[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,459,true] | [atrb=background,http://usera.imagecave.com/Ravenz/sixingold/lissy2.jpg] Elisabeth was taking the well-worn, familiar route to the Oasis, two buckets swinging at her sides. She supposed that she ought to be bitter that she was still doing such monotonous and simple tasks, or even just annoyed, but the spring atmosphere wasn’t letting her. Everywhere she looked there were signs of new life and new beginnings, even in as barren a place as the desert. Some cacti had small flowers blooming, and she’d caught sight of an assortment of insects. At one point in her walk she’d even come across an entire family of lizards!
She kept up a smile and let herself fall into a sort of skip-step as she neared the Oasis, thinking that she might explore around the pond a little bit and then lay out and take a nap. This would be her first time visiting the Oasis this year; with the flash floods that even the Fallen were getting there had been no need for anyone to journey out so far for water. But it was drying up now, and one of her many (too many, she thought) superiors had sent her out to fetch some water.
And there the water was! She broke into a run at the first glimpse of palm trees, her newly toned legs closing the distance in long strides. Elisabeth had lost all the baby fat she’d had when she entered the Menagerie; now she was lean and in shape, and the once-daunting task of walking from the Station to the Oasis and back was nothing. She performed an agile leap over a bush, officially entering the Oasis.
The girl dropped the buckets and went straight for the water, slowing down and doing a few hop-steps to give her time to pull her shoes and socks off. She left them in a trail towards the pond; she wasn’t worried about anyone stealing them, as she’d only met one other intelligent being at the Oasis. That had been one crazy day, she recalled. She had yet to meet the lovable anthro Sascha again, but she wasn’t worried. She was sure he was taking very good care of their duckling.
But she didn’t have time to worry about that now! She splashed into the water a few steps before letting herself fall completely in, clothes and all. The water felt so good. The dragonfly shifter rolled onto her back and floated, kicking a little to push herself farther away from shore. It wasn’t unbearably hot, but it still was nice to take a nice cool swim.
Elisabeth drifted in the water for a few more minutes before boredom drove her out. She climbed out of the pond and began walking around the edge of it, looking for a sunny place to lay where she could dry her clothes. As she was passing a particularly thick bunch of trees and bushes, though, and odd noise made her pause. She frowned and listened. It was very faint and very strange. It almost sounded like someone was eating. A very hungry someone.
The girl pulled her wet curls off to one side and ducked under a low branch. She stepped carefully over roots and other foliage, keeping a sharp eye out for the venomous creatures her mentor had warned her about. She’d heard what one bite from the right reptile could do and had no desire to put the theory to practice.
So intent on the ground was she that the presence of the large golden horse wasn’t known to her until she put a hand on his rump, getting a great jolt of surprise when the tree she’d been expecting had fur. She pulled her hand back into her chest and looked up, wide-eyed, at the great beast of a horse that was devouring the fruit of a tree. She’d never seen such a horse! Her shock melted into awe as her eyes trailed over the rest of his body, coming down to rest on the hooves that were reminiscent of dinner plates. He was SO BIG! And, by the looks of it, he apparently hadn’t noticed her presence.
She considered saying something, but thought better of it. Why not try out her telepathy first and see if this was a Shifter or a Retromorph, or maybe just an animal? And what ring, too. Elisabeth almost had her telepathy under control, though she still heard the occasional random thought and couldn’t stay in any one person’s mind too long.
‘I love apples so much. I wonder why Adi doesn’t like apples? They’re so sweet and delicious. All he eats all day are lizard guts, which are tasty but I still like apples better. Apples apples apples,’ Elisabeth drew her mind back, confused. She was even more perturbed when she saw he was snacking on an exotic-looking purple fruit that resembled an apple about as much as a rock resembled a turtle.
She put out a tentative hand, clenched up in a fist, and rapped softly three times on his rump. She wasn’t sure how to get his attention or introduce herself, so she decided that knocking might be a polite thing to do, even if she was knocking on his body. “Er, hello? Mister Horse?” Elisabeth meant to ask if he would perhaps be willing to share his ‘apples,’ but when she spoke her gaze wandered back up at him and she realized again just how big he was. She panicked and lost her train of thought, and was left with her mouth open, gaping at him. Upon noticing this she struggled out a sentence, but the best she could come up with was a brilliant “Why do you have such big feet?”

Adolf was hungry, to say the least. His tummy had the rumblies that only apples could satisfy. He'd tagged along with Adison to come and visit Adelina and Adi's new daughter, Reagan. Adolf's chest swelled with pride, knowing that he had been the one to help bring Reagan into this world safe and sound. It was just too bad that Adi didn't want to move here permanently. In the short time that they had spent hiding from Manic here in the Fallen, Adolf had grown to love and adore the FallenRing. It had become more of a home to him than the Carna ever had. And although the Carna were his friends and he loved them...there were times that he feared them. He was terrified of their darker sides, the evil that Manic brought out in them. He only stayed for his brother Adison.
