It was different, this place. It always had been. From the first moment he’d set foot here. But at least now he had something to work for – something to keep his idle hands active. Before it had just been the mundane duties of Carna life. Working his way through the ranks, starting out as a godforsaken Tenderfoot and having to dig out latrines and take care of sanitation. It was like being every single ever-living Carna’s whipping boy. Or more realistically, being everyone’s bitch.
It had been a blessing when he was finally bumped up to Hunter. And then Alpha Manic and his strange, quite creepy right-hand woman Eris had picked him for somewhat of a special mission. They’d noticed his “skills” at maneuvering around people and lying his way into the various different sleeping quarters of his “comrades.” Eris had presented him with an opportunity, carefully outlining the plan and getting the point across that should he screw up, or betray the Carna, that he would be the one hanging along the border without a head or…certain other body parts that dangle.
Jonny twitched just thinking about it, pushing the tiny but surprisingly scary woman out of his thoughts and focused on what he was doing – trying to get into the Fulsi. He crossed into the Fulsi territory – or where they had staked their claim on the neutral territories. He’d been wandering as a Rogue for weeks now to rub off the scent of the Carna. And it helped that the Keepers had just snatched him up a day or two ago, grunting something about preliminary tests. Which meant he’d probably get taken again sometime soon. But he smelled of the labs, and with this new set of clothes he’d raided from a drop, he would look like a newbie. And surely the Fulsi would be willing to take in some fresh meat.
So the blond strolled along the street in front of the Inn – Breathelight was it? Interesting. Jonny smiled briefly, hands stuffed in his pockets as he pursed his lips to let out a jauntily whistled tune. The signal they’d set up. If his makeshift calendar was correct and time had been kept accordingly, today was the day that Crash would meet him here and their plan would be set into motion. Jonny couldn’t say that he was especially excited about what was to happen next – in fact he would prefer not to have that happen at all, but he knew it was necessity for their plan to work.
ooc; First Jonny post XD F-fail, but at least we can get teh plot started! >D

Today was the day! Crash grinned as he made his way towards the Inn. Some part of him still felt wrong about enjoying his job so much, but the Carna Beta didn’t get out much— Well, when he did, it was never for anything good. To leave the Carna territory for a little while was a treat! Not to mention that his Ring was also getting a new spy today! That’s why he was out here, after all. Crash shifted as he neared the Inn, so that if any Fulsi were around he’d be less noticeable. Having green hair was a good way to make your enemies remember you, but Crash was out here alone and didn’t want to run into a patrol before he finished what he came here to do.
A giant, light-colored lion wasn’t that much more inconspicuous, but Crash had little choice. Sharp blue feline eyes scanned the area, looking for his intended target. His ears suddenly perked as he heard it, Jonny whistling in the distance. It was the signal they had decided on before they sent the Carna Hunter out on his own to get rid of his scent. Crash bounded toward the source of the noise until he had Jonny in his sights, and then slowed to a walk again and prowled up to him instead. The lion let out a growl as Jonny’s pungent scent reached him.
“I see the Keepers helped you out, then,” He muttered, wiping a massive paw over his nose. Crash found that he never got quite used to the strange, sterilized smell of the labs that lingered on all of the newcomers, or even Carna that had been taken in for further testing. When Crash himself got taken in, he came right back and soaked in the bay until the horrible smell went away. But for their plan, it was the perfect cover, even if he hated to smell it. Either way, the air would soon be thick with the smell of blood instead.
“You ready, Jonny?” Crash questioned, flexing his claws. This was the last thing that needed to be taken care of before Jonny could properly be accepted into the Fulsi Ring. All new Carna members received The Mark when they joined, three claw marks on the upper left arm that forever branded them as property of the Ring, who would give their very lives to defend it. Unfortunately, at least for Jonny, it became a problem when it came to having spies in other Rings. There was only one way to deal with it—to make it unrecognizable.
Crash suddenly let out an ear-shattering roar, hoping to draw more attention to them before he tore his Ringmate to ribbons. After all, if no one found Jonny and he bled out instead, he wouldn’t be doing the Carna much good! The lion reared up and unsheathed his claws, before falling down on Jonny’s arm where he usually left The Mark. Crash made one long swipe, straight through the old scars and clear across Jonny’s chest. For good measure, he dug his claws into Jonny’s left shoulder and raked them all the way down his arm, slicing through the flesh like butter.
