Psychological Evaluation and Background
SEXUAL PREFERENCE: Heterosexual[/size][/u]
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Persephone is quite an extrovert, though not in the way you'd expect. She has a calm, quiet demeanor. Her voice never gets very loud, and she doesn’t use a lot of facial expression. She isn't one to force her company on people who don't seem to want it. Immune to awkward silences, she doesn't talk unless she has something to say.
Most of the time, she's got plenty to say. If you don't seem to mind, she might just talk your ear off. She loves people, whether interacting with them or just watching them. Her quiet exterior hides a playful, fun-loving person who will try almost anything once. There aren't many ways to embarrass her.
In fact she enjoys a little time in the spotlight, and she’s not above a little showing off. It’s tactful enough that no one would accuse her of anything more than hamming it up a little for fun. But deep down Seph likes to have attention on herself, even if it’s because people think she’s odd. In fact she likes being known as a bit of a screwball. Most of her little quirks and tics were things she adopted for the fun of it. She likes to confuse people and mess with them.
Though one has to wonder if all of it is just a show. The M is a terrible experience for anyone, and she's not the type that handles trauma well.
Persephone grew up being told that there would be a lot less trouble in the world if people would just stop beating around the bush and say how they really feel about things. This belief makes her very open with her thoughts and emotions. As long as you're willing to talk to her, she doesn't see any reason she can't dump her feelings on you. Some people see her as whiny because of this. In addition, she sometimes insults people without meaning to.
Unfortunately, she tries to force this idea on other people as well. If she notices something's bothering you, Seph won't take 'it's nothing' for an answer. You will tell her what's wrong. Maybe it will be unpleasant, but you'll feel much better once you get it out.
Persephone is not as cruel as she might sound at this point. She noses into other people's business because she's concerned about them. Her blunt words are rarely meant to hurt people; she sees it as respecting them enough to not lie to them. She's always been sensitive, quick to empathize with people. Though sometimes people get on her nerves, she can't stay mad at them long.
In fact she doesn't seem to realize what people will do to survive a place like the Menagerie. Her view of life in general is rather idealistic. She's always loved romance and happy endings. She has a great appreciation for the 'small things', and can find something interesting about nearly any situation. She tends to give her trust away too easily.
Persephone's not someone you can easily define as easygoing or irritable. Whether or not she'll get aggravated when provoked is situational and hard to predict. Often, if she feels like what's happening is out of her control, Seph will just grin and bear it. But if something goes wrong at the fault of a person, she can get rather annoyed.
She actually used to be more flighty; she learned to be this way to avoid becoming a frazzled perfectionist like her parents. One could argue that she just went to the opposite side of the scale. She isn't one for drama and fights, so she generally tries to cooperate and keep peace. This makes it pretty easy to walk all over her. She's also a disorganized slacker. In Persephone's mind, as long as it's not vitally important, there's no rush.
She's not so relaxed about things that might actually be risky. One can catch hints of this in everyday life; Seph is rather cautious and jumps at sudden movements or noises. In the face of danger, her nonchalance disappears completely, and she becomes a flighty wreck. Nor is she one to face her fears. As much as Persephone would like to think she would stay loyal to a friend no matter what, deep down, she suspects that she would leave them to save her own skin.
KNOWN HISTORY:
As one might guess from her accent, Persephone was born and raised in England. Woking, to be exact. She was the second and last daughter of Fletcher and Lavinia Todd, a pair of psychologists who were determined to be the perfect parents.
From a very early age, they tried to help Persephone and her older sister Noisette reach their full potential. Their parents were always trying to stimulate their brains, foster their creativity, or bond with the girls.
Their parents were also strict. The sisters were expected to excel at their schoolwork, and really at everything they did. Since the family was very health-conscientious, they were expected to stay active and watch what they ate. They were urged to get socially involved and serve their community and all that nice inspirational stuff. In addition, they were encouraged to find some activity they loved and devote themselves to it, to start building a future. Noisette was the artistic one, enjoying writing and visual art; Persephone preferred physical activity, particularly dance and running.
Sometimes the girls wondered how they had time for it all.
Perhaps the girls' parents could have been more careful about unconditional positive regard. They expected a lot of their daughters, and when they were younger, it was enough that Seph and Noisette wondered if their parents would love them less if they didn't live up to these expectations.
This never became a huge issue, but it wasn't resolved either. There was often a little tension between the girls and their perfectionist, worrying parents.
Neither Fletcher nor Lavinia were shifters. They weren't even aware of such beings. Once the news came out, however, they joined protests of how these people were being treated. Perhaps that's why anyone ever thought to get them checked out.
Nothing happened until a year later, when the girls were visiting their grandparents. It was early morning; Noisette was still in bed, and Persephone was making coffee for her grandfather. There was a knock at the door; when she opened it, what she guessed were government agents barged into the house.
At that moment, her grandmother came into the room. She took one look at the agents and snarled, and her body contorted. A gun was raised. When Roberta Todd hit the floor, it was in the body of a polar bear.
Persephone screamed a warning to her sister as the intruders ran upstairs. By the time they crashed through Noisette's door, however, all they found was an empty room and an open window.
And so Persephone came to the sterile white hell that the Keepers called their lab.
