She struggled to stay awake, afraid to slip under the darkness that threatened to consume her. Her breath was shallow and shuddering, stumbling over the hurdling blocks of life. Her body was cold, the snow surrounding her on all sides, as she struggled to lift her head. Her body was battered and bloody, severely mauled by the Analoya hunter that she had had an unfortunate encounter with. Her right hind leg was mangled into an almost unrecognizable form, flesh and bone revealed. It was amazing that she had yet to bleed to death, but it was coming. Her lungs ached as she let out a low whine, marred by the pain that she felt. She was almost unrecognizable as it were, blood matting into her reddish fur. One of her good paws gave a twitch, another painful howl leaving her lips.
She could hardly keep her eyes open, let alone keep her head up off the dirt. She had not been able to get inside the safehouse where she was supposed to meet her friend. Hestia. Her name roused another pitiful howl from her throat, though it was raw and aching from her screeches of pain. She wasn't even sure how she had gotten away from the cat, or how she had managed to run back to the safehouse. Her weak legs scratched at the dirt, trying to move, but she couldn't even rise. The underneath of the house was usually hidden by ivy leaves, making it a safe haven but now it felt like a cage with the snow all around. She had no idea if anyone would even see the bloody trail that she had left, or the hole in the snow and fragile branches.
Her breath gave a hiccup, threatening to silence her for good. Her jowls parted again, howling from the pain in her soul. It had saved her once after a beating at her stepfather's hands, so near death then and she had been saved by the strange wolf. Perhaps this was how she would meet her true father again. She wished for her friends. Hestia. She wished for the stranger wolf that she had met once before. Anyone. She was afraid to die alone like this, with no one beside her, but she could hardly breathe. Blood rolled in a drip down her muzzle, a fresh wave of pain following it as she tried to move.
A last, desperate howl rose from her lips. Someone had to hear her lying in the wet dirt. She couldn't believe that she would suffer to death in here, she had to live one more day. She had promised herself a tomorrow.
