[th] She was not technically trespassing... okay, so that was one of her infamous lies. She was most certainly trespassing, in every way, shape, and form of the word. She was a rebelgirl from Fulsi, practically waltzing - at least, if she had the slightest idea in how to dance, she would most certainly waltz - across a ring completely separate from her own; she was fairly sure that fell under the idea of trespassing, even if rules did so happen to be just a little loose here, and just a little looser for her. Rule breaking was, after all, the only thing that made her life worthwhile - if she could really refer to her life as several screwed-up, potentially traumatic events that were not even remotely compatible being smashed and forced together haphazardly, until she wound up here.
Almost any inhabitant of the Menagerie hated it. All the sane ones did, probably, and in a way Selyna did as well. But, oh, what fun it could be if you were like her - that was, if you really, truly didn't care what became of you or that "life" you had never been fond of. In the end, was life really that much more than an overrated piece of hell? She wasn't an analyst; she had never thought on it, and she didn't intend to. No matter what life was, whether it actually mattered or not in the end, moping around here wasn't going to make things better, and following the rules like a good little conformist citizen was not either. If she was good at nothing else, she excelled in the category of deviation from the norm. That, and manipulating. That was always a great deal of fun.
It was awhile before it occurred to her to shift forms; yet once it did, the idea refused to leave her mind. Obligingly, she allowed heavy eyelids to slip shut over bright, unnatural golden eyes - not that closing her eyes was necessary, but she preferred to. Immediately, she felt the change take hold of her body - arms and legs grow longer and thicker; flat, uninteresting nose extending into a canine muzzle; her skin appearing not to change, but to fade into pure, glossy white fur. She opened her eyes and watched in mild interest as the rest of her body took on similar lupine appearance, until she stood in her full form: a classic wolf, donned with snowy fur and the glowing golden eyes that now looked as though they belonged with her body. She had always enjoyed her wolf form many times more than her human: it was natural, as if she was meant to take it.
She adopted the casual lope any wolf could maintain for hours, now lowering her nose to the ground while her eyes flicked and searched for anyone who may challenge her for being here. What would they do, anyway? Imprison her? Attempt to kill her? Please. She would love the excitement... not that she ever allowed her life to be boring in the first place.

Jez strolled lazily along the border of her Ring's territory, enjoying the occasional rare breeze that pooped up here and there. Even though it was spring, the lands where Fallenring resided were already reaching sweltering temperatures from late morning to early evening. Letting out a sigh, Jezzie reached into the pouch wrapped around her waist, deftly pulled out an ice cold bottle of water, and took a swig; the shifter wasn't thirsty, but living in the desert, one learns it's better to be safe than sorry. Capping the bottle, she put it back in her pouch, while pausing to take a quick but thorough survey of the area. All still seemed calm and quiet, so Jez decided to do something she hadn't in a while: let her inner wolf out.
Doing a light and quick stretch of her muscles, Jezzie rolled her neck from side to side, then just simply let go. Within a second she felt it, the primal urge of her inner beast, eager and excited to be out and free. Letting that urge consume her, Jez felt as her bones started to mold and reshape; the sprouting of a tail, shifting of her ears as they went from the side of her skull to the top and elongated, the sprouting of fur. Seconds later, Jezzie was shaking out pure white fur that had streaks of light brown and black. Pink tongue lolling out to the side in a wolfy grin, the shifter set forward at a steady trot.
Pretty soon though, she came to an abrupt halt as her tongue shot back into her mouth in a loud slurp that would have been comical if the situation wasn't serious. Jez's nostrils flared as she inhaled the air for reassurance of the small whiff she caught earlier. And there it was again, the unmistakable smell of someone trespassing. 'Fulsi; shifter; female....' All of these things ran through Jezzie's mind as she started to follow the scent.
With the lands being nothing but sand-filled hills, it wasn't long before she came across tracks, and Jez's sharp, dark amber eyes found the other shifter herself. Amazingly, the trespasser was in her animal form as well, but this only made things easier for the young Scout. Letting out a sharp bark, Jezzie spoke in the tongue that only creatures of their species could understand. "Hey! What do you think you're doing on Fallen lands?!"

[th] A challenge was of no real concern to the shifter; after all, she'd come here for action. At first, she kept walking, muttering a curse every time her paws sank too deep in the sand. Why anyone would choose to live in this God-forsaken treehugger's world was far beyond the capabilities of her perception. She was far more suited to Fulsi - perhaps suited to perfection. She was a city girl, even if that city did happen to be abandoned and overgrown - and by nature, sly people like herself suited her. She did not take to pacifists.
So why was she there in the first place? It was difficult to say. Fulsi life was a bit lax as of late; perhaps she just wanted adventure. And challenge, of course, like that of the Fallen resident behind her. Still pretending to ignore her, she raised her muzzle the slightest bit to scent the air and folded her ears back, listening as attentively as she dared - and there wasn't much she didn't dare do. Scent told her more than sound; it was definitely a Fallen girl, not a trespasser like herself, female - and a wolf. How interesting. She could not remember meeting another of her species - granted, she saw them from time to time, wolves were common here, but she'd never met one.
She dropped her pretenses and turned to face her pursuer. Swishing her tail from side to side in a casual manner, she allowed herself to examine the other closely. A white wolf much like Selyna, to the Fulsi girl's surprise - yet she possessed a slightly different scent. It was a moment before Selyna identified it - she was an Arctic wolf, not a classic Timber. She did wonder, with a vague detachment, how uncomfortable the snow-accustomed pelt must be in the Fallen desert, but she wouldn't deign to ask.
Despite the challenge, she couldn't bring herself to see the other girl as a threat. It was only on rare occasion that Selyna did consider someone a threat. She retained a confidence that on occasion bordered on cockiness, but hell - nothing beside her skills of deception and occasionally her looks had ever saved her her entire life, during the Menagerie and before. The day she lost her overconfidence was the day of her death, period.
She allowed the slightest of expressions to grace her lupine mouth - something halfway between a smirk and her version of a smile. Her ears went forward, her head and tail raising slightly in the dominant posture of her breed, and, with her golden eyes gleaming with arrogance, finally broke the silence that was beginning to grow unnerving. "I'm exploring," she responded in mild tones that dripped with sarcasm, tipping her head to one side. "Ya know - seeing the world. What do ya think I'm doing, hmm?" |
