JOSHUA Byers hood
Josh was among the first inhabitants of the M, before there were 3 rings, even. His time here has shaped how he views things and has twisted his old personality. Those who knew him before this place may see glimmers of the old Josh, but this place has changed him more than he realises.
Before being captured, Josh was the class clown. He has always had a rebellious side, and in this place that has shined through more than anything. As a boy, Josh was nothing like his stern, academic parents. He strove to always make people smile, and in that sense was always making jokes and goofing off. Never one who cared for academic learning, Josh valued his own common sense over facts, a flaw that remains with him now, if not chipped away a little.Always the optimist, Josh could point out the bright side of any situation and manage to believe it himself.
After almost 8 years in this place, Josh still has a knack for pointing out the bright side of a situation, but he no longer believes what he's saying and he no longer says it with happy tones. His jokes have turned from happy and quirky to full of sarcasm. His main goal for making jokes is to get a rise from someone, he wants banter not smiles now. He has become excellent at talking himself out of almost any situation to avoid the use of his above average fighting skills. He has never been one to resort to violence, and that is one thing that has managed to stay true in this horrible place. If he doesn't have to fight, then he won't, and he goes out of his way to make sure he never has to fight. That is part of his decision to continue as a rogue. If he must fight, Josh fights to wound as often as he can manage, but even then he is no stranger to killing someone--not in this place.
Josh is ever the helper. True to his nickname, Josh is the Robin Hood of the M. He uses his talents of stealth and trickery, combined with his love of helping others to steal from the higher ups of the rings. He's been known to steal valuables from the leaders of each ring and leave them lying about for the worse off in a different ring to find. Long ago he had a deal with Manic for access to their weapons supply to aide in this cause of his, but things have changed in that area. He also enjoys taunting the leaders by simply rearranging their things. Knocking them down a notch, to know that they are not invincible. His attitude for the most part is that if he can't have some fun with it, then why bother?
JUST THIS LEFT NOW AUGH
Josh was born and raised in Lancaster, his family having lived there for generations. They were a well off and well know family in England, and of course they had their secrets. His entire family had the gene that gave them their shifting ability. They had kept the secret well for many years.
Josh grew up with his family teaching him to hone his shifting skills and he did. His days were made up of school, shifting lessons, bow lessons, sword lessons, and some language lesson. Josh loved his family dearly, but to him they were all too serious. His clown personality was the result of those feelings, but the desire not to take them out on his family, so he became the class clown at school. He often got in trouble and his parents were disappointed and he got himself a reputation that ruined the first impressions of his siblings when they entered the school. They resented Josh for that, but they did love their brother and Josh was extremely protective of them both as they grew. He was the older brother, it was his job.
Josh never really liked the fact that his family never did much productive with their money, they just bought expensive things and sent the kids to private schools. The rest of it was left to grow in bank accounts and in stocks. He was a down to earth kind-of guy and always liked to help people and it was frustrating that his family wasn't too keen on that option of spending their money.
It isn't certain how the secret got out, but Josh was captured at the start of all the commotion about shifters. His family, in order to keep themselves safe from the hubbub, paid the government to keep the rest of them safe--there was nothing they could, or wanted to do to get Josh back. Thus he was thrown in a room with others like him and tested on by the keepers. It is little known that Josh and Manic shared a room during this time and the two got to know each other very well and saw each other at their most vulnerable points. Josh felt a need to protect this boy, as he was just a boy then, like he'd protected his brother as Manic and Ben were both the same age. He was extremely angry when Manic was taken from the room and caused quite the fuss until he, himself, was also taken out quite a bit of time later.
When Josh was thrown into the Menagerie, Manic had been there a while and a sort-of government had been put in place. Manic was the leader and he'd changed quite a bit, or so he had to seem. Josh was outcast from the group because of his shift. Soon after people broke off from Carna and formed Fulsi with Kane as their leader. And after that anther group broke from Fulsi and formed the Fallen rather clumsily. Manic had since approached Josh in secrecy and they'd formed a bit of a pact and he requested for Josh to aide the Fallen in forming. Josh worked with Annabelle to keep the Fallen afloat and they soon became a functioning ring. Josh went back to his old outlaw self and caused trouble where he could for fun and did some jobs for Manic--not killing anyone, at least that was a rare occurrence, just gathering information. And Manic was the one who started the rumors and made Josh into this legendary Robin Hoodian, giving him the nickname of Robin Hood.
Their relationship continues today, in secrecy--as very few know about it other than Manic and Josh. Josh hasn't seen Manic in a long while, and now sees opportunity in this time of war to get something out of it, and maybe stir things up a bit, twist them around--who knows what will happen.
