Angel and Gabriel had been gone for what seemed like days. Mere hours had become a longer period of time for the young girl who was often impatient when waiting for her parents to return from their expeditions. Of course they hadn’t gone out in a while which was evident from the scarce amounts of food scattered around the floor. The young shifter was seated in the corner of a small room in what appeared to have once been a makeshift house. There were only two bare rooms, constructed poorly from whatever had been lying around at one point in time. She assumed it had once been a safe house for another shifter group before the prison claimed their lives. A large dog was curled up at the girl’s feet, his eyes glued to the one entry point of the room. Absentmindedly she stroked his head, a sigh falling from her lips. “I want to go outside Bear,” she murmured as she began to rise. The dog simply rose with her, following alongside her as she walked out of the room. He glanced upwards almost in warning but she shook her head. “I’ll be just outside. That way I can see when Angel and Gabriel come back home.” The forest seemed to stretch out for miles and it reminded Phoenix somewhat of the little cottage in the woods they had once stayed in. She had been younger than and had known less of the world. Now she knew just how cruel it could be. It was cool outside and Nix zipped her jacket up to ward off the shivers. Snow had stopped falling but there was sufficient coverage on the ground for her plans. “C’mon Bear! We gotta build a snowman to protect us,” she called out, running further away from the house. She dropped to her knees in a clear spot just before the line of trees. The house had been built in a clearing that suited her purposes well enough. She assumed her parents had chosen the location because the house was difficult to see from far away. They had to hide from everyone. That’s what they constantly told her. Phoenix wasn’t sure who ‘everyone’ was but they sounded scary. Then again, ‘everyone’ could also encapsulate her siblings. No, she thought. They were probably dead. The Keepers weren’t kind. It was best just to keep moving along with Angel and Gabriel and Bear. They were safe. Just after she had rolled the body, Bear stood up and barked out towards the line of trees. Three short barks and then he stopped and sat down, his tail wagging. “You’re back!” Phoenix cried out, running to embrace Gabriel. He lifted her up and swung her around, Bear keeping at a distance to watch all three of them carefully. “Come now Nixie, back into the house. It’s not safe out here, even with bear,” Angel chastised, shaking her head and grabbing Phoenix by the hand to lead her along. Bear trotted behind them his eyes glued to his young charge, giggling beside her parents as they chatted happily. Just as Gabriel swung the door open however, Bear whipped around, ears erect and growling at the trees. The three shifters turned around, Angel pushing Phoenix behind her. “Get back inside and close the door.” But Phoenix stood where she was, peering out to see who was hiding in the trees. What had Bear heard that none of them could? “What’s going on? Who's there?” Came the faint voice behind the taller figure. It cracked as she felt her heart pound. Perhaps it was ‘everyone’ come to hurt them. OOC | mo money I did the thing coz I was bored... Take your time with a reply though, I don't mind.
