Psychological Evaluation and Background
SEXUAL PREFERENCE: Bisexual; Leans heavily towards Male preference.
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
The most important thing to know about Raneen is that she is opinionated. It doesn't matter how big or small of an issue that comes to her attention; she always has a stance on it, and is willing to share her thoughts at a moment's notice. She will not, however, just go blurting out and forcing her opinions on other people. While she's happy to share them, she won't do so until asked. Be careful if you ask though, because she will tell the truth. Whether it's something that will be received well or not, Raneen won't shy away from telling things as she truly sees them. If she thinks something is silly that other people think is great, she'll tell you that, and include with it a whole list of reasons to back up that opinion. Every opinion is backed by reason and, Raneen would like to think, logic. So what if her logic doesn't make sense to anyone else? It's still logical!
Raneen may come off as abrasive to some people, mostly because she has a rather unexpected way of talking. Though she means no harm or insult to anyone by it, many of the things she says come off as sarcastic. This, on top of being rather blunt in the first place, can make it seem as if she's being rude when really she isn't meaning to be. Most of the time she simply talks without thinking first, and her brain works in sarcastic ways, and in pointing out the obvious. What she really needs is a 'Why thank you, Captain Obvious!' badge.
While generally a pleasant person, Raneen has a mood that is rather mercurial. She can be happy and laughing one moment and thoroughly irate the next, only to change back just as quickly. It has nothing to do with who she's with or what she's doing, it's simply who she is. She is particularly sensitive to the moods of others and often time takes them on as her own, even if just for a few minutes. This isn't something that happens consciously or willingly. In fact, most of the time she doesn't even realizes she's done so, and will give people around her quizzical looks if they bring up the fact. These mood swings are more pronounced during the winter months or if it is unexplainable cold outside. For some reason, the cold makes her more grumpy than usual and, while it doesn't necessarily mean that she's in a bad mood, she's more prone to unexpectedly snapping at people if she's cold.
These sudden mood shifts are often accompanied by something that makes Raneen very self-conscious. It doesn't matter if she is happy, sad, angry, confused, or just plain frustrated, any emotion that she feels strongly leads to tears. Often it's just in her eyes, the tears rarely fall unless she is extremely emotional, but the fact remains that the girl tears up at the drop of a hat. This, in turn, makes her even more emotional and frankly embarrassed, which simply makes everything worse. Most of the time the tears don't affect her beyond the embarrassment, but if they start to fall, Raneen will stop whatever it is she's doing and storm off, muttering darkly under her breath and cursing her own inability to control her emotions.
Other than her unexplained tendency to cry, this is generally a very laid back, easy going girl who is hard to really make angry. About the only thing that can truly rile her up is when someone gets put in harm's way. It doesn't matter if was a simple accident or intentional, Raneen is just as likely to get on the case of someone who walks into the path of an oncoming bicycle without realizing it as she is of someone who pushed another person into that path. On the other hand, it's almost laughably easy to please her. A simple compliment on anything that she's been a part of, a kind gesture such as opening the door for her to pass through, or even a chuckle if she tells a joke is enough to make the girl blush and grin.
KNOWN HISTORY:
Everything had been going so well. Life was good. Maybe not easy, but definitely good. Oh, there were the usual sibling spats, family disagreements, or groundings, but all in all, things were definitely good. How she missed those days.
For the first nineteen years of her life, Raneen had grown up in a middle class family as the youngest of three children. Her mother, though not a shifter herself, had known about her father’s shift form for decades. They had been friends through college, and he had shown her the truth about himself after things got well and truly ‘serious’. In other words, when she got pregnant. He hadn’t wanted her to freak out if the child turned out to be a Shifter like himself, which turned out to be a good thing, considering that their first child had indeed been like his father. Luckily for Raymond, Sr., his wife to be had taken things well, all things considered. She had married him and had two more children, the youngest of which had also been a Shifter. Why, she’d even followed him to Africa when he wanted to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a tour guide and connecting with his animal’s roots.
For her part, Raneen was fairly decent with her schooling, never really struggling with anything, though she did excel when it came to music. She showed early an affinity for the violin. Her small size didn’t make her all that good at sports, but she’d never really minded that. Sometimes, her father even took her out on tour with him.
She really did miss that life.
It was because her father was an outspoken individual that it happened. When the news came about the tribe of Shifters that had been brutally wiped out, her father was among those who stood up against such things. One of those that revealed that Shifters weren’t an isolated incident, but a real ‘threat’ to human kind. And, as things do, anything that isn’t the same is obviously something that needs to be exterminated. So they were turned in by their neighbors, their ‘friends’. Only she, her brother, and her father were taken. Her mother and sister were ‘clean’, pure humans who had only been corrupted by the disease that were the Shifters.
