The Labs of The Menagerie are one of the places subjects fear most. It is here that The Keepers enact their cruel tests, and discover horrible new ways to make life in The Menagerie more difficult. Each lab is equipped with highly technical scientific equipment, as well as containment units and testing tables, where the worst of their wicked experiments are done. Subjects can be moved from the Holding Cells down below to the Lab’s containment unit, for easy access during the work day. Each containment unit has the same electrified cage door, to prevent any escapes or distracting cage-rattling.

Deep down in the Keeper’s Compound, below the floors of labs and testing rooms, is a whole basement layer of holding cells in which experiments are kept prior to testing, or in between experiments. The sterile white lights are always on, and there is now way to gauge the passing of time. The room is dim, cold, dirty and wet, more so than would be expected from a futuristic facility such as this one. With the comfortable, clean laboratories above, it is no doubt that one would wonder whether this was done on purpose, to add to the fear and discomfort the shifters and other experiments must experience. Each kennel-like cage is large enough for one or two subjects, though sometimes more are crammed into them, leading to complications like electric burns from rubbing up against the cell’s cage door.

On a higher level of the Compound is a hospital wing, staffed with highly skilled doctors and nurses. Subjects can be found lying strapped to hospital beds, often with horrible complications and side effects from the Keeper’s experimenting. However much the staff enjoys making the shifter’s lives miserable, they know that without being able to keep them alive, The Menagerie would run out of valuable subjects, making all of their work a waste. The doctors and nurses here work night and day, tending to patients and often fixing them up with experiments of their own.

Here, The Keepers of The Menagerie can watch everything that goes on in the city below. Cameras record every location, all around the clock, and feed the video back to the room live. The walls and desks are covered in giant monitors, and up to ten keepers can be stationed in this vast room at any time, to make sure that any event that needs their intervention is caught in time. Every instance of time in The Menagerie is backed up onto recordings for future reference.

Another area of the Compound finds a comfortable room where the Keepers can sit back and relax. Many come here to take a break from torturous experiments, grabbing a cup of coffee or a snack from the cafeteria and sitting down on one of the room’s many sofas to chat it up with their co-workers or watch a bit of the news. Places such as the Keeper’s Lounge seem like a totally different world next to the cruelties found in the dome just outside, or even the ones right down the hall.

Board Description
KEEPERS COMPOUND
Just behind the massive enclosure’s sturdy double layer of bullet and explosion-proof glass stands a compound of buildings, the infamous place where the Keepers of The Menagerie do their work. The bleak-colored buildings are guarded carefully, with security at every entry point. The only way in is to be taken there or to be an employee. Entrants undergo thorough security screenings, from checking computerized identification cards, to submitting themselves to laser eye scans. The Keepers make their way into the fortress every day to get to their tasks, traveling through the endless corridors that await them every morning, stark white walls their only companions as they work.
