"Hold still," the command was firm and flat-toned with a hint of annoyance at the girl that sat in front of her and to the side of the log. One hand held the female at her lower bicep, right below a single slash in the others arm that was now bleeding down and pooling in the crevasses of her hold. The other hand held the tinted skinning knife in hand, her grip loose yet controlled as she lifted the blade again, the blood running down her forearms in scarlet rivulets.
"Or .. I could get the Beta for you. I'm sure he could give you a much better mark than I could," she said as she laughed shortly, her grin wide and stretched, her eyes glinting with mirth behind her bangs. The girl had been something of a project and interest for her - the rogue girl showing both promise in being useful as well as interest in the Carna group. No matter the girl was a mouse as it didn't matter what shift you were; she had made that clear as her ring-tailed lemur shift. After a recent blackout trip to the labs she came back feeling relatively normal until she shifted, and found herself looking at her form in the water. This vision she had been bestowed by the Keepers had slowly been waning. Only having been roughly eleven days since she had first awoke to the new sensation.
Apparently, their cure was only temporary as the edges of her vision became slightly fuzzed within the past day or so.
Hearing no objection she went back to slashing the sharpened blade across the girls skin twice more. Admiring her work she removed her hand, wiping the blood on the crate and swiping the knife clean on her pant leg before she slid from the trunk. She had wondered what they'd do know that she had initiated the girl into the Carna ... mostly. But she just wanted to have more fun as well.
"I think you should go run and hide ... or just run," she said after a few moments of silence, her head turning to tilt in the other girls direction. "I can even .. cover my eyes if you'd like," she said as she grinned and laughed a little in her own self amusement. When she had met the girl she had been blind .. and the other had known this too .. though she hadn't let on to the other that she could see just yet. It wasn't that she thought she was going to keep it.
"20 ... 19 ... 18 ...," she began as she slowly rose her hands, still slightly tinted red, after sheathing her knife. She cupped her fingers around her eyes as she slowly drawled the numbers, hearing the girl vaguely move; little sound was good. But as she let her eyes close she could see the form of her moving away hurriedly.
She would definitely have fun with this...

Upon Seija’s command, the girl reluctantly held still as her arm stung from the wound. The fresh blood trickled down her forearm, and she had to avoid the sight of it for a few seconds; she was struggling to keep her heart rate down, knowing that the ache would only rise with her pulse. Her pain tolerance had always been extremely low, and it had never been an inconvenience until she’d been placed in the dome. From then on, it had been a constant obstacle that had stared her in the face with every dangerous situation she’d gotten herself into. But there was only room for improvement, and with Seija’s guidance, along with the Carna’s, the dome would quickly start to lose its intimidation factor.
For the longest time, Natalie had been running, avoiding the thought of joining a ring. They were monsters; they were wicked, she’d thought – but at the end of the day, her morals had been corrupted far before the Menagerie, and the rings could only emphasize the slivers of her personality that were already there. Thus, after a while, it’d been an easy option.
As the other girl made a comment about passing the duty off to the Beta, her eyes widened, head shaking softly in protest. She’d spent enough time around the Carna by then to know what the man’s shift was – a lion, of all things. The theory of a quick slash, rather than three, was tempting – but a clean cut by knife would save her pain in the long-run.
“I’ll stay still,” she asserted, forcing her eyes shut momentarily as the next two slashes came in quick succession. Every muscle in her body wanted to writhe and move away from the blade, but she drew in a deep breath instead, filling her lungs in hopes that it would somehow dull the pain. It didn’t. The blood ran freely from the new slices, and she placed a hand over the mark, applying pressure in hopes that it would start clotting soon. Once it seemed like the blood had slowed some, she pulled the sleeve of the sweatshirt back on, instantly relieved by the barrier it provided from the cold. The sweet sound of silence hung in the air for a few moments, being cut short only by her companion’s suggestion – though, calling it a suggestion would imply that there’d been a choice.
I can even cover my eyes if you’d like. The witty remark was amusing, and Natalie rolled her eyes briefly, the corners of her lips forming a mild grin in response to the joke. Covering eyes would do nothing; from the time she’d met the Lead Hunter, she'd informed her of the blindness. With that factored in, it would have almost been an advantage to Natalie, but she knew better than that. Seija’s sense of touch and smell were advanced, almost freakishly at times, and with the scent of fresh blood lingering in the air, she may as well have been wearing a glowing, neon vest.
“Wh–” she piped up, having wanted to point out her obvious disadvantage, but having been cut short as the counting commenced. It was pointless, especially if the whole point of their game was to learn a lesson – things would not always be in her favor; in fact, they hardly ever would be. Reluctantly so, she rose to her feet, slinking away from the log as crazed eyes darted around the clearing, picking the direction of their chase. And then, she was off. No time was wasted as she ran away, since the chances of winning the challenge would only grow with the distance between them. If anything, she took great caution to not disturb the branches and snow around her, since it would only cause more commotion.

Seija trailed off as she hit the number ten, silently counting in her head as she let her hands drop from their place in front of her eyes. She obviously didn't need them as she let her lids close as she stood, a few deep breaths let her take in the metallic smell of the blood that hung in the air before she lifted her blade that still glistened with blood and lifted it just below her nose. She giggled lightly, under her breath, at the prospect of 'hunting' ... though she had to remind herself it was only the girl she was to teach. She could not hurt her .. much.
At that thought she leaned down to wipe the blade on the ground before sheathing it. Staying crouched she turned her nose a bit upward, leaning forward and down as she grumbled in her throat, a pleased sound as she took off in the direction of her charge. Her body stayed low to the ground, her padded feet barely making as much of a light crunch every so often in the mounds of snow. She tried to aim for packed areas of the frozen substance, but it was hard to discern, even with her advanced tremor-vision and all.
Teeth came down on her lower lip as she glanced to her left and then right, slowing as she crouched lower to place her fingertips to the ground. The images came to her from even farther and she breathed deeply once more, her head tilting and slowly turning to the left. Bingo.
She moved forward at a more languid pace this time, shifting in one smooth motion as she passed a thick overgrowth of trees as she pushed underneath ground vegetation to come out into a small clearing. Her signature dual-toned eyes stared blankly, overcast by a cloud of fog as she let her upper lip curl as she let off a few short laughing-quips the hyena was known for. "Come out come out, my little Mus," she called and laughed a bit more as her ears twitched this way and that, her tail stiff and erect behind her as she sauntered this way and that. Wet, canine nose huffed out a breath of cold fog into the air as she caught the mouse-shifters scent off to her right.
Something else caught her attention then, and letting her muscles relax before she turned her eyes away, she bared her canines. Who was it that were trying to sneak up on her? She would be having none of it ..
