How do you choose...
...Between feeling Pain,
Or Nothing at all?
The Mana Springs Mall seemed an eerie place on this particularly overcast day. A figure made its way through the wide open walkway, glancing up through the mall’s small section of glass ceiling. Most of the panels were broken from old age, and as Redd stared up at the clouds, he could feel a few drops of rain fall onto his lightly tanned face. Not exactly wanting to be rained on, he continued on his way, the broken glass that littered the floor crunching under his feet.
Redd, new to the Fulsi, seemed to be just wandering aimlessly, exploring the territory as he found it. He sighed, imagining that this place must have been a cheerful gathering spot at one point or another. It was not too far off to imagine items stocking warmly lit stores, people laughing as they shopped, and crowds filling the halls…Redd shuddered at the thought. However cheery it may have been, Redd never would have come to such a crowded place of his own free will.
And that was the problem, why he now ventured off on his own, instead of staying with the group. Try as he might, he couldn’t diminish his fear of people, for the fact that they actually caused him physical pain with just the slightest touch. Frowning a bit, Redd took a seat on the edge of a fountain, located in the middle of the mall. It wasn’t the prettiest fountain, its water long dried up, leaving only it’s cracked cement frame.
As he sat there, he ran a hand through his long, pin-straight reddish-brown hair, which fell to just below his shoulders. It was his namesake, but it also reminded him of a particular brother of his, who even as a child, was obsessed with his hair. Redd quickly removed his hand from his head, not wanting to bring up memories of his childhood in the orphanage. The images of his brothers only reminded him of what he had lost, and for no good reason at that. It was just his luck, he supposed, to be one of those kids who were never adopted, while he watched his older brother taken away by a loving family. Orange-brown eyes fell to the floor in front of him, and Redd wished more than anything that he could go back to those times, when things were simple and he had his brothers there with him.
Now he just felt so…Alone.
