Desert sands danced along side a very lost man. New to the Fallen territory - let alone the Menagerie - finding anything was difficult for the new prisoner. People trained him the best they could to help him out yet it would still take time for Edmund to find his way. To be a Scout and lost in the desert was quite ironic, pathetic, and sad at the same time. By the position of the sun Edmund was able to tell that it would be about noon. Light colored sand reflected the rays of the sun into Edmund's eyes making it even more troubling to find his way to his destination... the Oasis.
A bit of fear struck him as he looked around and the only thing he could see was sand, more sand, and just a lot more sand. "Hahahaha, lucky me to get myself lost in a desert. Guess my time here won't last long. Crap, I'm talking to myself. That's not good." Kneeling down to get into a comfortable sitting position Edmund decided it was best to take a break since wandering around aimlessly was not doing much for him anyway.
Lost in thought all Edmund could think about how his life ended up to the point that it did. To come from a very rich home to then end up captured like an animal was absolutely humiliating. Blood slightly dripped down his lip as he bit it a little too hard in frustration. Without hesitation he just kept pounding the ground with his fists in anger like a child throwing a temper tantrum for not getting what he wants.
A large shadow hovered over Edmund knocked him out of his childish trance. Still barely able to look up because of the sun it looked like a very large vulture was flying over him waiting for death to take him in it's firm grasp. Well... shit. Looks like I'm done for now."

It had been ages since Sascha had been out to the desert Oasis, and even longer since he'd braved the bright skies of high noon. His eyes watered from the sheer amount of sunlight reflecting off the sands far below. Even though the rest of the dome was content with the chill of the oncoming autumn the desert was still plagued with heat, and even Sascha had trouble breathing in the swelter. It wasn't long before he felt himself slowing, to where each beat of his wings felt like an enormous effort--it had never been an easy thing, flying. But this heat made it about a hundred times worse.
Sascha was comforted by the thought that at least the Oasis wasn't too far--about another 20 minutes of high flying and occasional thermal riding and he'd be there. Then he could dive head first into the crystal blue waters and possibly take a few fruits back for Fletcher and Casey who were waiting back a the Inn. They weren't expecting him back till nightfall at the earliest, so he decided he could take his time and try to enjoy the scenic view far below. It got boring pretty fast though and soon all the rolling dunes and occasional tree started to look the same. He was about to give up hope at catching sight of anything interesting when he saw what seemed to be a speck, better yet a speck that seemed to be moving.
Sascha's interest was immediately piqued and he glided lower for a better view. He figured it was just another Fallen heading back from the Oasis and on towards camp though, and kept moving. He kept flying for a moment or so before he realized that the speck had been moving in the wrong direction. Away from both the train and the Oasis, the person was headed further out into the desert. A frown of concern creased Sascha's face, one pointed fang poking from between his lips as he thought it over. Part of him wanted to press on and ignore what could easily be an enemy, and he could hear Casey's voice of warning in his head. He had too much he was responsible for to risk himself helping others. But part of him knew that if he was right, and he let that person get lost in the desert...
He drew in a deep breath and tucked his wings, falling into a steep dive towards the desert floor. He snapped his wings open a few hundred feet above and glided down into a gentle jog as his feet touched the sand. Even through the soles of his shoes (though admittedly they were worn pretty thi) he could feel the heat of the sand. "It is too damned hot," he muttered in Romanian before he slowly turned and looked at the man seated on the ground just a few feet behind him. Sascha walked forward, cautiously approaching him with his hands at his side, palms held up and facing outward to show that he meant no harm. "Hello," he said. "I am Sascha. You are lost?"

Just in one second Edmund's world was turned upside down. The existence of shifters seems odd, to be one is stranger, and then to be a half-breed seemed impossible to Edmund. In this day in age Edmund knew nothing was impossible anymore yet things continuously took him by surprise. Completely in awe, the Fallen Scout took in the image of the man he saw before him. Bat like wings spread wide across the stranger which would take the biggest attention for most people. For Edmund, the man's face and torso looked a lot more interesting. A sly grin spread across his face that he could not hold back for even a second.
Took a moment to Edmund to realize he was gawking at the man that was being sincere. Pushing himself off the ground to a standing position Edmund copied the hand gesture to show he meant no harm as well. "I'm Edmund. Yes, I am lost." It seemed obvious to Edmund that Sascha was looking at his lips to understand the language he was speaking. Romanian was the first words spoken so the Fallen Scout took into note that Romanian was Sascha's first language. Besides English Edmund spoke Romanian, Gaelic, Polish, and French. Coming from a family with a lot of money was the key to his education.
"I assume you're fluent in Romanian? I'm new to the Fallen and I was traveling to the Oasis." With a friendly laugh Edmund rubbed his own head in embarrassment at his own misfortune. By any chance would you be able to direct me in the right location? All he hoped was that his new acquaintance would be able to show him the way and that he would never want to put a shirt on ever again.

