The only thing Ace was aware of was the intense stinging in his eyes. The boy clawed at them, rolling around the metal cage, not noticing the screams that were coming from his lips. Days passed and finally the pain had receded until it was no more than a distant echo. Despite this, the boy couldn’t help but feel like something was terribly wrong. Last time he had been dragged into the Keepers’ lair he had been put through excruciating tests and then walked away with healing. This time though it seemed different. He could have anything at all now and he had heard about some very strange abilities during his time in the Menagerie. Ace tried to tell himself that instead that what he had been given would be something helpful; he just needed to be able to survive. Finally he was dragged out of the cage by one of the Keepers. The bandages were removed from his eyes, but Ace struggled to open them. They were moving then, but he didn’t know were to. He heard one of the Keepers asking about where he should be dumped. “This one’s a Fulsi,” came the reply, and then they were walking again. Ace was briefly away of a sharp pain in his shoulder as a needle was jabbed into him. The hand that clutched him was still firm on his arm. “Hope you can find your way home,” the Keeper laughed before shoving him to the ground. Ace’s eyes remained closed but he slowly closed up the small needle wound with his healing. After sitting completely still for a few minutes, Ace finally decided he needed to work out what they had done to him. Slowly, he began to force his eyelids open. The first thing he noticed was the painful bright lights that clouded his vision. Crying out in pain, Ace immediately shielded his face with his arm. “Oh shit. What the hell did they do?” Blinking a few times, the shifter tried to see if his eyes would go back to normal. When they didn’t he instead looked around himself, still keeping his eyes shielded from what he assumed to be the midday sun. He managed to make out the strange colour and shape of Iron Curtain. Thank God they left me here, he thought, thankful to at least be in Fulsi territory. Despite this, he was vulnerable and there could still be dangerous creatures wandering the streets. As Ace rose from the ground his legs nearly gave way again and he stumbled forwards a little. He was not used to having to walk after such a long time in one of the Keeper cages. The boy tried to make his way towards the old cinema, one hand protecting his eyes from the sun, and the other stretched out in front of himself as a guide. As his fingers brushed against the false bricks in the structure, Ace smiled in relief. However, he soon realised he was on the wrong side of the building and there was no entry point. He was also in no shape to be trying to find the correct side and the door when he could still barely see and his eyes were beginning to sting again. Cursing once more, Ace turned and leaned against the building, sliding down so he was crouched against it. Leaning his head against the wall, Ace closed his eyes, less than prepared for any possible danger that might befall him. |