But his visits were always wonderful, and he took the opportunity to visit the Oasis as often as he could when he came to the Fallen. They always had such delicious fruits! And Skye and Adelina had welcomed him to as much as he wanted - however Adolf doubted that they knew how much he could eat at one sitting so he only took enough for him to get rid of the rumbles in his tummy. So Adolf had loped to the oasis first as the familiar and comfortable gnu, cloven hooves easily adapting to the sandy, barren terrain. He followed the well-worn path and got there in no time at all, where he promptly made his way to one of the fruit-bearing trees. He had a problem, though. The fruit were pretty high up. Grunting, Adolf thought for a moment then snorted, thinking himself quite silly. Of course!
With one fluid step Adolf shifted from the small, bony wildebeest to the big-boned, enormous Clydesdale horse, his pelt rippling with muscle and shimmering a brilliant golden color. "And now, to feast!" he whinnied happily, shoving his big muzzle into the leafy tree and plucking the sweet fruits with his furry lips, big ivory teeth chomping on the delicious fruits, the juices dribbling down to his whiskered chin. His brain set itself into graze mode and his thoughts funneled around food as he continued to chomp on the fruit he really didn't know the name of and thus termed "Apples."
He was so intent on shoving his mouth full of fruit that he didn't even feel the soft hand on his hind leg, whipping his long blond-yellow tail to slap at it, thinking it a fly. When a small voice piped up and asked him a question, rapping three times on his rump in such a polite way, Adolf's head whipped around. His big ears flicked forward and he continued to munch on his fruit. He swallowed and his big tongue flicked out to lick at the juices that had dripped onto his chin as he thought it over. "I dunno. My Mama says I got my big feet from my Papa." He turned so that he was facing her, his massive head looming over hers. He lowered his muzzle and snuffled at her feet. "How come you got such tiny ones?" He noticed the buckets not too far off and shuffled closer so that he leaned over her shoulder, his big horse-chest pressed against her shoulder. "I'm Adolf. Do you got any more food in those buckets?"

Behind his fuzzy lips two rows of large teeth sat, and between them was an impossibly long tongue. Her eyes followed it as he lapped up the spilled juices. Woah.
“Who’s your Mama? And Papa? Does he really have as big of feet as yours? Or are they bigger?!” |
[/b] The thought of a creature with feet even bigger than his was almost too much for Elisabeth to handle; she put a hand to her cheek and her eyes widened. Imagine getting stepped on by one of those feet! No, thank you. She was inspecting his hooves yet again when the sun was suddenly blocked. Blinking, she glanced up and saw the mammoth head above her. She didn’t have any time to react; quick as the horse’s head was there, it was gone, and she felt a tickling at her bare feet. Elisabeth giggled and wriggled her toes. Oh, he had whiskers! She never knew that horses had whiskers! “I don’t know,” She admitted at his questioning. “I used to think I had normal sized ones, but maybe I was wrong!”
She’d barely spoken before the Clydesdale was moving again. He bumped against her shoulder; probably not intentionally hard, but he was so massive compared to her that the little touch was enough to send her off balance. A soft noise of surprise was accompanied by arm flailing; it almost looked as if she hoped to stay upright by flapping her arms and perhaps growing wings. Instead of sprouting feathers, though, she was saved from falling by grabbing and hanging onto the horse’s ear. A moment of triumph reigned as she was suspended from his ear, her small fist clamped tight around it, but the moment passed and his ear slipped out of her hand. She fell into the mud, straight on her behind.
Still a little shocked from all that had happened in a matter of seconds, she looked up at the horse – Adolf, he’d introduced himself as. From her new vantage point she could only see an expansive chest and the underside of his head, and four pillar-like legs. Elisabeth drew her legs close to her body, her eyebrows knit in concentration. He wouldn’t step on her… right? He could see her?
