Royale sat on the sill of the window of the third floor, knees curled underneath her chin, arms wrapped around them. Blue eyes stared blankly at the ugly walls, icy depths void of everything. Inside her mind waged a familiar war, something so dear and close to her. The ever lasting debate on whether or not she was in the mood to stay alive, or not. Perhaps, she could go on some sort of kamikaze mission raid on the Carna. No one would think anything of it, would they? They'd just hear of some girl no one really knows dying at the hands of the bloody Carna.
She pushed the thoughts away, grimacing at the darkness of her own thoughts.
Ro was secluded. Ever since she had reached the Menagerie, she had felt herself slowly changing. Every day brought more pain, and the more pain she took the stronger her silence grew. Now she had hardly attended any group hunts. She remained solitary, bringing back a few bits of food now and then. For the most part she just sat in her solacing stillness, thinking. Planning. Exactly what she was planning depended wholly upon the day, and what her fragile mind dared to tackle.
Caramel hair flitted in front of her face as a quick, dry breeze blew intolerable heat into the train. She sighed, walking to the gaping hole in the window that would never be fixed. These days, everything seemed to be falling apart. Her cold eyes seemed to spark with life for a moment, but slowly faded as she glared out the dusty windowpane. The span of destruction bothered her. As far as she could see, an endless stretch of earth and sky. And still, there was no way out. They could try as hard as they might, but when they reached the wall that kept them inside this prison, all would end. There was no escape.

Laurent::
Dark orange eyes stared up at the sky as Laurent walked, enjoying the day. He liked to look on the brighter side of things. Sure, it was blistering hot outside, but at least he had sunshine. Yeah, they were trapped in this horrid box, but he was alive and healthy enough. At the moment, he was scouting around the Fulsi and Fallen Ring border, eagerly fulfilling his duty. Unlike some other ring members, Laurent was perfectly content being a scout, and had no ambitions of moving up in rank. No one was dependent on him, and he got to walk around his beloved territory all day. Yes, he was definitely an optimistic one.
The only part he really disliked about his job as scout was having to confront intruders. Laurent wasn't really much of a fighter. He'd much rather talk things out like civilized people, rather than a bunch of animals. Still, he could see that many around here were turning to their animalistic sides as the days and months wore on. Laurent wasn't naive though, and knew that there would be times that he would have to fight, and he did. Being a mongoose, he was swift and cunning, and used that to his advantage. Being so small though, it was timed like these, just patrolling around, that he preferred to be human.
The world took it‘s natural shape before her eyes as she shifted back into a sound state of mind - something that was undeniably fragile to those who knew her too well. Really, no one knew her well at all. She wasn’t really sure she knew herself completely, and thus she did not trust herself. Life was a fragile thing, she knew, and her life was teetering on the edge of a cliff, or walking out onto a n old rope bridge with a torch in your hands. She felt herself drifting further away from the cruel reality of the Menagerie, and she let it come.
Something ripped Royale from her oncoming trance-like state, the indisputable smear of human life strolling down the street, three floors below her. Her eyesight wasn’t superb, but there was no doubt that it was a human, a male no less. She smirked slightly to herself, wondering if some interaction would do her some good. Even if he was from another Ring, she could care less. In this time of war, everyone seemed her enemy. No one was lighthearted and carefree - not that they had ever really been all that joyous in a situation such as theirs - she used to rely on those few bright souls to keep her strong.
She drifted slowly from the window, though seeing that the stranger was quickly disappearing, she hurried down the three flights of stairs, ignoring the tempting scuttle of rats and the heavier step of foot steps that creaked in some other room. She knew that other people came here, but scarcely traveled to the third floor for the pure reason that it was startlingly unsafe. The Breathelight Inn was decaying increasingly fast in this summer heat. Royale ignored it all, light steps seeming incredibly loud as she thundered down the stairs, but she slowed her pace as she stepped out the double doors, smiling excitedly in spite of herself.
Despite all prior self-musings of preferring the solace of solitude, she intended to make the best of this encounter. Her appearance was quite clean for the Menagerie, especially in these times. Jeans were a bit frayed, but still managed to be stylish, and her tight clinging shirt accented her slim curves. She maneuvered her way around the hotel so she would end up in front of the guy - she hated shouting out to people. Seemed so…ew.
She popped around the corner seeming as innocent as can be, and nearly ran smack dab into the guy, but she quickly side stepped and righted herself, smiling slightly embarrassed at him. “Hi,” she said in an innocent tone, as if she hadn’t planned the run in at all. “I’m Royale.”

