Psychological Evaluation and Background
SEXUAL PREFERENCE: Straight
PERSONALITY TRAITS: Kimthile has a tendency to make very quick judgements about people that are very hard to change. The first conversation with him almost entirely dictates how he sees you for the rest of your life. Make a bad impression, and almost everything you do has an ulterior motive, in his eyes.
Make a good impression, however, and there’s no getting rid of him. Kimthile can’t stand to be on his own. Silence unnerves him, solitude bores him to tears. Almost anyone is acceptable company, if they’re the only option; but heaven help you if he picks you as favorite out of a group. He attaches himself to people, following them regardless of how it might annoy them, if he even notices. He’s loud, he talks a lot, but at least he wants to let you have your fair share of talking as well.
Kim dones’t necessarily make himself easy to get along with, though. Chinstraps are widely considered the most aggressive species, and Kimthile shows it. He’s very territorial, and easily provoked. And yet he rarely seems actually angry. His fierceness is always in a flippant, cocky manner. As mush as he is determined to beat you down, he’s too enthusiastic and irreverent to seem genuinely enraged.
He isn’t easily insulted, he just pretends to be so he can scuffle with you, whether verbally or physically. Anything you say that is meant to put him down is an excuse to defend his honor, despite the fact that it was never injured. This also makes him rather insensitive. Of course what he’s saying might hurt you; that’s how he gets a reaction. Which is just a sign that you really ought to stop letting such things bother you.
Given certain other traits of his, he seems destined to get himself killed. For one thing, he fears nothing. If a situation darkens to the point that even he sobers up, he would get angry, but not scared. Not overtly. The bird also has a tendency to jump into dangerous situations without hesitation. It’s not that he acts before he thinks, it’s just that the possible risks sound so appealing.
Not that Kim’s completely out of control. He’s learned that other societies have leaders, and then you’re expected to do what these leaders tell you to do. And if he wants to still be allowed to stay around people, he’s going to have to submit to this idea of authority. He still needs to be reminded of that at times. It helps that he can channel his territorial nature into a sort of loyalty, an attachment to people that he will fight fiercely to defend.
As one might expect, he’s strong in the face of adversity. In fact, as much as he’ll stand up to those who oppose him, Kim is rather fatalistic. Things that happen by chance, that can’t be blamed on people, he just accepts that there’s nothing he can do about them. He takes them without complaining and tries to work through it as best he can.
KNOWN HISTORY; Among thousands of penguins that gathered on the South sandwich islands each year, a surprising few were retromorphs. They kept with the other birds for safety, but largely disdained of the company. They never actually shifted much; the other body was pathetic against the cold of their homeland. But human intellect was still there, so these retros tended to feel superior to the chattering, unintelligent masses.
It was into this small clique that Kimthile and his sister were born, and thus began a long string of simply being the lucky ones. They weren’t stolen by birds of prey, their parents weren’t eaten by the sea leopards, and none of them froze to death. The two joined the crèche of other chicks when they were a month old, as was custom. He socialized mostly with the few other young retros. But even the ‘common’ birds were good company, even if Kim’s parents didn’t approve.
Then the time came for the massive gathering of penguins to disband, and Kim took up with his shifter friends.
They liked to think they were getting more out of life than the usual eat, mate, and survive. But there was still no real purpose to their life, other than carousing and indulging their daredevil inclinations. Kim and his friends traveled farther out into the pack ice than most, looking for new things to discover. They tried things that sounded dangerous. The bothered the strange new birds and seals they met. In particular they caused trouble for any sea leopard they came across,no matter how much of a bad idea this proved to be. They figured that with their gifts, they ought to try to protect their kind.
Not that they didn’t make any attempts to start families, as was expected of them. They returned to the breeding grounds each year with the rest of the chinstraps, meeting with the small society of retromorphs, on the look out for candidates among countless ‘common’ birds. Of course, they had more selective than their simple relatives, and not in as much of a rush to find the person they meant to spend their life with. It didn’t worry Kimthile that he failed to find the right girl every year.
Then there was one day, when what they assumed were just bizarre-lloking retromorphs came to visit. These creatures were the right size and shape, but they were covered in something that looked nothing like feathers or sealskin. The older retros wanted to just leave these creatures alone until they knew more about them. But Kim and his friends were off to investigate almost as soon as they heard about these strangers. They converged on the first one they found and attempted to interrogate it.
This scientist was of course bewildered to be suddenly surrounded by a gang of teenagers, running around naked this far south and yapping at him in a strange, animalistic language.

Physical attributes and characteristics
GENDER: Male
HEIGHT: 26 inches
WEIGHT: 8.5 lbs
BODY BUILD: His form has gotten lighter since his mutation; his bones are hollow like most birds, and he doesn’t store nearly as much fat as he used to. Which is fortunate, since he would have been at high risk for heat stroke otherwise.
FUR: He demonstates the typical countershading of his species. However, while his front is still white, his back is now a brilliant teal due to his mutation.
EYES: Red-brown
MARKINGS: None but the signature marking that gives his species its name.
ANYTHING EXTRA: Kimthile was mutated with collared kingfisher DNA. In addition to the weight and color change noted above, his flippers are now normal wings, capable of flight.
HUMAN DESCRIPTION: As a human, Kimthile is big; He is tall, big-boned, and rather heavyset. His hair is dark like his feathers once were, thick and a bit shaggy. His face is very expressive, with a wide, crooked grin and small, dark eyes.