The few moments of awkward silence following Sascha's introduction only seemed to add to the heaviness of the stifling desert heat. He felt Edmund's eyes wandering over his wings, scrutinizing every freakish detail. He felt himself instinctively taking a step back as the man's eyes bored into him, asking a million questions; but where Sascha expected to see fear and disgust he saw something else--what Sascha guessed was some weird fascination. Sascha was tempted to return the gaze, but he was too nervous, and he found himself talking without thinking. "You are hot," he said, noticing Edmund's flushed complexion, still plopped on the ground in what looked to be exhaustion. "Wait, I meant...you look hot," he paused, frustrated that it still wasn't sounding right. He sighed in frustration and shrugged, "...do you need water?"
He caught the man's quick smile and found himself grinning wide in return, and he was about to say "nice to meet you" when a tumble of familiar words spilled out from Edmund's lips; words he hadn't heard in about seven years: Sascha's eyes widened in shock as Edmund spoke, of all things, Romanian. He could barely contain the burst of laughter that erupted from him in his excitement as he rushed forward and clasped hands with Edmund and shook vigorously, nodding in dumb shock.
It took him a few seconds to get his wits about him, but he regained quickly. "Oh my God!" he rasped, realizing he was still shaking Edmund's hand he let go with a laugh. "I'm sorry, my friend! It has just been so long since I've heard anyone talk in my native tongue. It has been years too long!" he said, barely able to contain his excitement. He hadn't held a normal conversation where he could actually understand everything that was being said, and the person could actually understand him!
"You said you were new to the Fallen, yes? And lost? Perhaps I could be of some help to you," Sascha said. "I know the way to the Oasis. It isn't too far from here if you're up for a bit of a walk." He paused, unsure of how to go about guiding Edmund to the Oasis without incriminating himself of trespassing and potential theft. But the opportunity of good conversation was just too hard to pass up. "I am not a member of the FallenRing but we are allies, of a sort. I have been to the Oasis a few times for trading." It wasn't exactly a lie. Sascha couldn't keep himself from grinning as he started off towards the Oasis, more than content to spend a few more minutes in the company of this man. He was easy on the ears and as he gave him a quick once over, found he was easy on the eyes as well. It was then he noticed the spots of blood on Edmund's face and his brows furrowed in a mix of concern, his stomach twisting in a mix of nausea and pang of hunger. He cleared his throat and glanced at the sand again, trying not to think of how his blood would taste, and the fact that he hadn't fed in a while. "Soo...how 'new' is 'new'? Did they keep you in the laboratory for a few years, or are you just fresh out of the cells?" He asked, trying to keep his mind off the slow trickle of blood just a few feet from him.

