f e n fall into your sunshine The docks were silent at this hour - save for the occasional rustle of rats no doubt once again finding their way into their food stores. Fen held in a snort of amusement - they could keep the Fulsi out, but not the rats. Not that there seemed to be much different between the two, according to most Carna. The girl couldn't wrap her mind around how biased and hateful these people could be. Just ridiculous. She stood just outside the entrance to Sewertown - a place she'd grown to despise instead of call home. The confining tunnel seemed a death sentence to her, the toll of some far off bell that rang her death would soon come. Call it claustrophobia if you may, she called it horrible.
Fen took a few deep breaths, staring out at the dark, cloudy waters of the bay, wondering if she should really go through with this. Images of her sister, so dark and changed...Fen shook the thoughts away with a slight frown, strangely colored eyes narrowing in determination. She would go through with it - most assuredly. She cast a last look behind her, ensuring that no one was following, and took off at a light jog through the rows and rows of warehouses, weaving in and out alleyways. When she had gotten far enough along - about a five minute jog - she stopped behind a pile of empty crates and stripped off her clothes. When she'd first gotten into this place and discovered her new ability, this part had always made her uneasy and embarrassed. Now it seemed second nature - she was able to blend almost seamlessly into her environment thanks to the cuttlefish DNA mutations. But her clothes, frankly, didn't.
After neatly folding and stuffing her clothes into an empty crate, she took off at a slow quick jog, her small body blending in with the world about her - to the untrained eye, there would be a ripple of movement, a slight bend in the pattern of that wall...but for the most part she was invisible, especially with night on her side - but the sun would soon be up. She hurried through the Carna, slinking along the Wall (a mostly un-patrolled area, to keep away from the eyes of the public) careful not to be caught by her 'comrades'. She had no reason to be outside of Sewertown at this time of night. The midnight patrol had returned early, and the Dawn Patrol would now be preparing to head out any minute.
But her bare feet worked silent and quick and she soon stood panting just feet from the Fulsi border, her body laced with a thin layer of sweat that left her chilled with the autumn air. She left the wall and hesitantly scouted forward, though she knew this place fairly well from her plans. It was a pretty wide stretch of asphault and scant buildings around here, with a few plants growing through the cracks. She turned, her back to the Carna, and faced the impressive sight of the Fulsi's city, craning her neck back to take in the high towers. But here there was only a few warehouses on each side and the remnants of a fallen chain-link fence cut painstakingly into several pieces and dragged off to who knows where.
Sighing softly, Fen scanned the area and finding it satisfactorily barren, she headed over to the inconspicuous looking dumpster, bolted to the ground - otherwise it would've been taken apart and used as some sort of scrap metal - and reached behind it, pulling loose a brick from the wall behind it. She had her back turned on the Fulsi border as she stood up and placed the items she'd retrieved on the dumpster lid - a sports bra and a pair of jean shorts. She bent down again to rummage for the last item, growling softly when she couldn't get a grip on it. Nothing could be easy in this place, could it?

It felt good to be up and about again. After almost two months of being restricted to the Fulsi’s hospital wing, Redd was finally cleared to go back to his hunting duties. The raid had certainly done an extensive amount of damage, though Redd had only heard about it, and hadn’t even seen the devastated area yet. Part of him wasn’t quite sure if he was ready to handle it, considering that it had almost been the death of him. Taking a deep breath, Redd continued walking, not eager to recall the experience; the fight with the Carna, smoke and flames billowing around them…the building crumbling around him. The only reason he was even alive was because Casey had found him and dug him out of the rubble by some sort of miracle. No matter what that boy had done, or whatever was going on between him and Redd’s brother Damian, the hunter knew that he owed Casey his life. Needless to say, his extensive internal damage had left him crippled, and now he was finally ready to put his muscles back into action.
Redd lifted a shaky hand to brush strands of long, coppery hair out of his face. His other hand was wrapped solidly around a long staff made of metal, with little gears and piping affixed here and there. To a stranger, it looked like some fancy walking stick, but to someone who had seen it before, they would recognize the strange rounded, silver piece, that at Redd’s will, flicked out to reveal the razor-sharp blade of a scythe that locked into place. The hunter had to admit that he was proud of his handy new weapon, even more so since he’d built it himself – The hospital wing wasn’t the most exciting place in the world, and tinkering with inventions was what Redd considered a good ol’ time. With plenty of time to kill, he’d decided to be productive instead of moping around and giving the medics trouble.