Laurent::
Laurent had been stuck in his own thoughts at the time, and nearly jumped when a girl popped out in front of him. "O-oh," He gasped, a bit flustered. The fulsi scout took a moment to steady himself again, running a hand through his long, light brown hair, hoping he was at least presentable.
"My name is Laurent," He introduced himself, his voice light, and twinged with a soft French accent. The boy even held out a hand to Royale, the fact that she was from another ring not really a problem for him. After all, she had been kind enough when introducing herself. "A pleasure to meet you," Laurent added, a soft smile coming over his face.
Ah, his smile. Laurent loved to smile, mostly because it seemed to take people's attention off of the long scar that ran across his face horizontally. He was always worried about it, scared that it might scare away others. The Carna usually weren't put off by it, but he had frightened a couple Fallen, and even other Fulsi in his time here. "What, may I ask, brings you here today?" He asked softly, deep orange eyes lifting from Royale's hand to meet her gaze.
Ro didn't seem to notice the scar at first, her gaze lingering on his soft smile, drifting slowly to the outstretched hand. What was wrong with this guy? Didn't he now that he could get his hand bitten off? His smile seemed contagious, and as she reached out to grasp his slender hand in her own smaller one, she felt her lips lifting into a half-hearted smile. Full lips soon curved into a full fledged grin showing relatively white teeth, comfortably straight.
His words were so gentle, so alarmingly nonthreatening. And she liked his voice, with that soft hint of French. It was a lot better than her own voice, soft and gentle though it was, but it held the strong marks of the street, full fledged with horrid pronunciation skills and the lazy half-formation of words.
As she glanced up at his face again, she noticed the scar. Her smiled did not falter, but she released his hand as he spoke his next words. She narrowed her eyes slightly, head tipped an iota to the side as she thought. "I needed some time away from the Ring," Yes, brillaint move Ro. Bring up the Rings, of all things! "You?"

Laurent::
Laurent kept his soft smile, even as Royale released his hand. He didn't mind of course. Not many people in the Menagerie were as cuddly and sweet as Laurent was. Often people thought that Laurent was simply putting up a front to get their guard down, and even told him to his face. He didn't let it bother him though, since others were wise to be wary of people here. Lately, everyone seemed to be turning on each other.
"Well, I'm actually out scouting for my ring," He replied gently, not letting the topic get him flustered. No, he wouldn't ever initiate a fight over a simple discussion. "I find it's safe to assume you're not of the Fulsi ring, yes?" Laurent asked. "Or I would have seen you around before."
Ro froze at this question, her eyes widening slightly for the slightest moment. But she quickly composed herself and smiled gently, simply nodding. "I'm from the Fallen." She didn't know why she said that, really, so blatantly. She didn't want to fight after all, and telling a Fulsi Scout that you were of the FallenRing, the betrayers, wasn't the brightest idea for not starting a fight. But Laurent made her feel as if she had to tell the truth - no, she just wanted to. Her whole life had been lies, really, and she was tired of putting up a front for anybody.
But she kept up the coldness that, despite her warm smile, still lingered in her soft face. It was undeniable, that icy stare that calculated with a mechanical air. Her smile still lingered, but the rest of her face had smoothed back into a mask of calm, almost stale seriousness. "Look Laurent, I don't wanna a fight. It doesn't seem like you do, either. But these days I don't trust any body, let alone some guy who acts all nice 'n whatnot." She paused, brushing a strand of caramel blond hair from her face. "Ya get me?"

