Dawn had just broken over the horizon and Aiden had already been awake for an hour. He hadn’t been able to sleep, for reasons he would most likely not disclose. Being in the Menagerie still freaked him out. As much as he tried to hide it, he had come to realise that people were frequently dying in that big clear dome of theirs. Innocent people were losing their lives. It's not going to make me stop living my life though. That was the thought that kept him going. Twenty four years of life and he wasn’t ready to stop breathing just yet. He was ready to continue with life, even if it was inside that hell. He had Robin too. Robin! Looking up from his perch in the tree, he realised his brother was most likely still asleep. Frowning, Aiden jumped down from his perch atop the tree, his body trembling as he hit the ground, skin turning to fur and hands turning to paws. The red merle Aussie began running back towards his brother, wanting to get there before he woke. Hope the bugger doesn’t kill me for this, he thought, nearing the place that seemed so familiar to him. He still wouldn’t call it home, because that was back with their mother, and that place didn’t exist anymore. Aiden supposed that perhaps now home had to be with his brother, and that made him content enough. At least they were together. He would be dead without Robin, there was no denying that. Bounding up to his brother’s silent body, Aiden’s mouth widened into an idiotic grin, not something normally found on a dog. Licking his brother’s ear, Aiden laughed, though it came out as strange grumbling sounds from the animal. “Wake up Robin,” he murmured. “Meet me at the oasis in two hours. If you’re not there I promise I’m gonna do something stupid. And if I cark it, then it’s on you.” Turning around, Aiden’s tail flicked behind him as he headed towards the area that had only just been won back from Fulsi. It pleased the young shifter to know that finally that small hole of beauty was back under their command. He hated seeing Fulsi idiots around there, but now thankfully he didn’t have to deal with that. The canine finally reached the soft serenity of the oasis, running straight for the pool in the centre. On its banks, he bent his head and drank, his breathing gradually slowing, his chest no longer heaving. Walking back towards a small patch of grass in the middle of a circle of trees and bushes, the Australian curled up, his head on his paws. Closing his eyes, he let his breathing continue to slow, allowing himself to slowly drift off. “Wake me up when Robin gets here,” he mumbled to no one in particular. Though tired, he didn’t want to miss his brother. Robin was often busy with medic duties now, and Aiden truthfully missed the company. Of course, he was still pleased his brother was achieving his dream. Aiden had been given his crack at police life, and now it was Robin’s turn. Robin had stuck by him so he would stick by Robin. |
