PERSONALITY: Stubborn is probably the first word that comes to mind when one is asked to describe Valeria Kazakov. If she doesn’t want to do it then she won’t be doing it. People have a hard time convincing her of things she doesn’t believe and she will stick to her gut instincts even if others are telling her to back down. Val tries her hardest not to let this get in the way of her friendships but, that can often be a tough thing to do. People have been known to attempt to bribe her into doing something they want done. Back in the real world that would have never worked however, now that she’s in the Menagerie her stubbornness has begun to shift a little too. Survival has taken over and she will accept decent portions of food if she needs it. However, her main frame of beliefs still continues to be her guiding force and she would rather give up her life than give up her morals. Valeria, when her stubborn nature is not getting in the way, is truly quite a nice girl. She loves a good laugh and doesn’t mind being at the receiving end of a joke or prank either. Somehow the M has not managed to take away her sense of humour and hopefully it never will. She’s more than happy to just sit around with friends and crack jokes and forget about their other problems. Often her humour is not well received, as she doesn’t always know when to shut up. She has been known to crack a joke in the worst of situations and people do not thank her for that. Despite her joking nature, Val also has a side that not many people see. This side of her is her more devilish side. This side only comes out when people really piss her off, which is quite hard to do. When faced with an enemy Valeria is completely unforgiving and is known to hold a grudge. This also comes into play if you hurt one of her friends. She will not be merciful and will make sure you pay for what you have done. Thankfully, her enemies are not large in number, but people have been warned to watch out for her. Once she’s in a rage, she finds it relatively hard to calm herself down. One of her other less known traits is her self-consciousness. It’s unknown whether this originally stemmed from her teenage years or whether it simply came after she was mutated. Valeria tries with all her might to hide her disfigured arm and her freakish eyes. Her eyes, of course, are difficult to hide. She feels that they put people off, and she feels that she is often inadequate in many aspects. However, she puts on a smile and continues to make jokes for the benefit of others. She can also be quite the romantic but, it’s doubtful that anyone would ever find that out. SECTION IV - SUBJECT BACKGROUND
SUBJECT HISTORY: Valeria was born to Sophia and Caspian Kazakov on the sixth of September, in Moscow. Unfortunately, Val’s misfortune was to start from that very day. Her mother had never been particularly well and the young woman died during childbirth. Her father, however, vowed to raise his baby girl as best as he could. The family was relatively wealthy, and they managed to get by. Caspian enrolled his daughter in one of the best schools, wanting to ensure that her education was as good as it possibly could be. Throughout her young life, Valeria never minded not having a mother. She’d seen pictures of Sophia and had been told many stories by her father and that was good enough to the young girl. She couldn’t understand why people treated her any differently because of it. Valeria got through school well enough. She never got amazing grades but she made friends and that was all she really cared about. She was a naturally social girl and liked pulling pranks and making jokes with her wide circle of friends. It was when she was sixteen that everything changed for her. Val’s father had received another job offer, in America. Forced to pack up and leave everything, the pair travelled to the far away country full of people with strange accents. Val had only ever spoken a small about of English and once she reached America she was forced to learn more and become fluent. The Americans barely understood her accent and even when she was speaking English they hardly ever knew what she was actually saying. Making friends in that foreign country was hard, but she tried as hard as she could to settle in and get through the remainder of high school. Her father never told her what he did. He was a scientist, and she knew that much. It was when she was nineteen that all of the secrets of her family were revealed to her. She had finished school and gone on to study psychology at college. She was still not the brightest, but she passed each of her subjects and continued to improve. Her English got better and people understood her as he accent became less thick and more Americanised. When she was seventeen she discovered the first family secret, the one that her mother had hidden from her father for so many years. She was out late and thought she heard someone following her, at that moment her entire body shuddered and she felt paws instead of hands. Valeria discovered that she was a shifter, and for the next two years she practiced her shifting ability, learning everything she could about ocelots. Caspian noticed his daughter’s shift in personality. When she was nineteen, no longer living at home, he invited her over for dinner, simply to catch up and be a family. Valeria had only just sat down at the table when Caspian told her he knew her secret. So, Val, believing she could trust her father, told him everything. She told him that she could change into an ocelot at will and that she could now control her ability pretty well. She was interested to know if there were more out there. Surprisingly, her father told her there were and he promised to take her to them. That’s when the UNIT team arrived. Val had barely enough time to move before she felt the tranquiliser take effect. Her world went black. Valeria woke up in a sort of cell. She had no idea what was going on and she screamed and screamed for help. For the remainder of that year she was a mess. She blocked out most of the memories from that age, trying to cope with what had happened. The scientists, the Keepers, had experimented on her. They had cut her open and stuck needles into her. They did all kinds of tests and each one was just as painful as the one before it. They kept coming and they kept changing her. She became different every time. First she noticed the ears, and then the fur and patterning down her right arm. Then the world kept coming in and out of focus. She remembered that the Keepers were talking about her eye sight. They said something about the experiments messing with it. She could see most of the time but occasionally her eyes failed to focus. Her eyes became unreliable. But she had no mirror; she could not see what they had really done to her eyes. To her everything looked the way it did when she was in her ocelot form; Valeria could only guess what the scientists had done. But still there were more tests. She screamed at them and begged them to stop. But soon she found that she could hear better, that it made up for her dodgy sight. She thanked them silently for that but still wished that they would kill her and be done with it. The fate she received was worse than death. At age twenty, Valeria was thrown into the Menagerie. In her first few days she found that she was more agile than usual, and once again realised she had the Keepers to thank for that. Val wandered around for about a year and a half, remaining a rogue and staying to herself. It did not take her long to realise that she was an unwanted species amongst the shifters. She was attacked by a Carna and she tried to shift but found she could not. If it weren’t for another anthropomorph she would have died. The other anthro told her about everything: the Menagerie, the Keepers, the Legend of the Fallen Beast and the Nakoma that had recently formed. She was taken to them and permitted to join their ranks as an outrider. That is where Valeria has been ever since and that is where she plans to stay. SECTION V - OOC INFORMATION