There was nothing to do now but to get back into hunting shape, so Redd was out for a walk around the borders, but like always, also keeping an eye out for any useful scraps. He couldn’t let a single useable screw or bolt go to waste in this place, not when a tiny missing part like that could reduce all his work to shambles. As he meandered forward, leaning some of his weight on his new scythe, a ripple in the background caught his eye. Redd jumped slightly, before freezing in his tracks. What was that? Perhaps it was just a trick of the eye, some sort of weird illusion cast by the rising sun. He moved to brush it off, when something else drew his attention instead— a dumpster! The hunter didn’t usually come this way, so the discovery of a giant piece of metal made his entire stay in the hospital worth it.
“How could I have missed this?!” The man gasped, like a little kid on Christmas morning. He broke into a sprint, feeling his muscles ache from the new effort, long since used to just lying around and shuffling about the medical wing. Still, the dumpster was an amazing find, and he could only speculate on what sort of magnificent little knick-knacks might still be inside. Any little thing, usually seen as garbage to others would seem a treasure to Redd, who could make something out of almost nothing. “I wonder what’s in…”
As he reached the side of the dumpster, he ran into something that kept him from moving forward. “What the?” He stared, reddish-brown eyes wide and confused, at the empty space in front of him, wondering if he’d already over-exerted himself and was perhaps hallucinating. “…That’s not right,” Redd mumbled, reaching out a hand warily. There was, in fact, something there! Unless what he was feeling was all in his head. “I think I’ve lost it,” He whispered to himself, running his hand along the smooth, surprisingly warm surface of…nothing?
Perhaps it was time to go back to the Medics.
Ooc: D< STOP COPPIN A FEEL, REDD! LOL. XD

f e n fall into your sunshine Fen bit back a grumble, trying to make as little noise as possible lest she be caught this close to the border, and in this predicament no less! After a few moments of struggling with the godforsaken shortness of her arms she finally latched onto what she'd been looking for - her can of mace. A handy tool that came in handy with the big buff dudes she'd met up with in some border scuffles, guys she was certainly no match for. Just as her fingers wrapped around the blessed item, she was pitched forward as something stumbled into her from behind. Fen cringed and stifled a scream, instantly freezing in place with her eyes squeezed shut, hoping to god whoever had run into her would leave. She heard breathing, hesitant - as if the person was confused. "What the..." At the words, Fen's heart shattered. It was a man - crap. Crap.
Holding perfectly still she hoped he would figure he'd just tripped on a stick or something, but as the curious, confused hands traced palm down along her back, nearing dangerously close to her hindquarters, Fen couldn't hold still anymore. "Hey!" she barked, whipping around in a brilliant flash of colors - reds and yelllows and oranges that moved and flitted across her skin, a defense mechanism to throw him off - and aiming for his eyes. She squeeze the mace can as if she would pull the trigger of a gun, shut her eyes and let it rip, the soft tsssssh! of the mace followed by what would be the soon pained scream of whatever Fulsi had run into her. Fen grabbed her clothes and darted behind the dumpster, fuming at the fact that she hadn't heard the man's approach sooner, before he was basically on top of her! Ugh! She blushed at the thought of a man touching her like that, a stranger!, epseically when she was so...clothes...less. She felt like throwing up - so thoroughly disappointed and frustrated with herself as she roughly put on her clothes, the black sports bar/halter top that now seemed all too exposing and her jean shorts.
She held the mace aloft, aiming high, and crept out from behind the dumpster to approach the Fulsi man, bare feet creeping along the cement quietly. The man's cries had died down and as she approached him, she felt kinda bad - after all, he hadn't really known she was there...right? Still she felt like she'd been exposed and that he'd seen everything, but more than likely all he saw was blinding colors and then pepper spray. Fen inched closer, teal and purple eyes wide, chest heaving with suspense, her skin flickering the remnants of yellow, gold and orange as she assessed whether or not he was a threat. "You there!" She called, still a few feet away. "Who are you? And why were you touching me!" Her voice was accusing, but there was still an unsure softness to it. "Are you a Fulsi?"

A sudden shout of ‘Hey!’ startled him, but not as much as the blinding flash of colors that followed, which seemed to have appeared out of thin air. Before Redd could get a better look, his eyes were on fire. Not literally, no, but some sort of liquid had been sprayed in his face unexpectedly, and Redd immediately dropped his scythe, which fell to the ground with a clang. “AHH, OH MY GOD!” He roared, voice hoarse with the force of his screams. Of course. Of course he’d be attacked by some sort of…sick, twisted rainbow on his first day out of the hospital.
“My eyes! Oh god, spicy eyesss!” Redd cried, falling to his knees and holding his face in his hands. No matter how hard he rubbed at his eyes, they only burned that much more. Even his tears couldn’t wash out the powerful liquid, and for a moment he forgot that someone else might be there; Pepper spray didn’t just shoot itself out of a can. The voice sounded again, this time asking who he was and why he’d touched them. “What?!” He screamed, wondering how his attacker could have the audacity to ask him anything, especially when they didn’t exist! “I didn’t touch nothin’! Well, I did, but there was…nothing there,” he trailed off, wondering how crazy he sounded. Then again, if he was talking to no one, he was definitely insane, but at least no one would be around to witness it.