These people were eager to observe a first shift. But it being her first shift, Persephone had no clue how she was supposed to turn into an animal. After several threats, bribes, and frustration, another shifter was brought in to help her. The monitors they'd attached to her popped out, some of them tearing her skin. None of them cared, because the young British woman was now a tiny nudibranch writhing on the floor.
The usual tests were just the beginning for Seph. She was one of the unfortunates chosen for the anthropomorphic experiments, though no one ever told her that. All she knew was that she'd wake up from a visit with the Keepers and find herself with one of the aspects of her shift form. Soon she was convinced that they were going to completely transform her into a barely-sentient gastropod.
Around this time she got a cellmate, a 12-year old girl by the name of April Thompson. Poor April had a rather rude introduction to the Menagerie. She was shoved into an electrified cage with a strange woman who woke up screaming because her eyes were gone and some sort of antennae-like things were growing out of her head.
Despite the traumatic introduction, the two girls hit it off, and helped each other through the rest of their time in the labs. Persephone gave April emotional support as she underwent experiments, and April did her best to support Seph as she slowly lost her humanity.
Finally, there came the day when the anthros were let loose in the dome. Persephone found herself rejected and hunted, an outcast in a world of outcasts.
She never joined the Bestia. Instead, she found her place with a small group of anthros she met on the day she was released. The glue of this group was a black leopard anthro by the name of Antonia. This woman was horribly paranoid, and as a result had worked to become a master of evasion and secrecy. In the outside world, she couldn't compete with government agencies and their technology. Here in the dome, her enemies were on her level.
When the Bestia did form, Antonia was adamant against joining. Such a huge group was just asking to be attacked, she said, and he felt that their small group was safer.
Two of her followers decided to take their chances with the new ring, leaving Persephone and a frog anthro named Emile. Once April was released, she joined them; it wasn't difficult for Seph to find the girl's scent.
As so for the next three years, these four scrounged out a living. They suspected Antonia’s paranoia was a disorder, but it kept them alive. She taught her followers to use routes that were hard to follow, to run up walls and jump from heights safely. In fact, they had hardly any knowledge of fighting; on the rare occasion that someone found them, their strategy was to make like the wind instead of fighting. And it worked. When the Bestia fell, Antonia's pack was safe and unknown to most of their enemies.
Persephone soon realized that the weather made her a liability. Summer could be dealt with, but winter basically incapacitated her. She tried to be helpful during the cold months, but eventually Antonia told her to just stay hidden and wait for the others to bring her food. Which wasn't too bad; with her metabolism slowed so much, she didn't have to eat much at all. But Seph knew it wasn't just an act of kindness. She was slowing everyone down, and Antonia didn't want to have to leave her behind if they were attacked.
The panther woman couldn't save them from everything. Their first casualty was April; the poor girl was bitten by a snake while scavenging through the junkyard. By the time she found the others, it was too late to help her.
Tragedy struck again last winter. After going out on a hunting trip with Emile, Antonia came back alone to Persephone's hiding place. When Seph struggled awake, she found her leader Seph treated the injury as Antonia sobbed out an explanation. She and Emile and discovered the hard way that Delica park was now Fulsi territory. Naturally the two were attacked, and both injured. Antonia broke free and ran, not stopping to help Emile.
Persephone didn't have the skill to treat such a serious wound, and she could do even less to sooth Antonia's guilt. She really wasn't surprised when her leader was dead the next morning.
The nudibranch anthro managed to keep herself alive until spring. She quickly realized that she hated being a loner. So when the Nakoma formed, she decided that, with all due respect, to heck with what Antonia would have said about it.
SECTION III____________
Physical attributes and characteristics
GENDER: Female
HEIGHT: 5'6"
WEIGHT: 117 lbs.
BODY BUILD: Small-boned and gaunt.
HAIR: None
EYES: Seph only has eyespots, which fortunately work much better than normal eyespots. These don't show up against her face markings.
SKIN/FUR COLOR: Along the front her skin is stark white. Blotchy black markings cover her face, back, and the outsides of her arms and legs. Her hands, feet, and lips are light purple.
MUTATIONS: The only facial feature she has left is her mouth. As noted above, she has eyes, but they are unrecognizable. Her nose has been replaced by a pair of orange rhinophores, antennae-like structures that protrude from her forehead and can be retracted.
The transformation affected more than her face, of course. She has no hair and no breasts. Her skin is a little too soft and fleshy. Also, she has almost completely lost the ability to thermoregulate. This has its advantages and disadvantages. She doesn't have to eat as much as most people, and on warm days she has a lot of energy. But she also gets overheated easily, and when the weather is cold, she can hardly move.
ABILITY: Scent - There is nothing special about a nudibranch's sense of smell, if you could even count it as such. But as the Keepers were getting Persephone to grow rhinophores, they experimented with how sensitive they could make them.
APPAREL: Persephone was caught in and is still wearing her pajamas, which consist of a light blue camisole and grey sweatpants. She managed to get her hands on a ratty old black hoodie and some tennis shoes, but can't find any useable socks. Also, she has an old brown chullo that she never takes off, so as to hide her baldness.
ANYTHING EXTRA: I have drawing to dispel confusion.