Crash shifted back into his human form and stepped away, examining his work. No one would see the mark under all of the hunter’s new scars. “You know what you have to do. We’ll be watching,” He reminded, quickly darting to take cover in another nearby building. Jonny’s screams would have to be enough to attract the Fulsi now. Crash could only watch and make sure they took him into their Ring, or perhaps get him help if no one showed up. He let out a soft laugh imagining the look on Jonny’s face if he told him that they were going to have to try again later! All of the mauling would have been for nothing.
“You’d better hope some poor sucker finds you, McNabb.”
Jonny kept up his whistling, thinking of any tune he could remember. Some persistent memory clambered for his attentions, seeming to plaster itself in several little frames all over the inside of his mind like an old movie film. The memory was shaky and sporadic, cutting in and out so that he could hardly make anything out. His mother in the kitchen and his father coming up behind her, swooping her up in a great hug before twirling her around and leading her in a dance about the kitchen. He acted as if it was some ballroom dance floor. Jonny smiled a bit at the thought, remembering the music that had been playing on the radio. Some old song. But his Mother, from that point on, would whistle it every time she was in the kitchen, perhaps thinking of that fond memory.
Jonny sighed and couldn't help but think back on what he'd left behind. But it was exactly that - behind him. And he had all the world, at least the bit the Keepers had given them, ahead of him. And a tantalizing challenge at his fingertips. So he brought his mind back to focus on the task at hand. He’d strolled past the Inn and circled back around so as not to look to suspicious; but there was still the relatively fresh scent of Fulsi in the air and he knew they’d be lurking somewhere near by. Jonny craned his head back to look at the sky - Crash would be here soon. Jonny had learned to tell the time of day, roughly, by the position of the sun in the sky. Some piece of long-lost knowledge that the modern world had long gotten rid of with the fantastic little invention called the watch. But the Menagerie made it a necessity, where a watch was a rare think - a working watch near impossible to find. Even as his thoughts continued to drift and sway, he kept an eye on the territory about him.
His nose picked up a familiar scent and he pulled to a stop, but kept up the whistling. Crash rounded the corner just then and Jonny relaxed, not realizing that his body had been tense. But it was only for a moment that he looked at his friend with relief, because he remembered what Crash was here to do. “I see the Keepers helped you out, then,”
“ ‘m still sore from it,” he grunted in reply, though perhaps a poor choice of words. He winced, thinking about how sore he would be after today. “You ready, Jonny?” Jonny tensed and took in a few deep breaths, locking eyes with Crash. He knew what had to be done. “Aye.” He nodded, clenching his fists at his side. Jonny couldn’t decide if he wanted to see it coming or not and kept opening and closing his eyes as Crash flexed his claws and drew slowly closer. Good God here it comes! He thought a few times, having to hold his breath and let it go a few times before he didn’t have to worry any more about seeing it coming - because Jesus Christ there it was! Jonny couldn’t help but leap backwards on instinct at the gut-wrenching roar Crash let out, a scream tearing from as the claws dug deep into his flesh and sliced downward and across his chest in one giant, easy swipe.
Gasping for air Jonny thought it was over and tried to pull away, but Crash wasn’t done. Crash’s claws drew out another vicious scream as his claws gored through Jonny’s flesh as if it were a thin sheet of paper. When the lion released him and shifted back, Jonny hit the ground a half second later in a growing pool of blood, his hands frozen in a half-grasp and fingers splayed as he tried to ride out the pain lancing through his upper body. Jonny was almost too busy screaming to hear Crash’s final remark, “You know what you have to do. We’ll be watching,”
“Ye didnae have to be so happy abou’ it!” he called weakly after Crash, who by then was long gone. Jonny’s blood-drenched hands started to shake and tremble as shock set in - the wounds weren’t as deep as Crash could have made them, but they were still helluva lot bigger than Jonny had imagined. The pain was agonizing, and he almost retched as the pain washed over him again and again, seeming to time with the gushes of blood that spilled out onto the sidewalk underneath him. “Help!” he shouted hoarsely, this time not having to act in the slightest. He prayed to God a Fulsi would hear him - and take it upon their saintly selves to save his ass. “Help me, please!”