At his request she leaned over and drew the buckets near her. Though she knew the answer, she still glanced in them, and then titled them so he could see. “No, sorry, I only meant to bring them to carry back water. If I would’ve known there was a Very Hungry Horse, I would’ve packed some food!” She punctuated her speech with nods, regretting she hadn’t brought a snack to share. She wasn’t worried that he would be too upset by this, though; he seemed to move from subject to subject quickly, which she liked. She did that, too, and it was comforting to find little similarities like that in others. In fact, she liked this horse, even if he did push her down in the mud. The Tenderfoot tilted her head and leaned back against a palm tree. Why hadn’t she seen him around the Fallen before? “Pleasure, Adolf. I’m Elisabeth Ramsey. Where did you come from? Are you a Fallen, too? You smell kind of like a Fallen, you know! But then again, I’m not very good at scents, so I don’t know for sure.” She gushed on, content, though she was talking to his knees. Elisabeth always enjoyed meeting new friends.--- words; 590ooc; 8DDD

Adolf's attention was focused on the buckets he was determined to make his if they had food in them. His large, round belly gave a loud gurgle and he heard her talking again and he figured he'd better listen. "My Mama is...well she's my Mama. And my Papa...well he's my Papa. They live over in Studio Ess with my twin sister Carme!" He nodded vigorously as it to prove he was so sure of himself it required not one nod, but several. "And my Papa's feet are much bigger!" He laughed, though it came out a little gargled and a bit odd from a horse mouth. He wondered if he should show her what his Papa looked like, the big...big...Elphant thing. He could've shifted into it but it was hard work, and his new friend was already so tiny. Adolf didn't notice when he accidentally knocked her over, as he'd been so focused on her buckets and the possible goodies inside, until she grabbed hold of his ear.
He thought her attempts to stay upright were quite silly and his sharp blue eyes sparkled with mirth, nostrils flaring as he shook with silent laughter, completely fine with his small friend hanging off his ear, simply looking back into her eyes. He tried to catch her when she fell but succeeded in only grabbing the very end of her long blond hair between his teeth and tugging gently, not enough to hurt her. "I'm sorry!" he squeaked, his massive head lowering again to snuffle at her amongst the mud. "Are you okay? It's a shame about the food though. I'm really am a Very Hungry Horse!" He pawed at the ground, carefully though as not to hit her small feet, and let out a happy whinny that had a tinge to laughter to it.
"Elisabeth Ramsey! I'm Adolf, but you already know that. Adolf Sotero is my full name though. And I'm not a Fallen, though I wish I could be." he paused, ears flicking as he listened for anyone else around them, then lowered his head real low so it was right next to her ear. "Don't tell no one but I'm a Carna, and I come here all the time with my brother Adi to visit Adelina and her baby." Adolf nodded, his bright blue eyes brimming with mischief at the thought that he had a secret to keep. A secret to tell! "And scents are real easy when you practice for a while. I can teach you if you want!" Adolf's chest swelled with a burst of pride, thinking that for once he could teach someone something useful!
He remembered just then, perhaps a bit too late, something that his Mother had told him. It was good manners to shake a new ac...acqua...a new friend's hand! Adolf lifted one of his massive hooves and attempted to shake hands with Elisabeth, but he thought better of it. He thought better and shifted back into his human form and stretched down a hand towards the girl, as usual clad in nothing more than the skin that God had given him.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,459,true] | [atrb=background,http://usera.imagecave.com/Ravenz/sixingold/lissy2.jpg] She watched with her eyes bright and listened with her ears and occasionally her mind as her new friend spoke. His words were accompanied by images and scents and sounds and emotions dragged up by memories, and she felt as if she was meeting each of his family members. She didn’t just know what Mama looked like, she knew Mama, knew the way she hugged Adolf, the way she smiled and that distinct motherly smell she had. She also met his Papa and his sister—twin sister! I have sisters who are twins! Though she wanted nothing more than to share this pleasant similarity with him, she couldn’t; she was stopped in her tracks when she came across the elephant in Adolf’s mind. Her mouth opened in a small ‘o’ of shock as she tried to understand just how big his father was.
So. Big. No, more than that. Huge. Ginormous.
Elisabeth was beginning to feel light-headed from the thought of such a large creature and temporarily lost control of her abilities. Instead of losing contact with the mind, though, she found she was dragged deeper in. She was lost in a whirl of memories and feelings and things that just seemed too personal for her to be in. With a shudder pulled out and shut down her telepathic abilities, leaving her with that odd sense of quietness and a dull longing for her own family. Lately she’d been getting deeper and deeper into peoples’ memories and thoughts, which made her uncomfortable but also awakened her to a thirst for knowledge that she’d been ignorant of. She knew she was obviously meant to use her gift, as God had given it to her, but perhaps He didn’t want her to get that personal.
Already, though, she was forgetting about her wistful feelings. Adolf’s large furry head snuffled at her again, sending her into fits of giggles as she twisted to get away and spread mud over more of her skirt and stockings. Those whiskers just got her every time! When he lifted his head to whinny she struck back. She attacked his legs—right around the knee, more specifically—with her tickle fingers.
“I’m fine! It’s more fun here anyway, you look at least twenty times bigger when I’m down here! And why don’t you join the Fallen? It’s very nice! Skye is our Alpha, and I even met her a few times! She’s fantastic, you’d love her,” Elisabeth’s words fell out of her mouth as excitedly as energized electrons leaping from orbital to orbital. They ran together a little, as they tended to do when she had so much that she wanted to say all at once, but it was still comprehensible. Adolf put his head down near hers then and she got the familiar thrill that came with the sharing of secrets.