Laurent::
Laurent frowned slightly at her words, though he attempted to hide it as best he could. "O-oh, yes," He nodded, lifting a hand to brush his own long hair out of his face. "I understand. I get it a lot, really," Laurent shrugged, staring off as he seemed to recall the many times that others in The Menagerie had reacted negatively to his kind demeanor. "Oh well. I suppose it's wise for you to keep on your game, hmm?" He asked with a smile.
In the trees above him, a small sparrow chirped. Laurent immediately glanced upwards, recognizing the 'voice'. Before he knew it, the bird was chirping orders at him. "Laurent! Prove yourself a true Fulsi member and capture that girl!" Laurent shook his head slowly, afraid for far too long that his 'testing day' would come. "B-but I don't want to be promot--" He attempted to argue, but was cut off by the tiny bird once more. "Would you betray your ring?" It snapped, before fluttering away.
Laurent turned slowly towards Royale, a grimace etched onto his face. "..I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to ask you to come with me," He told her quietly, holding out a hand. Ah, Laurent, still ever so polite. Maybe it wasn't as good a feature as one would think..
Royale's eyes widened as the bird gave it's orders, the little voice curt and threatening even from a creature so small. Her eyes narrowed threateningly at it's terse words, searing blue eyes cutting into Laurent's own vivid green ones; she ignored the hand held out to her and simply looked him straight in the face, her once soft features hardened, sharp and angry. She took a step back, hair falling into those suddenly vicious eyes, her demeanor turning wild and unabashedly revealing the face of a true predator. "If you wanna take me, Fulsi, you gotta fight me."
Ro didn't have the look of a cornered animal in the slightest, in fact she looked as if she were simply a beast protecting it's prey - her full lips pulled down into a frown, slim brows furrowed in what seemed to be furious contemplation - to see such a human beauty as her own transform into this harsh look of an unrestrained killer, one who's morals do not interfere with the wild abandon at which it kills! She stood poised, her knees slightly bent, back and head prominently erect, hands held flexed at her side as she watched him carefully, waiting. She held herself as a true fighter, experienced and hardened by the years.
Unsure of his shifting form she would wait for him to make any sign of a first move. She would save her ability to the last, depending on his - she held off on that as long as she could, though she often used it as an advantage on smaller opponents who she felt strongly against; mostly the Carna. 'C'mon, Fulsi, fight.'

Laurent::
Laurent flinched visibly, as he watched the girl in front of him change so drastically, without having to really do much. Still, being a sort of 'prey item' to most of the people here, he couldn't help but to be afraid. Although Laurent didn't know Royale's shifting ability, he was already sure it was nothing to mess with.
He took a deep breath though, pushing the fear out of his brown, almost rusty-orange eyes. How could he ever go back to his ring if he ran away like a coward? He couldn't. Laurent quickly shifted, and it almost looked like he had disappeared into thin air. On the ground was the light-brown mongoose, which scurried surprisingly fast, right underneath Royale. Once behind her, he shifted back into human form, wrapping his arms around her. Surprisingly, he made sure not to hurt her, since she had made no violent move against him..yet.
"Please, Mademoiselle, I don't wish to hurt you...And I would rather prefer to leave uninjured as well," Laurent added, chuckling softly into her ear. Although he seemed relaxed, every muscle in his slight body was tense, still of course, worried about Royale's form, and how many ways it could possibly tear him to shreds.
She let out a gasp of surprise as Laurent shrunk down to such a small size and slipped behind her, wrapping surprisingly strong arms around her. She froze as he whispered lightly in her ear, having the audacity to laugh. Oh, yeah. She took it wrong, of course, and the genial manner of his words were completely lost. In some other universe she would've found his accent charming, his courtesan mannerisms attractive. But not here, not now.
She growled audibly at his words, still not moving an inch. The closeness didn't bother her much, she was used to it - it was the fact that he took caution not to cause her harm. He seemed to hold her as lightly as he could without enabling her to get free. "Bastard," she spat unreasonably, taking his kindness the wrong way, and thinking of nothing other to say than cursing him out. Hey, it was the way of the streets, wasn't it? And that's who she was. She might as well have been a piece of trash on the street for all she knew.
Eyes narrowing she growled again, wrestling with him to break free. She was surprised as she shook his grip loose, and she quickly shoved herself away from his grasp. As slowly she shifted, small, thin bones growing in size and density, snapping and regrowing as she transformed. Caramel hair turned an alabaster white as slowly it spread over the entirety of her. "You're gonna be sorry you ever met me, Fulsi." She growled through lips that pulled back to reveal the enormous fangs of a lioness, in full flesh and bone, pure white fur adorning the finely toned body of the big feline.
Ro smiled in a feline way, whiskered lips pulling back to show the flashing ivories that matched the color of her wiry coat. She advanced slowly, vivid blue eyes locking onto him and a deep fire igniting in their cold depths. She flexed her claws once, twice, then dashed toward him, snarling, and leaped.