Redd took in a deep breath and attempted to look up at the source of the voice, carefully picking strands of his long, coppery hair out of his face. He squinted against the light, which only made the burning in his reddened eyes flare up again, just long enough to see the form of a woman standing there. “You- you’re not invisible!” He gasped, clenching his eyes shut again in a futile attempt to quell the pain. “Yeah, I’m a Fulsi, but why the hell did you mace me?!”
Redd reached out for his scythe, thinking he needed some protection from his attacker, but found that his hand groped blindly at the gravelly asphalt, no scythe to be found. “Dammit, girl! I can’t even open them!” He complained angrily, unusual of Redd, who was generally happy and affable, even to people not of his Ring. “What if I’m blind now?” He asked, dreading the idea of having to return to the medical wing, or even worse, never being able to create again!

f e n fall into your sunshine Fen watched the man writhing on his knees and wiping at his eyes, stepping back and biting her lip. She felt kinda bad - but this guy’d had his hands on her - she flashed a delicate pink color at the thought, thoroughly embarrassed. She watched the red-haired man and barely stifled a laugh at his ‘spicy eyes’ comment, and she warily waited for his cries to quiet down. With a gulp she prayed no one would hear him - either Fulsi or Carna. “I didn’t touch nothin’! Well, I did, but there was…nothing there,” “Well! I felt your hands on my...well, that’s beside the point-" She huffed, kicking his stick-thing further away from him. She observed it curiously, though he drew her attention again and she rounded on him, regarding the temporarily blinded Fulsi with a popped hip and a pouting lip.
“Yeah, I’m a Fulsi, but why the hell did you mace me?!”
“You scared the hell out of me, that’s why! I mean, really, why are you out here dumpster diving at this hour anyway?” She grumbled, not caring to think on why she was out here. “Dammit, girl! I can’t even open them!” “Serves you right for creeping up on me like that! And for...ugh! I don’t even want to think about it.” As he scrambled around, probably searching for the weapon she’d kicked away, her grip tightened on her can of mace. She hadn’t realized it had loosened. Fen grunted softly in warning to him; she would mace him if he even moved a finger in her direction.
“What if I’m blind now?” At this she froze, her muscles stiffening, jaw clamping down, eyes squeezed shut as she tried to contain the sudden onrush of anger. Her fingertip rested on the nozzle and she was sorely tempted to mace him again - but she remembered her sister. This was for her. Seija. “What’s so wrong with being blind, hm?” She growled indignantly, stalking over to him and offering him a hand up. Her sister was blind - always had been, and she hated when people talked about it, or even referenced it in conversation. Taking it that he hadn’t seen her hand she felt a satisfied smirk rise to her face - she usually didn’t like inflicting harm but there was some sense of satisfaction at defending herself. Or getting just rewards for being felt up like that, even if he hadn’t meant to.
Wait, wait. She wasn't thinking clearly - stupid nerves. “I’m offering you a hand up, Fulsi.” She cleared her throat, suddenly embarrassed. “I ah...wasn’t thinking. You scared me like I said...my...I’m not thinking clearly. Too early ‘n all that.” Her confidence seemed suddenly to vanish, and she bit her lip again. With a determined huff she dragged him into a standing position which was rather difficult to do, seeing as he towered over her by a foot or so. Damnit, why the hell were all these men so tall? She peered into his red, tearing eyes and tried a smile. “I’m Fen,” The short girl paused, reaching up to cup his face in her small, thin hands. “Hold still,” she murmured and let her teal and purple eyes drift closed, concentrating. Dizziness washed over her and she felt her knees buckle as she let her energy flow into him. She fell against him, catching herself on his broad shoulders with a soft gasp. “Darn healing,” She croaked as she pushed lightly off him, coming to a swaying standstill. “Any better?”

Redd whimpered pathetically to himself as the intense burning pain refused to go away. No matter how many tears he shed, they couldn’t wash the chemical from his eyes. His attacker only yelled at him, blaming Redd for getting himself maced. He could understand, he supposed, if he’d actually been able to see her, but he was sure that nothing had been there! “I was just looking for some scraps of steel for my windmill!” Redd whined, rubbing frantically at his eyes, which only made it worse.
The hunter wondered for a moment how much the other Fulsi would mock him if they were around to see this— Damian would definitely laugh, he knew that. His jerk of a brother had been an even bigger jerk ever since Casey left him; Redd couldn’t blame the kid after what Damian told him, but some sort of lingering protectiveness over his brother made him want to take Damian’s side at the same time.
