The soft morning light streamed through the window, illuminating the tiny room with a gentle glow. Even inside, the air was icy cold, as the crumbling Inn had little in the way of insulation. Casey, however, still found himself warm and comfortable, wrapped snugly in Sascha’s wings like a cocoon. It was mornings like these where he never wanted to get up. He groaned and smushed his face against Sascha’s neck as the daylight threatened to reach him. Getting up meant leaving this perfect, toasty place for a day of bitter winter cold. No, he wasn’t going to move a muscle until he absolutely had to.
Casey pressed himself closer to Sascha’s bare torso and prepared for another few hours of rest, when he suddenly felt a damp, hot breeze on the back of his head. It came in short, consistent bursts that blew his hair in the wrong direction, and from the smell of it, he recognized the source. “Noodles, go back to sleep,” he begged quietly, lifting his face from its warm hiding place to see his young aussie pup waiting eagerly next to him. She only barked in response, a loud, ear-shattering noise that made him cringe. “Noooodles, it’s too early,” Casey whispered, trying not to wake Sascha. Though the bark might have done it.. If it hadn’t, surely the next three that followed would. “Okay, okay, I’m awake,” he sighed, as Noodles rushed over to smother both Casey and Sascha’s faces with licks. When she’d finally finished slobbering on them, she curled up on the floor next to them, her tail wagging incessantly.
“I guess we’re both awake now,” Casey sighed, seeing that Sascha had definitely not slept through Noodles’ good morning kisses. “Good morning,” he greeted with a smile, leaning over and giving Sascha a good morning kiss of his own. “It looks like a nice day out,” he added, noting the patch of clear blue sky through the half-uncovered window. Normally their makeshift drapes would have blocked out both the light and the sky, but it seemed Noodles had gotten to playing with the blankets while they were sleeping.
“Maybe we’ll actually make it outside today.”

The distant sound of barking reached out to him in his dream, carried by the cold wind from some far off reality. Sascha turned back to who he'd just been with, but the person had faded away and he couldn't quite remember who it had been. He could still feel the warmth of their hand in his, and it was strange how real it all seemed. He knew he must've been dreaming, because he had the strange sense of seeing someone he hadn't in a long, long time. A chill started seeping in, the warm summer air swirling about him slowly turning as cold as ice.
The barking grew louder, and as sudden as the dream had started, he jolted awake to the sound of Noodles' barking and a sudden flurry of warm licks. Sascha couldn't help but laugh at the small wriggling pup that demanded their attention, even at such early hours. He wasn't overly fond of dogs (they made him nervous) but she was the sweetest thing and Sascha found it easy to overcome his mild fear. It had taken a bit, but Noodles had swiftly won her way into his heart with her warm, affectionate kisses and incessant demand for nothing but love.
Sascha grinned as Casey rolled on his side, planting a good morning kiss on his lips. Warmth spread through him, flooding his body with gentle tingle of delight. "Bună dimineaţa," good morning he said in Romanian, grinning as he wrapped his arms around Casey and pulled him closer again, fighting off the biting chill in the air. He pulled his wings tighter around them, wishing for nothing more than just a few more hours of laying here, next to Casey, in peace.
But it seemed Casey had other plans for today, and as Sascha's eyes flickered to the window he had to admit it did look beautiful. A nice day for a walk, perhaps. Maybe all the wet snow would keep the Viruses inside. “Maybe we’ll actually make it outside today.” Sascha's eyes flicked back to Casey's with a coy grin, though he couldn't hold it for long and burst out laughing. "Maaaaybe not," he said, leaning over to kiss Casey on the tip of his freckled nose, then again on the lips. After a few moments he pulled away and pouted, just a bit. "I guess Noodles does need her walk," he said, slowly unfurling his wings, stretching his muscles. "And Pui need to have fresh air, stretch his wings." he said, motioning to the duck huddled at the end of the bed, his beak still tucked into his wing. "Maybe we can take them to pond at the park? If it's not froze over."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, width: 497px; height: 783px; background-image:url(http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i319/sketchedesigns/caseytable2.png)] Casey grinned at Sascha’s coy smile, his face flushing pink as he thought of the last few days when it had simply been too cold to venture outside for too long. As Sascha kissed his nose, and then his lips so tenderly, Casey thought for a moment that he might prefer spending another day inside after all. He lifted a hand to Sascha’s face and caressed his scruffy cheek, smiling softly into the kiss that he suddenly didn’t want to end so quickly. A disgruntled bark from Noodles reminded him of the impatient pup, and he pulled away as Sascha did, a tiny pout on his own lips. “Alright, girl, we heard you the first time,” he sighed. Noodles’ tail went into a full wag again as she raced to the door, waiting to go.
“Looks like she really needs her walk,” Casey agreed, rolling out of bed so Sascha could free his wings. He groaned as the cold suddenly nipped at his skin, and quickly slipped on the fur-lined jacket that was piled next to the bed. Casey zipped it up tight, and then turned to look at Pui as Sascha mentioned him. For something so adorable, that little duck was a bundle of bad news. Casey did his best to hide the look of distaste that came with the idea of bringing him along. Maybe he’d just been bitten on the nose or fingers or toes one-too-many times, but Casey didn’t like the grumpy little duck much. He put up with it though, since Sascha cared about him so much; odd, Casey thought, as Pui didn’t treat Sascha much better than he treated Casey. “That sounds like fun,” he said, pausing at the door so Sascha could handle the duck-wrangling.
Once Pui was safely tucked under Sascha’s arm, they headed out for the park, walking outside into what was surely a winter wonderland with Noodles prancing ahead of them. Snow covered every inch of the ground, and every branch of every tree. Everything was a pristine, glittering white. Casey hadn’t taken much time to appreciate sights like this before; it was hard when survival was the first thing on your mind all the time, but he had to admit that the Menagerie was sometimes a beautiful place. “Oh wow, it’s so nice out...” He paused, realizing that he was only cozy because he had his thick jacket on. Sascha couldn’t even wear a shirt with his massive wings in the way. “Are you gonna be okay like that?” Casey couldn’t help but worry, even if the bat anthro’s wings were like a jacket themselves.