Today is all we've got, The moment’s here then not...
With a new spring in his step, Casey made his way back toward Fulsi territory and away from the hospital. His thoughts still lingered on Sascha and the time they had just spent together. Honestly, Casey didn’t think he had ever been so happy. He just wished that Sascha didn’t have to live so far! Casey sighed, making a mental note to maybe talk to Adam about his feelings on anthros. If Sascha could live at the Inn again, perhaps Casey could even stop by and visit him while patrolling the area. For now, all he had to look forward to was the long walk back to the Gospel Complex.
As he finally entered Fulsi territory again, the wind shifted and the overwhelming stench of blood rushed towards him. Casey felt a chill run down his spine as a desperate cry for help reached him as well. Someone was in serious trouble! Casey immediately shifted and bounded in Jonny’s direction, his keen sense of smell guiding him to the source of the smell. As the wolf padded up to Jonny, he detected another scent under all of the blood, and had no trouble placing it. The labs! So this poor newbie had been attacked on his first day, then. Those damned Carna didn’t give anyone a break, did they?
Casey shifted back and knelt in the pool of blood right next to Jonny, gingerly placing his left hand on the poor man’s chest, and with his other hand, gently brushed his blonde hair out of his face, hoping to make him more comfortable. “It’s okay, it’s okay,” Casey told the stranger calmly, as he began to direct his healing energies toward the massive wounds. “I’m here to help you, alright? My name’s Casey, and I’m a Fulsi Scout. What’s your name?” He asked, making sure to keep a smile on his face as best he could. The calmer he could keep Jonny, the sooner he could get him stabilized to move. They were sitting ducks out here if the Carna had attacked Jonny decided to come back.
While Casey distracted the injured man, the gashes on his arm and chest had stopped bleeding so furiously, though Casey didn’t have the strength to close them completely. That sort of healing would take rest on both of their parts, and definitely a few more healing sessions. The scars, however, would probably never go away completely. Though Casey was a skilled healer, that Carna had done a number on the guy.
“C’mon, let’s move to the Inn right over there, where it’s safer,” Casey told him, helping Jonny to his feet and half-carrying him into the building and to a familiar room. It was Sascha’s, or at least it had been when they’d first met, before the Fulsi had taken over the Inn. Casey gently laid the man down on the mattress, and collapsed beside him on the floor. “Phew, long day, huh?”
ooc; Hope the move inside is okay? c:
...And if tomorrow never comes, I'll be standing with the one I love.
He'd stopped screaming for help after about five minutes, allowing his head to fall in the pool of blood. Jonny groaned at the thought of having to clean all of this off later - if there was a later. But he had faith, if not in the Fulsi, then in Crash. He knew his Beta was watching from a safe distance to ensure that if a Fulsi didn't come across Jonny that he would be helped. So Jonny rode it out and tried his best to cover his wounds to stop the blood flow. But he cold hardly move his arms - in fact it felt like Crash had torn through some pretty important muscles.
He tried thinking of something else - anything else - to get his mind off the blood and the pain. He squeezed his eyes shut and tried whistling again, but he'd managed to get some blood on his lips and couldn't get a tune. Grunting, he rolled on his back. If he was gonna die, he wanted to see the sky and get a good look at God's face before he bit the dust. His hearing had gone fuzzy and he didn't hear Casey's approach, so when the Fulsi's face popped up in front of him with a hand reaching out toward his face Jonny flinched hard, his hands flying up to cover his face. “Christ!” he barked, though when he noticed that this sharp movement had set his blood gushing out twice as fast he laid back went limp, head lolling to the side.
Jonny let out a low moan, his hand grasping at Casey's shoulder, trying to make sense of his words. The Fulsi's featherlight touch on his forehead did bring some surprising comfort, like back when his mother used to take his temperature. "J-Jonny." he finally sputtered, though he couldn't manage to squeeze any more words out as the kind little Fulsi man went to work. Jonny grunted, his eyes squeezing shut as the warming sensation spread over his arms, tingling across his chest with a sharp, intense burning that caused Jonny to buck his body upward in shock.