Her father, naturally, was exterminated immediately. At nineteen and twenty four, the siblings had been deemed young enough for testing and had quietly been carted away. That was the last she had seen of her brother, though one of the Scientists had cruelly told her later that her brother had outlived his usefulness and been put down. Put down like a sick dog. The memory of the glee on the scientist’s face as he said that still haunted her.
Raneen was different, though. She was special. She was unique. She was lucky. At least, that's what they said. 'Lucky'. Hah!
Something in her genetics was open to mutation, and the scientists exploited that. They weren't just testing anymore. They were creating. Into her DNA they dove and tinkered, using her as their personal playground until, instead of simply taking on one shape or another, attributes of her human and shift forms began to mix. The change became slower, harder, and more painful with each successive morph, until finally she could not change at all. Her new half form was awkward and ungainly, the scientists not even bothering to cloth her after she became stuck in form because of her wings. They studied her new DNA for a while, but after she had outlived her usefulness, they dumped her into the Menagerie. After all, bats were uncommon. Maybe she would draw some attention, some sort of sick ‘special attraction’.

Physical attributes and characteristics
GENDER: Female
HEIGHT: 5’4”
WEIGHT: 102 LBS
BODY BUILD: As she is built for movement in the air, this girl is very slight and fragile looking, almost as if a good breeze would knock her over. Don’t let that fool you into thinking she can’t take care of herself, though!
HAIR: Naturally a dark brown, with slight red highlights to it, her hair is thin and soft, much like fur. To make things easier for her in the air, Raneen keeps her hair cropped short. If it’s an inch long, she considers it to be ‘too’ long, and will cut it again.
EYES: Wide set and large, her eyes are a velvety brown with very large pupils.
SKIN/FUR COLOR: Because of her preference for nocturnal activity, this girl is pale, pale, pale. Her skin is very lightly pigmented brown, making her appear as if she has the ‘olive’ skin tone that human kind so seems to covet. Yet even this slight coloration isn’t enough to hide the fact that she is so pale that on bright days her skin becomes almost translucent, showing her veins in stark detail. This skin is also very fragile, bruising easily and deeply.
MUTATIONS: Very small and light, like the Shifter she would have once become, Raneen is built solely for flying. She has large ‘wing fingers’, made of thin bone that extends from her wrists. These vary in length according to how close they are to her body. The first, which lies directly against her arms when her wings are folded, reaches up to her shoulder. The second is as long as her forearm, and the third is as long as her palm. These ‘fingers’ are connected with a thin, flexible membrane that creates her 15’ wingspan and flows down to connect her largest wing finger with her thigh. These membranes are very dark brown in color, almost black. Rather than the usual human ears, Raneen has traditional rounded bat ears at the top of her head. Like most animals, these ears can swivel and twist independently from one another, allowing her to focus her hearing in any direction she so chooses.
ABILITY: Much like you would expect of anyone with her former shift, Raneen’s main ability is that of flight. She is not built for speed by any means, and can move only slightly faster in the air than her best running speed. However, her stamina is high, as is her maneuverability, allowing her to stay aloft and react to any attacks that might be aimed at her with ease. She also has exceptional hearing, though not as much so as those with the mutated ability. Her large ears pick up frequencies outside of the normal human range, and allow her to ‘hear’ vibrations in the air, much like one ‘hears’ a thick bass in music.
APPAREL: Everything that Raneen wears has to be custom tailored because of her wings. So that she can wear ‘normal’ clothes, she has tiny slices in her wing membranes, each no more than an inch long and placed directly against her natural body. There are three along each side of her torso, and four down each arm. The cuts have been cauterized so that they no longer try to heal together. Anything she has must be split along each side and fitted with ‘ties’ that can be slipped through the slices in her wings and used to secure the clothing to her body. She heavily prefers sleeveless tops, only putting on arm coverings in the severest of winter weather.
ANYTHING EXTRA: This girl is not necessarily nocturnal by choice. Rather, she has retained the large eyes of her previous bat shift, which allow her to take in vast amounts of light. Whether she wants to, or not. The bright light of the day is actually harmful to her. Sudden exposure without protection can leave her blinded for several minutes, and prolonged outings give her migraines. Another adaptation of her previous ability to shift is that Raneen is now ‘allergic’ to any sort of meat. Ingestion causes anything from mild intestinal discomfort to making her violently ill.