For now though, he had bigger problems, namely the fact that he was still blinded by pepper spray.
‘What’s so wrong with being blind, hm?’ The female voice questioned him, and he could only spit back at her angrily, “Well, maybe I’m kinda used to seeing things?!” Redd growled, before reining in his temper again. Strange, he wasn’t usually so prickly, but this girl seemed to bring out the worst in him.
“Sorry, I just…I’m just scared, okay?” He explained, putting his ego aside. For a man in his family, Redd actually had a pretty small ego; it was microscopic when compared to Damian’s. Being the Fulsi Beta couldn’t help with that at all, he imagined. It only inflated his gigantic ego even more. But Redd himself was pretty humble, and only took pride in his inventions.
‘I’m offering you a hand up, Fulsi.’ “O-oh, thanks,” Redd added, swatting sightlessly at the air until his hand found her’s. She pulled him up with a little bit of difficulty, but at least he was on his feet again. He flinched visibly as her tiny hands were suddenly holding his face, and he wondered for a moment whether to be afraid of another attack. But the gentleness in her touch told Redd that he could trust her, and he merely nodded softly as she introduced herself. “Nice to meet you, Fen, I guess... I’m Redd,” he answered.
Redd felt his skin begin to tingle where Fen touched him, and the burning in his eyes slowly started to fade away. Sweet relief washed over him, and he opened his orange-brown eyes just in time to catch Fen in his muscular arms as she fell. “Whoa, careful!” he gasped, pulling her close and tight to his body to hold her steady. “Much better,” He answered, holding back a frown as she pushed herself away from him.
“Thanks,” Redd added, glad that contact with other people didn’t bring him excruciating pain anymore. He’d never felt anything like that, her soft hands on his face, and Redd realized how much he’d always wanted something like that. In the past he was forced into loneliness, too afraid of the agony to let anyone get close. After the raid, the pain had left. Perhaps when Casey healed him, he’d fixed more than just his injuries. Redd wasn’t sure how it had happened, but he was definitely liking how things were turning out.
“So, Fen,” He began, liking the sound of the new name on his tongue. Redd’s demeanor was definitely much more pleasant when his eyes weren’t being burned out of his skull. “What brings you to Fulsi territory anyways?”

f e n fall into your sunshine “Nice to meet you, Fen, I guess... I’m Redd,” As she stepped away from him, Fen folded her arms across her chest, eyeing him with a lingering suspicion. “Yeah, well pleasure’s all yours.” She sighed, rolling her eyes. “I mean, yeah. Nice to meet you too, I guess, though I usually like to go on at least one date before . . . ” She sighed, running a hand through her unruly black-brown hair, fingers snagging on a few knots. Another sigh and she picked out the knot, thin, nimble fingers quickly tucking her hair behind her and working it into a braid. She pulled a thin piece of leather from her pocket and tied the end, tossing the loosely hanging braid over her shoulder.
She was searching for anything to keep from answering his question, and her eyes glinted with a spark of hope as she thought of what he’d said just a few minutes ago - something about a windmill. “You’re building a windmill? From scrap?” She whistled, hands on her hips. “I’m impressed, Redd, was it? Us Carna tend to think the Fulsi are a bunch guys with their heads up their as- well. But y’know, I always thought different.” She paused, ambling to pick up his odd looking staff. She handed it to him as another sign of friendship, or peace, whatever, letting out a surprised squeak when a sharp blade snapped open as her finger triggered what must’ve been a latch of sorts. She nearly dropped the thing in fright, but after studying it for a few minutes she eyed him curiously. “You made this?”
Pausing as he talked, she thought on the windmill again. If the Fulsi had a windmill, they might have more power than just flickering lanterns. Maybe. She paused, plump lips pulling into a slight frown as the weight of her plan descended on her again, her nerves getting the best of her. Be strong, be strongg. She cast him a sidelong glance, biting her lip, as he talked. She suddenly tossed the scythe at him and began backing away slowly, towards the Carna. “Maybe I should be...going...” She hesitated, images of her sister flashing through her mind, casting her into a shadow of doubt. She had to do this - had to. There was no other choice - and no room for error.
She’d already turned her back on Redd and was about a yard away before she turned slowly round and after a moment of obvious internal conflict, came slowly back. The angry confidence was replaced by a meager semblance of seriousness as she gazed into his orange eyes, eyebrows knit together as she read his face. “Can I trust you?” She paused, shaking her head to clear her thoughts - and the air. “I’m a little nervous,” Fen breathed deeply, gathering her courage. “I have a proposition for your Alpha.”
She stopped, an odd feeling of leaden guilt settling in her stomach and lightheadedness leaving her winded for a moment, terrified about what she was about to say. But she had to. For her sister. Only for her.
“I’ve got a plan to take down the Carna.”