When it was over, Jonny was still sprawled on his back with his so called "savior" kneeling at his side. He was still covered in blood but it wasn't gushing or even oozing. Kudos to the kid, Jonny thought with a smirk. The Carna had some pretty good healers, too. But he'd always been amazed at this ability. Jonny groaned when a sudden ringing clouded his thoughts, a sharp yet at the same time hazy voice seeming to swarm in his skull. Something about scars, the Carna. Healing sessions. Jonny grunted, rubbing a hand to his temple. What the hell was that?
The furious rush of sounds ebbed slowly, and Jonny nodded to Casey and accepted a hand up, leaning heavily against the slightly shorter Fulsi for support. He added a limp for effect, though in reality he did feel exhausted. Who knew getting mauled by a lion, who just so happened to be a rather close personal friend, could take so much out of you? He was silent as Casey led him to the room, overtaken by exhaustion and the strange buzzing in his skull. The voice was back again, this time mentioning something about a Sascha and the Fulsi kicking him out of this room. Jonny tried to bat the thoughts away and willingly plopped down on the mattress, letting out a sigh of relief. He was on his way.
Pale blue eyes flickered to Casey's, trying to read that face. Not bad looking, really. Not really his type - but not bad looking. His eyes skimmed briefly over the planes of his "saviors" body, lips pursed as he considered his words. "Aye," he muttered, laying his hands behind his head, grimacing as he decided against it. He ran a finger along the gashes in his arms, allowing his face to fill with a mix of confusion and awe. "Thank ye for saving me, Casey. Dunna what I woulda done wi'out ya." He flashed Casey a nervous smile, in reality anything but. But he used his brush with death, letting out a weak and nervous chortle of laughter. "Die, I guess." His brain was working, trying to pick out how to best go about working this fellow. Jonny wasn't sure if the Fulsi had pinned him as a newbie or not, so he really had to sell it. "How...how did ye pull this off?" Jonny asked, motioning to the semi-healed wounds on his arm. "Ain't never seen nothin' like that afore."
He paused and looked around the room before turning his gaze back on Casey. "Was a lion tha' did this to me. But his human form, this big ol' fellow with green hair. Three claw marks on his arm." Jonny gulped, fear flickering in his blue-brown gaze as he mimicked the mark, wincing as he realized there were fresh wounds there. "Said the Carna wouldna want me." He cleared his throat and his brow furrowed as he thought it over. "The hell is a Carna? An' why did that guy tear me to shreds for no good reason?"
ooc; wtf long post. calm down, bro.

Today is all we've got, The moment’s here then not...
Casey glanced up at Jonny again as he spoke. It was amazing he could even speak after everything he’d been through, but then again, Casey had put plenty of energy into healing him. He smiled and gave himself a metaphorical pat on the back for a job well done. It brought up memories of when Sascha, not Jonny lay in that bed, amazed as Casey healed his wounds away. “No problem,” Casey finally answered Jonny, flashing him a bright smile. “I’m just glad I was around to help.” It was true that not many Fulsi came all the way out to the edge of the newer border; In fact, Casey was only there because it was the fastest way back from Sascha’s new home in the hospital. Without Casey, Jonny might have bled out waiting for the next patrol.
"How...how did ye pull this off?" Casey was caught off-guard by the question, and for a moment, stared at Jonny like he was crazy. Part of him wanted to say ‘Well, I’m a healer, of course!’ until Casey realized that Jonny must be a newbie. It explained his strange scent and spotless clothes— other than all the blood, of course. It was strange for him to imagine a world without healers, or people who could read minds, but to the newer shifters those abilities must have seemed miraculous. “Oh, well, some people around here have gotten special abilities,” Casey explained. He tried to keep it simple, since the idea itself would be hard enough for Jonny to wrap his head around. “I’m a healer, for example. I use my energy to heal my own wounds, and others’, but I can also take energy away. Other people can do other things… You’ll see the more you get to know people,” Casey added with a shrug. Perhaps if Jonny came back to the Fulsi with him, he would meet some.
