PERSONALITY: Maya acts much like one would expect of a typical child. She's impish, playful, and bright. She's not what one might consider spoiled, guided by the firm and harsh realities that the Dome has provided since she was very small. It also perhaps helped to be raised by a man like Boone Haywood who was strict to ensure her safety. She has a rather inquisitive nature, easily lured in to situations that may or may not turn out to be dangerous. She is very protective of her Moo Cow, a stuffed cow that Mama gave to her just nights before she was gone. Moo Cow is a bit burnt, and has gotten dirty/bloody over the years. She used to carry the cow everywhere for protection when Papa was not around, but now she fears losing her so she stays at 'home' in her bed with the Fallen. Maya misses her Papa and Uncle Digg very much, and is counting down the days that she might be allowed to go home with Papa; but she's also fiercely loyal to her family group in the Fallen. She has this idea to convince Papa to come live in the Fallen with her, but it doesn't go over well very often. When this little girl gets mad, she can stay mad for quite some time! She's a feisty little grudge holder, and gets her stubborness from her Papa. She is slow to anger and slow to forgive, having quite the patience streak for her age. She hates when she gets in trouble, and often tries to avoid authority all together just so she won't get into trouble. She has a bad habit of venturing away from the Fallen, which is the thing that gets in her the most trouble. She's a leader, never a follower, and is often the first blamed for anything that goes on with the other whelps. SECTION IV - SUBJECT BACKGROUND
SUBJECT HISTORY: Camilla married Estavan Hernandez under false pretenses. He portrayed himself to be an important business man, with connections in Madrid and Barcelona. He charmed the young Spanish flower, eventually marrying her. His lie went on for a time yet, buying them a fancy house with money that he borrowed from his colleagues. He would disappear for days at a time, but returned with unexplainable amounts of money that he would squander away. Within five years, they had three children under the age of four. Pressured by his growing family, Estavan found himself deeper into the drug selling game; but with higher risks....came higher stakes. On one of his dealings, he unknowingly sold to an undercover agent and in further unfortunate circumstances it was one who could not be bought off to walk away. Estavan went to jail for sixteen years, but did not make it past six months. The organization he had worked for silenced him, in order to keep him from spilling all of their secrets. Around the same time, Camilla lost the house, seized by the federals, that had been bought with dirty money which forced her three children out in the streets. She became desperate, desperate to feed her ninos. It was difficult however, because even though they were homeless, even though they had next to nothing to their name...the organization came to rake them across the coals for the money the Estavan had owed them. They gave the young mother just weeks to scrounge up the money, weeks that dwindled into days. She did not know what to do, how to protect the young children. Camilla was also unaware of another secret, a secret that her husband had also been unaware of. Estavan's mother was one of those shifters, one of those animals that the UNIT had been searching for the last couple of years. There were free clinics, clinics that gave out medicine and food in hopes of luring the poorer population in to be tested for the shifting gene. Camilla went to them, holding her two year old Maya, and her three and four year old clinging to her skirts. They were a sight to be seen, dirty little faces, eyes full of hunger. For one day they were fed and medicated, needing to held in order for the results to come back. It was discovered that the baby, little Maya, was the only one of the family who possessed the gene. The UNIT wanted her, but Camilla refused. Her daughter was not a monster, her daughter was not one of those...those things! Typically, at such a point, UNIT simply took what they wanted but for reasons unknown Dr. Mardinov, the leader of the operation took a different approach. A thousand dollars for the child, a thousand dollars to appease the men of her husband's organization for a time. He spewed lies about the project, claiming that it would give the little girl a far better life than the one she could have here...growing up on the streets. Camilla hesitated but ultimately turned the child over to the doctors, taking the bribe she was offered. She was unknowingly to be followed, her family tagged by the UNIT as possible shifter gene carriers and to this day are kept in a file to be looked in upon every few years. Maya was unfortunately too young to remember much of this, her first conscious