The man he loved was at his side and there could be no wrong, not today. He knew it was probably a jinx to think that, but he pushed that away with a smile. Today would be his day without worry, without feeling as if the whole world would come crashing down on them. He stepped up beside Casey as they walked from the Inn lobby and out into the ice-covered world. Sascha watched Noodles prancing ahead of them, dashing through the snow and darting after a bird or cricket. Pui struggled under his arm, and Sascha let the duck loose, watching as Pui waddled after Noodles, quacking with every disgruntled step.
Sascha sighed and shook his head with a smile, wrapping his hand in Casey's as they continued walking. He gave their hands a gentle swing, delighted that for once he could walk hand in hand with someone he loved and not worry about his brothers ruining it. Darker thoughts yearned to break free in his mind, but he'd promised himself that today would be for Casey and happy things and they dissolved almost as quickly as the snowflakes on his nose. “Oh wow, it’s so nice out...are you gonna be okay like that?” Casey said, and Sascha laughed.
"Yes, I will be good," he said, squeezing Casey's hand. "Back home winter was badder than this, much more cold, and had less to keep me warm," he said cheerily, dragging Casey to his side and curling his arms around him in a hug and nuzzled Casey's neck. "I didn't have you." He laughed and gave Casey a sloppy smooch before Pui and Noodles dragged his attention away. The duck had caught up with Noodles and was flapping after her, pecking at her paws and giving chase. "Pui! Bad duck! No bite!" he hollered, dashing after the pair. He only got a few steps before he felt the ground shift under his feet and he plummeted forward, landing face first in a snow-drift, his wings the only thing sticking from the pearly white snow.

Casey laughed and stumbled into Sascha’s arms as he was pulled through the snow, falling against the anthro’s solid chest. “I’ll make sure I keep you toasty, then,”

he promised, kissing Sascha back and reaching up a hand to teasingly scratch his scruffy chin. “That face is too nice to be frozen into a Saschasicle!”Noodles’s frightened yelp ripped Casey’s attention away from Sascha, and he turned to see her dashing through the snow, her tail tucked between her legs, and her ears pinned back in terror. Pui had no trouble keeping up with her, and continued his attack. That feathery little nuisance— Casey could have sworn he saw a hint of satisfaction as he nipped at Noodles’s paws. “Noodles, come here!” He called, running a few steps behind Sascha to save his dog from the duck terror. Noodles bounded toward him, Pui still flapping after her, when suddenly Sascha disappeared into the snow. All three of them froze in their tracks and stared in shock at the wings sticking out of the snow. Casey didn’t know whether to laugh or be panicked, but he carefully picked his way over to the hole in the snow, careful not to fall in himself. “…Need some help?” He offered, just the tiniest hint of amusement in his voice. “Noodles, dig ‘im out!” Casey called, and Noodles raced over and began kicking snow away. Casey helped out, pushing armfuls of snow aside until they were closer to Sascha. “One, twoo, threeee!” Casey tugged on one of Sascha’s wings, and Noodles tugged at his pants in an effort to help, until they were finally able to get him out of the snowdrift. “I think I need to make good on that promise to keep you warm now, huh?” ooc: -drowns in adorable- HELLP MEEE [/div]