As Jonny continued, telling Casey about his encounter with the Carna, a chill ran down Casey’s spine and his blood ran cold. A lion…with green hair. Of course Casey knew who that was. It was the man who had held him, and punched him till he was ready to puke, before Manic threatened to kill him during the raid. Casey let out a soft hiss as he remembered it all yet again. After all of his nightmares and remembrances of the raid, frankly Casey was getting sick of thinking about it. Would he ever just be able to forget it? “The Carna is another Ring, and you ran into their Beta, or second in command. A total asshole, by the way. The Carna don’t need any reason to tear someone to shreds. They’re no good, Jonny. You don’t want anything to do with them anyways!”
Casey sighed and sat up next to Jonny’s bed, reaching over and gently placing a hand on his shoulder. “But a Ring is the best way to survive around here. Would you… Would you consider coming back to the Fulsi Ring with me?”
...And if tomorrow never comes, I'll be standing with the one I love.
There was that name again. Sascha. Something about a man named Sascha kept flitting about in his skull – dull flashes of a man’s face, blurred and barely visible. The ringing in his ears was back and it intensified as Casey spoke, Jonny’s eyes glazing over as a sharp pain tore through his skull. He gasped and clutched at his temple, his vision seeming to black out for a moment as an onrush of images and voices flooded him. Fire, screams, blood…pain. Unknown faces flashed by, stricken with pain – then two familiar ones. Manic and Crash, the unyielding sense of terror, the trembling of anger and shock. It was scenes from a raid. The pain intensified and the voices were screeching in his head till it reached a roaring crescendo, Jonny clutching at himself in a agonized silence and it felt as if his skull was going to split in two. He could barely hear Casey talk over the roar in his head, blue and brown eyes narrowed as he tried to contain the flashes of agony that must have passed across them. He mustered out a couple of words, though he could barely even hear himself talk above the racket. "Carna equals assholes. Gotchya."
Jonny let out a sharp gasp as one last bolt of pain shocked through him as the voices continued to scream until suddenly, at Casey’s feather-light touch, silence descended. The screams stopped, the flickering images faded and Jonny fell back, exhausted. Casey would have been able to see the pain, though Jonny had tried to hide it. His chest was heaving and he seemed to be struggling for air. He resisted a grin though as Casey leaned over to check him, the offer slipping from his lips. Well. This had been surprisingly easy. Overcome with a sense of self-satisfaction, Jonny pushed himself up off the bed toward Casey as the Fulsi leaned over him, and with a lazy tom-cat smile Jonny pressed his lips against his newfound "friend" and went to town. He pulled away and grinned, sharp blue eyes glinting. "More than happy t'," he said, saluting Casey with a raw grin.

Today is all we've got, The moment’s here then not...
As Casey waited for Jonny’s answer, he tried to busy himself by leaning over and inspecting Jonny’s still-healing wounds. He didn’t want to look desperate, but he knew that the Fulsi could always use another able-bodied man, and besides… Casey had just saved his life, hadn’t he? Jonny seemed nice enough, too, and he could see them getting along well. Excited at the aspect of having another friend in the Fulsi, Casey didn’t see it coming. Suddenly Jonny’s face was well, on his face, their lips crashing together as Jonny made his move.
Casey nearly jumped in surprise and was frozen in shock. He blinked and then simply stared wide-eyed at Jonny, and still the kiss didn’t end. It seemed like ages before the other man finally pulled away, and grinned up at him with a satisfied smile. The Fulsi scout really didn’t know what to think; he might have enjoyed it if he hadn’t met Jonny only that morning, or even if he’d seen it coming somehow. Casey was simply left speechless. Funnily enough, he’d met Sascha this same way, in this same room even. For a moment he thought back to the day that seemed so long ago, when he and Damian had been attacked by a virus and were saved by the bat anthro. They’d come back here and Casey had healed their wounds, and like Jonny, Sascha had been amazed. And then the kiss that had started it all, even though it had ended everything with Damian… But this wouldn’t end anything with Sascha. Jonny was just his new friend, and Sascha was the one he loved.
“Er… Uh, thank…thank you? I guess,” He stumbled, giving Jonny a quick pat on the head, as if dismissing the unexpected kiss. “Let’s just get you better so we can get you back to the Fulsi, alright?”
...And if tomorrow never comes, I'll be standing with the one I love.