Laurent::
Ooohh, no. She had slipped out of his grasp. Deep orange eyes watched in horror as Royale shifted into her form- a lioness. Perfect. He'd had to have his 'test' of loyalty now? With him, a mongoose, faced with a lioness? Didn't they eat little guys like him? For a moment, Laurent was sure that the Fulsi were just trying to get rid of him now.
He was snapped away from his thoughts, as the snowy lioness leaped at him. Poor Laurent let out a terrified scream, and quickly shifted, so Royale wouldn't barrel right into him. Where could he be safe? Where could she ever have trouble reaching him? Laurent gulped, as one spot came to mind. Sure, it wasn't safe, but her jaws and claws wouldn't reach him there. The little mongoose sprang forward after her, grabbing onto her pure white tail. He scurried up her back, and dug his tiny claws into the back of her neck, just to hold on.
Still, even with his little illusion of safety, Laurent couldn't help but shake as he clung to the white fur for dear life. He knew that she would probably kill him otherwise. Why couldn't he ever just make some friends, without having to be thrown into some crazy death-match?
Royale’s roar blocked out his scream, and wasn’t taken by surprise when he disappeared behind her, using his small stealth and quick little paws to maneuver safely close by, yet still a bit out of her range of mobility. It was one thing she lacked as a lioness, a bulky sort of creature who relied more upon sheer strength than agility when hunting. Still, she thought snidely, a mongoose wouldn’t he hard to kill at all. She shocked herself with the realization. Did she really wanna kill this guy?
What took her by surprise was that he had the brilliant audacity to crawl on her back! She let out a grunt as the claws dug into her flesh, determined not to show signs of pain - it could have been considerably worse, but it still stung as thick as her hide was. She growled, deciding to have a little fun before she would squash him on the ground beneath her. Jaws parted to release another vicious roar as she curled her spine upward, bucking violently, almost like a bronco. She was laughing now, visualizing the sight of a mongoose trying to tame a lioness. It was strange to see a lioness laughing because it sounded exactly like a human - it was strange, most of the other shifters couldn’t laugh normally when in animal form.
She kicked around in a circle, making sure she twisted this way and that to make sure he had a hard time gripping, but still the little creep clung tightly. Ugh. Now she was pissed.

Laurent::
Laurent let out little, pitiful squeaks of terror, as the lioness bucked this way and that underneath him. "Y-you're making this harder than it has to be!" He whined, finding her laughter rather frightening, since she seemed to be enjoying his fear. "I'm trying to be nice about this whole mess!" Laurent added, and he managed to make it through her whole fit of trying to get him off.
Alas, his little muscles couldn't take much more, and he fell off of the lioness's back anyways, shifting back into his human form as he hit the ground. The first thing on his mind was still to get away from the immediate danger of her teeth and claws, so Laurent hopped to his feet and ran, knowing that the rather angry Royale would be right behind him. A quick glance over his shoulder proved then to be his downfall, literally, as he tripped and tumbled through the dirt. Laurent was left a little stunned, lying on his back. "Oh, dear."
She found his words incredibly stupid. “You’re the one making it difficult, Fulsi! You could just let go!” Her words came out as a strangled growl as she felt his insubstantial weight lift off his back, then watched as he tumbled to the ground and shifted back. Silly humans, always thinking they can get away by running! The animal inside her spoke with a sultry voice as she dashed after him, claws scraping against the chopped up road that was half asphalt and half dirt.
As Laurent tripped and fell Ro let out a peal of laughter for the fact that it was hilarious! She’d only see a few guys so scared in her life, and Laurent had to be the funniest. Before he had seemed to be scrambling about, trying to cope with his fear. Ro felt almost sad for him, the poor thing, no matter the weakling that he was. She sighed, slowly down to a slow trot as she moved over to his unmoving side. He seemed in shock, almost. Ro stood right behind his head, looking down at his face with crystalline eyes that flashed with humor. “Hm,” she grunted, smiling down at him with the face of an animal, but she giggled almost uncontrollably at the situation. “You sure don’t know how to fight, Fulsi.” She had to admit, staring down into those soft green eyes, she felt a glimmer of attraction. He was cute. There, she said it.
Ro shook off the feeling with a soft growl, stepping back and giving him a few feet of space. “C’mon, gettup.” She spat, the humor gone. Oh, how swiftly she changed! A temptress such as she was as sure as a hurricane.

