wrap her arms around his waist. It was odd being shorter than the younger boy, but she had learned fast even though she was average-ish in the height department boys were usually always taller.
She pulled back quickly though, expecting the squirming distaste of her physical affections and looked up to him. "Alright I'm ready! Let's go!" she said as she laughed and turned to head to the train-car door, grabbing the handle she pulled and slid it open, letting in a gust of cool air along with the morning rays of the sun.
"Comeon we gotta go grab one other person," she said with a glint in her eye. "He loves stirring up stuff and I think it'll be much fun with one more," she said as she laughed and started off north towards a particular train car. Walking up the ramp she knocked .. well sorta pounded on the door ... "LINC!" she said as she pulled the door open enough to stuck her head in. "You awake....?"

HEAD OF BORDER PATROL

The morning had gone slow enough. Well, if you could call it morning when you were out in the chill dark before dawn, walking one giant loop with a cup of tea and not much in the way of company. Excepting, of course, the two tenderfoots he caught sneaking across the border back toward Carna, a couple dead snakes in tow; a circumstance barely worth note. The two had bolted long before he could so much as nod or crack a tired smile. The pilfered wildlife going with them. Which was no skin off Fallen's nose, really. They were snakes, and likely venomous ones at that. They wouldn't be feeding the entire ring with their bravely caught goods, so he'd merely kept plodding the line, watching shadows lengthen as birds flit to life and reptiles crawled back into the earth before the heat could hit. All in all another absolutely thrilling morning in the Fallen territory. By the time he'd made it back to camp the sun was just peeking past the horizon, the air already warming, voices and the sounds of movement beginning to stir in pockets here and there. So he did what came next, naturally; scampered off to snag a quick bath before the full horde was running amok in every direction.
Clean and wide awake, he'd barely ducked inside the traincar he called home; toweling off his hair with the tail of his shirt, damp jeans slung low off one hip, when a cheerful bubble of conversation reached his ears in snippets, going from faint and lost among the crowd of typical early morning cacophony, to a recognizable chirp the closer it grew. One more what he wasn't entirely sure, but to be fair, one more anything where Kat was concerned usually spelled trouble, and the footsteps thudding up the ramp outside his door all but answered the question for him. Unfortunately. Her head when she poked it in past the crack in the door, was greeted with the damp, balled up wad of fabric that was his shirt, and a low laugh of, "Kat?"
Wincing only faintly at the shrill half-echo of her exuberant cry against the metal railcar's walls, he leaned sideways to snag the sleeve of his sweater off his hammock, and twist it around, and around, in hand until he found the bottom, and not bothering with the zipper, start pulling it on. "Dunno mate, are y' armed?" Came the muffled reply; sweater tugged, in a series of quick jerks, down the rest of the way over his head, before he shot her a lazy grin, crossing the scant distance between them in a few short strides. His hand closed around the door's narrow edge; a shove opening the gap wider despite metal on metal complaint, and allowed him a glimpse past her at the resigned teenager behind her. Brow arching with exact, exaggerated curiosity at the pair as his shoulder came to rest against the door frame, arms folding together across his chest. "...alright, who's bed y' put the scorpion in this time? C'mon Aurie, mate, jus' tell me what she did, or made y'do, an' I promise y' won't have'ta dig latrines f'r a week. Again."

Oh, how difficult she was making this. His shoulders sank as she charged forward, and he did nothing other than keep himself upright as she wrapped her arms around him. There was no point in trying to keep her back; she’d probably just be amused by the game and find a way around him. Besides, as much as he hated it, Aurelio felt it would be a bit cruel to deny her hugs.
Once they got going, he wasn’t so irritated with having been awoken early. In fact, if it had been anyone other than Kat, he might have never been cranky in the first place. Waking up early wasn’t a new concept; it was a requirement often enough here, and before the dome he’d often had to get somewhere for odd jobs when the sun was just getting up. It was kind of nice, the morning quietness. Because even with plenty of people already running around, it was peaceful. There was just some sort of unspoken agreement that you didn’t run around making a ruckus this early…for most people anyway. It was still a little chilly, but soon enough the temperature would be more around what he was used to. And if he dragged his feet a little, as if he were still a little put out, he could further enjoy the sensation of cool sand on his feet and not look like a gleeful little goofball.
He didn’t know who lived at the destination train car, and if they were a friend of Kat’s with a similar penchant for chaos, he wasn’t sure he wanted to know. He was a little surprised then, and the name she shouted. Linc? As in…yes, apparently Kat thought she would just drag the head of border patrol himself along with them. Aurelio had seen him around, of course, and spoken to him, but he’d never gone anywhere under his supervision. It was kind of flattering, really. Of course, it could just mean he was about to spend the whole day being embarrassed by Katalea in front of a higher-up.
He seemed to know Katalea pretty well. Okay, everybody in Fallen probably knew Katalea, but Lincoln seemed to know her know her. Aurie hoped that that joke wasn’t too similar to anything Kat had done in the past. Probably not; she wasn’t sadistic…was she?
The scrawny teen held his hands up at the question. “Hey, if she’s been up to something, she hasn’t told me about it.” Psh. A break from digging duty. Good one. That might be their favorite thing ever to relegate him to.

A muffled 'oofblech' fell from her mouth as she then giggled, grabbing the shirt that had decided to stay atop her head and straightened to stand at her full height of not-tall-at-all as she watched her friend pull on suitable wear for the slightly nippy weather. She laughed at the question as she moved to show off her bow and quiver to him as his head popped out from inside the sweater, a huge grin on her face. "Always, yaknow, just in case," she said as she laughed and winked to him in a knowing unspoken time of when they first met. It was interesting enough ... amusing to her mostly; but hey, who walks out of no where when she's practicing her shooting? That guy.
"Scorpion? Nah, definitely not as fun as what I wanna do right now!" she said with a wide grin as she walked over to him. Tugging him down by his hoddie collar she used her other hand on his shoulder to balance herself as she went up on her tiptoes to lean up and speak low into his ear. "How about a raid to get some veggies from that Russian? I haven't had anything that tasty in forever!" she said in quiet excitement, granted it was a loud-ish whisper considering she wasn't hiding anything from her bunk-mate or anything. She grinned and dropped back down to flat-feet as wings shifted behind her, feathers raising and smoothing as she shuddered a little in the cold. Granted she was dressed for mobility and not convenience of warmth.
"So what'dya say, huh? We haven't done anything in forever!" she said with a begging little pout to her lip as she wiggled her hips a bit in anticipation. It didn't take too much to get the Head of Border Patrols attention, that was for sure. She was sure that he'd go along with it -- cause if her didn't then she was kinda in a spot since then he'd know and probably do the responsible thing and make her not go. And also assign her some labor to keep them distracted. Plus, Lina had a weakness for her gender, which she was going to use to her advantage.