His breath was warm and scratchy in her ear, and it was all she could do not to break into fits of laughter again. There was just something about this Adolf Sotero that made her feel like laughing all the time, and she liked that. Plus, his secret was a good one. There was something to be said for having good secrets to share. She immediately felt the pressure; it was her turn to reveal a secret of her own, and it had to be as good as his. But what? The Tenderfoot began to genuinely worry, though she needn’t have. She was saved from thinking up a secret, for he didn’t seem to be finish sharing his.
In some corner of her mind she registered that he was shifting, but it meant almost nothing to her. She shifted all the time and was around people who were constantly shifting. After her first few days in the Menagerie it had become no big deal, and never did she think that one shift would become as big of a deal as Adolf’s. For a second she just blinked, surprised at the sudden change in size of the Carna before her. Then she realized what she was staring at, conveniently at eye-level from her sitting position.
Her scream was so shrill that the vulture circling a few yards over abandoned its perspective meal to leave and the turtles laying out on a log in the pond jumped and fell off. Her hands flew up to cover her eyes, but it was too late. Adolf’s naked figure would forever be stuck inside her innocent mind. She drew herself up into a fetal position and shoved her face into her knees, but couldn’t get the image of the Medic and all his… manhood out of her mind. The more she thought about how she must, how it wasn’t prudent and how vulnerable she was to the Devil and how God would punish her for it, the more concrete the picture became. It burned at her like a sin should. Her screams dwindled down to low moans and she rocked back and forth, her eyes still pushed shut by her knees and her knees shoved into her chest and her arms holding her entire self in.

Elisabeth's tickle-fingers would have left him in stitches if she had kept at it for too long, and his horse laugh was an odd sounding thing to be sure, but rather cute if you looked at it differently. Adolf was excited - his new friendship seemed to be going so smoothly so far, and he had never met a girl like Elisabeth. She was very pretty and he liked her long blonde hair, it reminded him of the sunshine. And she was very friendly, too, with a laugh that just wanted to make him laugh even more. And although Adolf was a very friendly Carna, many of his Ringmates didn't take so kindly to his constant happiness, which he didn't quite understand. But Elisabeth seemed like she would like his constant smile - so instantly Adolf felt like he could be very good friends with her.
Until she started screaming. Adolf blinked at her in confusion as she curled up into a tiny ball and screamed a time or two more before subsiding into whines and whimpers. Adolf frowned and stared down at the hand he offered to her, still hanging suspended in the air. What was wrong? Was there a spider on his hand? He pulled his hand and looked hard at it, twisting it round and inspecting it. Finding nothing, he thought it quite silly. Why would she be scared of spiders? They were delicious snacks and nothing to be frightened of.
Adolf came to the conclusion that he could absolutely not understand why she would scream like that. Except...well. A deep frown pulled at his full lips as he looked on at Elisabeth, though she refused to meet his eyes or even look up from her tucked in knees. His brows knit together and he wanted to reach out and touch her, just lightly on the shoulder - but he didn't want to scare her anymore. She was right to be scared though, after all he was nothing more than an animal. That's obviously what she had seen - she'd seen through his smiles and human appearance and driven right to the source of everything he tried to outrun. The animal that he had been raised to be - savage and blood thirsty and afraid of anything human. And terrifying and ugly and terrible. Hot, shamed tears pricked at his eyes and he couldn't bear to look at the friend he'd scared away.
"Elisabeth?" he whispered, standing back up to his full height and walking to hide behind the tree, suddenly shy of his new friend. Maybe if she couldn't see him she would forget that he was a monster on the inside. "I'm...I'm sorry to have scared you." She hates you. Look at her - cowering. She sees the real you. The thing that makes Papa so proud. Oh, no. No, no, no. Not her. Not her. Adolf cringed and grabbed at his ears, trying to drive the voice away - the voice he thought he'd gotten rid of. You can't get rid of me, darling. Just like you can't gid rid of what you really are, you beastly thing! Run, run now before you hurt her.
"I'm...I'll just go." He couldn't ignore her; but he couldn't just leave his friend here. He stepped out from behind the tree and as he walked by her bent down to place a hesitant hand on her shoulder. "Bye."He squeezed it ever so slightly before shifting fluidly into his bony, uncouth wildebeest form and slowly set off towards the Carna. Run, run all you like, Devil. You can't outrun the truth.
ooc; WHAT IS THIS EVEN x.x terrible, that is what. Also yes XD Adolf is schizophrenic if I forgot to mention it 3:
