Sometimes the wire must tense for the note
Caught in the fire, say oh
We're about to explode...
Lush vegetation and trees that reached the sky, this is where Daisy found herself. Emerald green, with sunlight filtering through the canopy. The cool climate was cold to her heat-worn skin. The smell was fresh to her nose. Everything was so moist. It was an entirely strange atmosphere, whilst being breath-taking at the same time. Stopping to pause and check her perimeter she could not help herself kneeling down to grasp hold of the cool earth and run it through her fingers. She heard a noise in distance, a branch falling to the ground, or perhaps one snapping. She shrunk lower behind a green shrub, her eyes peeled in the direction of the noise.
She had raided an empty hut a few hours earlier, taking a few dire survival requirements. Some food, mostly dried out. It was clear the hut was occupied, but she had been lucky enough to stumble across it when nobody was near by. She had seen tracks, fresh tracks. In all honesty- she had been stealty, went in and went out. Only taking what she needed to tie her over until she could get back to Fallen territory. She was still a Rogue, but having been sheltered and amongst the Fallen-- it had almost become a second home. But she was not considered part of the Fallen just yet. Although to somebody else she appear like a spy.
Daisy had worked hard to try and rid herself of the Fallen scent. Swimming in streams, rolling in dirt, bathing in mud. But, even she knew just how strong an animals' sense of smell was. It was far more heightened than an average human. They could smell things from weeks ago. She did have to be careful, but even that was not her forte.
The forest was cold, and even in her gear she could feel it nibbling at her skin. She could feel a ray of sun creeping down onto her leg from the canopy. It's warmth did make her feel a little home sick. Without moving her petite body, her eyes flickered around her perimter for a little. Until she felt she was not being watched, nor in any danger- she did not move. Standing, she looked back in the direction she was heading. Now, she was not from here. She couldn't really read the navigation through the forest. Despite her gut instinct she stayed off the paths, so really... she was just following a somewhat foolish sense of direction, hoping that perhaps she was not quite useless at all. She had gotten herself this far right?
Her pockets were full with provisions, and she had a canteen that was half full in which she had borrowed from Aiden. But here, she did not feel so thirsty and was conserving every last drop until she really needed it. Another handy tip from the Fallen. Back home, in the outside- her family had lived quite close to a well, so they had an endless supply of water. She had not really learnt to ration.
She was not used to having to deal with so much vegetation in her path, and was perhaps not the quietest traveller- but being a tiny figure, it gave her some advantage in being quiet. She kept walking, ignoring the blister that had arrived on her ankle from her shoes. A few hours passed of her tolerating the sting, but she needed to stop. Up ahead the trees seemed to thin, and there was not so much darkness. A clearing could be seen. Somewhere she could soak up the sun rays. She had begun to miss just walking in the sun, and feeling the heat warm her body.
At the edge of the clearing she found a boulder. It was a nice boulder. She could sit atop and rest, and soak up the warm rays that begun to kiss her golden skin. Her position above the smooth rock gave her a clear view of all in the clearing... but she was alone. On this nice sunny day... the meadow had nothing. No life, well maybe a butterfly or two. She yawned and stretched, laying down on her back to gaze at the clouds as they drifted past.
Being alone most of the time, she did not allow herself to be consumed by memories or grief- if anything she tried ever so hard to block out the past. Isolate herself from it. Almost like flicking off her humanity switch. She did not want to feel everything she had felt that day. She did not want her family to see her this way. They were probably watching now too... to see if her and Vandy were ok.
Laying against the warm rock she could feel her core warming up... and she relaxed...
Some saw the sun
Some saw the smoke...
Some heard the gun
Some bent the bow...
Caught in the fire, say oh
We're about to explode...