Laurent::
Laurent gulped, getting up as Royale requested. "I'm only trying to keep my place in the Fulsi Ring," He reminded her, holding up his fists as if they would help him any against a lioness. "What would I do without a home? Now. Please come with me?" He begged one last time.
Laurent took a few steps back, watching his footing this time. He didn't trip, which was good, but he was still faced with a lioness, with very few weapons in his arsenal. After all, the boy could only run from her for so long without having to try and hurt her. "I hate fighting, you know. I'm sure you can see why."
Poor Laurent. So, he sucked at fighting, as was too much of a gentleman to even try. Hmm, it seemed he wouldn't fare very well then in here, would he?
Her laugh this time was bitter and harsh, unsavory to the ears compared to the beautiful peals just moments previous; she glared at him with all the malcontent of an impoverished woman who wasn’t one to mess with. She snarled, growling at him with blatant anger. “Why should I give up my position in my home just to ensure yours? Tell me how that’s reasonable in any way imaginable. I won’t go with you, so don’t ask again. God! You’re stupid.” She glared at him, but inside she had to shrug off an inkling thought. Don’t change. She whispered, wishing she could tell him. But, no, her pride was too great.
Ro crouched low, bunching up her muscles; with a deafening roar she lunged, hoping to end this, and end it quickly. She didn’t know if she would kill him. She would decide that when she got him pinned. [/blockquote]

Laurent::
Laurent had thought that he had been making progress, but that harsh laugh of hers shatter all of his hope. No, she wasn't going to stop, was she? One of them was going to leave unhappy- or not at all. It was Royale or him, and Laurent was intent on keeping both his spot in the Fulsi, and his dignity.
The leap surprised him though, not expecting her to attack him again so soon. He had no time to plan, to run; Laurent barely had time to think. He simply tried to scramble backwards, but ended up falling once more in his panic.
Having to choice but to defend himself, reaching out for something, anything to hold Royale back away from him. His hand wrapped around a rather large, jagged piece of glass, likely from one of the Inn's shattered windows. He held it up to her, before fully realizing what it was. Once he had, Laurent was horrified, knowing exactly what was to come.
Royale knew she had the fight finished when he fell backwards, and as she fell upon him, vicious jaws parted and claws outstretched to rake into his body, she suddenly stopped. Her blue eyes were wide with shock as a choking sound came from her throat. She looked down, slowly, to see Laurent’s hand gripping the end of a piece of glass that had lodged deep into the right side of her chest. The pain came then, and she fell backward, the glass dagger still lodged deep in her chest. She tried to scream, but her throat was locked tight as her body tried despereately to cling to the form of the lioness, but she lost that battle quickly.
There she lay, Royale, blood pouring dangerously from the deep wound that left her laying on her back, coughing and choking violently as she struggled for air. The blood quickly spread across her tight shirt as she grappled clumsily with the glass shard to try to rip it out. “No, no, no, NO!” she screamed. The pain was unbearable! She writhed on the ground as she tried to yank it out, grunting in her struggle, hands slipping off the glass time and time again as she tried. Ro gave up, flipping over on her side and tried to pull herself away from Laurent managing to get to her hands and knees to crawl, trying to get herself out of danger. Her limbs weakened, and finally she collapsed onto her back, head lolling to the side as she slipped into unconsciousness.
The blood loss was substantial; one could assume this as they looked at the smears and puddles of blood that pooled near her limp body, trailing her path to show her pitiful attempts to fight the injury off. [/blockquote]

Laurent::
Laurent grimaced, watching as she desperately tried to pull herself away. How could he have done that to her? Sure, it had been an accident, but she was still lying on the ground, bleeding to death. He got up with a soft groan, wishing he could make the sight before him disappear. "I'm sorry," He whispered upon deaf ears, seeing as Royale had already fallen unconscious.
He moved forward quickly, gently scooping Royale up into his arms. "I'll make this right, I promise," Laurent whispered to her, as he hurried back towards Fulsi territory. He'd save her, and then find some way to make her forgive him. Otherwise, poor Laurent would never be able to live with himself.
Once back on his own turf, Laurent quickly got to work, raiding the Fulsi first-aid supplies, to stop the bleeding and remove the glass. It was a bit akward, considering he had to remove her shirt for the procedure, but he would never think of it in a wrong way. Laurent was focused on saving her life at the moment, remorse weighing down every move he made. He was only glad that she wasn't awake to maul him to death. "There we go," He mumbled, before pausing. Did he want to..? Laurent bit his lip softly in thought, before finally leaning over and pressing a kiss to Royale's cheek.