memories being inside the dome. Taken with the Dr. who had negotiated her terms, she was delivered unto the Keeper's care at a little over two years old. They kept her in testing for a year, but she was so young that most of these memories have been repressed. Eventually, they placed the young shifter inside the dome, in a prime location where any number of individuals might find her. However, surprisingly enough to them, her cries brought a young woman to her, a rogue who had been a mother before being taken in by the UNIT. She carried her back to the group, taking the toddler in as her own. For a time there was peace in her life, with her new Mama. These rogues were a relatively small group, with about six full grown adults and little Maya. Providing for everyone was not always easy, and the group took turns making little raids of some of the bigger ring's supplies in order to survive. Every so often they would find their way to the Fallen, Fulsi, Carna or Bestia depending on how lax the security was. Sometimes, they traded, other times they stole what they could. It was one such raid on the Carna that would be disastrous for them all. The take had been quite large for them. Food, supplies, weapons, even a little medicine. It had been like Christmas for them all, and for a few days things seemed like they would be going their way. Unfortunately, one does not simply steal from the Carna. A counter raid was lead against the small group of rogues. Young Maya, tucked in to bed for the night with Mama barely registered the sounds of fighting in her sleepy state. She remembers being warm...too warm, waking up with a scream that was choked by smoke. Fire licked at her clothes, burning her, her scream piercing above all the noise. There was a rustle, a huge form barging in to her tent, grabbing her up quickly and beating the flames off her clothes as they carried her outside. She was crying in fear and pain, clinging to the form that she thought was her Mama, the smoke choking her and making her eyes weep more. "Mama!" Her little voice had cried in Spanish, "Mamá, me duele!" (Mom, it hurts!). She looked up, but found that the person holding her was indeed not her mama. Not even someone she had come to know in the group. A stranger. But the stranger had spoken to her, in Spanish, and she had trusted him...unaware that her mama lay dead a few feet away because of him. Unsure of what was going on, she was taken by the stranger rather than left behind like another might have done. He cared for her, raising her like he might have raised his own children had he had the chance. He became her Papa Boone, and she gained a new family in him to the point that she Mama mostly faded from her memory. When the wars came, Papa made her stay with Uncle Digg and Aunt Clementine; both of whom were rogues that she saw every so often. She did not like being away from her papa, but he would have been mad if she didn't listen to him. Uncle Digg was one of her favorites though, and he looked just like Papa except he was more 'fun' than Papa was. Aunt Clem helped watch out for her too, until Boone decided that rogue life was not good for a little girl either. Carna life was bad for her. Rogue life was bad for her; so he left her at the Fallen border, leaving her for one of the hunters to find. They were a gentle group, very family oriented, and Boone knew that she would be welcome there. She had cried, clinging to his leg when he tried to leave her, but he had only to give a firm order that she stay and she did. He, of course, watched from nearby to ensure she was found but it absolutely broke her heart that he was leaving her alone. Boone was right though, and she was picked up by one of the hunters who took her back to the group. She's lived with the Fallen since she was four and a half; taken in without reservation. The visits did not start occurring until she was five, and it just so happened that he saw her near the outskirts where she was playing with her teacher and her friends. He snatched her off her feet, a terrifying moment really, but as soon as she realized who was hiding in the bushes with her...she was more than excited. Her Papa! She had missed him so much! He started to visit occasionally, sometimes bringing her things, other times just to check on her. As she got older, he told her that she must not talk about his visits because they could both get in to trouble and she understood. But that wouldn't keep her from talking about her Papa who loved her very much. Adelina Russovo eventually picked up on this relationship, but rather than using the information to hurt the pair, she started to help them. So, Maya has grown up in the Fallen, but is torn between the ring and her Papa. She is also unaware that he is the one who killed the woman she had come to know as her Mama, and this is certain to drive a wedge between them sooner or later. SECTION V - OOC INFORMATION