As soon as the accidental compliment came out of Sascha's mouth Edmund felt his cheeks becoming hotter with a mixture of flattery, embarrassment, and arousal all in one go.With a comment like that the Fallen Scout definitely could not look away with the chance of getting to know this man on a... physical level. Almost dumb founded by what was spoken to him Edmund nearly forgot to even say something in return. ""Yes, I definitely need water. I've traveled way too long and I'm becoming dehydrated," he managed to say.
The sweat dripping down his face at first was due to the heat of the desert. Now, it changed to the internal heat of lust that seemed to have taken him over in it's chains keeping him locked on the unusual, attractive man in front of him. Within a second he snapped out of his dreamlike state as Sascha rushed towards him shaking his hand. Edmund did not expect the sudden interest from the Anthro just because of knowing the Romanian language. A chuckle escaped from him as he heard Sascha's enthusiastic laughter.
Years?!?! Edmund thought following with a look of bewilderment spread across his face. The idea of being in the Menagerie for years began to shake Edmund in fear a little bit. It never really crossed his mind that he would never be leaving. Reality suddenly slapped him across the face. Denial was not an option anymore. Shaking the thoughts away to focus on the here and now Edmund let out another chuckle to attempt to erase the chance of making an awkward moment.
"Yes, I'm..." he paused mid sentence realizing that wasn't the right language he planned on using. "I'm brand spanking new to the Fallen and definitely lost. Thank you for offering to guide me in the right direction," he responded with a bit too much excitement than usual. "Doesn't look like I have much of a choice to take a bit of a walk. Having a good looking... I mean good guide would definitely save me from a lot of unnecessary trouble."
Hearing about allies and trading sounded a bit odd to hear. Survival of the fittest... he thought to himself as another slap of reality reared it's ugly head once more. "Fallen Ring or no Fallen Ring I hope we make a good union of being each other's allies throughout the Menagerie." Edmund stated as he strolled along side of Sascha with his hands in his pockets as if it was not an odd picture or conversation to see and hear in the outside world.
"New?" he questioned. Edmund lost a track of time awhile back, but he at least recognized that he most definitely has not been in the Menagerie as long as others just like Sascha. "I don't think they kept me in their hell hole for years. I'm going to estimate they kept me for about three months give or take." Thinking about being in the laboratory bothered him so Edmund tried to change the subject and focus on Sascha.
It took the Fallen Scout a few seconds to think of a question, "So... how do you like it here?"Thinking of small talk was a bit harder than he expected and felt dumb for asking such a stupid question. Who the hell would like it here? Edmund mentally yelled at himself. "Do you ever just walk around naked for fun? Sounds like fun to me."
OH. MY. FREAKING. GOD. he began to yell at himself inside his head even louder. "How much longer till we're at the Oasis?" Edmund spewed out as a last resort.
Ugh.
ooc: Didn't realize Edmund was going to be so awkward. LOL.

"I think I have some water left," Sascha said, and after a momentary battle of wrangling of wings into place he managed to fish a small flask from the pocket of his pants, and handed it over to Edmund with a grin. "I am sorry it isn't much, I was on my way to the Oasis to fill up," he said. "You can finish it off, you definitely need it more than me." They continued on their trek, though Sascha had to remind himself to keep his pace slow for the Fallen; he was new to the terrain and dehydrated but Sascha couldn't help the bounce in his step. To finally be clearly understood, to speak without having to deliberate if he was using the right word or blush when he came out sounding like an idiot was an amazing feeling.
Sascha noticed the brief look of fear flash over Edmund's face when Sascha mentioned how long it had been since he'd spoken to another Romanian. He was confused as to why that would cause fear, until he realized that he was new. It took Sascha moment to realize that what had become perfectly normal to him was entirely novel to Edmund: the workings of the dome, the labs, the experiments, the freakish creatures like himself...the acceptance that there was no escape, that the Menagerie was the last place you'd ever see. It was a sobering thought, to say the least--but Edmund didn't bring it up, and swept away the slight frown that had creased Sascha's face with a soft laugh. "...Doesn't look like I have much of a choice to take a bit of a walk. Having a good looking... I mean good guide would definitely save me from a lot of unnecessary trouble..."
"It's no problem, really. I couldn't very well leave someone to get lost in this proverbial frying pan," Sascha said with a grin and gave an awkward, short bark of a laugh as he tried to swallow the flutter of excitement in his chest; this man thought he was good looking? He felt a rush of heat and a flush of color to his cheeks as brief mix of pleasure and shame overtook him at the compliment. He didn't believe that people could think that about him anymore; it wasn't possible, not when he could barely stand himself. Casey always said he was beautiful, inside and out but Sascha knew it was just comforting words. He didn't think that most could learn to look past the deformities sprouting from his back, or the vicious hunger that gnawed at him from deep within, deeper than just that basic instinct to fill one's belly.
He snapped back to Edmund as he spoke again, this time of being allies. He grinned, long slender fangs protruding slightly. "Allies indeed!" he said with a laugh. "As if I'd ever let you get away, it took me seven years to find you, after all. I'd never find anyone else to talk to!" He paused, not realizing until it was too late that asking about the labs was a stupid question. He didn't particularly enjoy thinking about the labs himself, although there were a few Keepers that he liked, and had shown him kindness. But the pain the memories conjured up was almost palpable, and he knew it wasn't a stretch that Edmund might be feeling the same. "I'm sorry," he said after a moment, sensing Edmund's discomfort. "I know it can be hard to talk about. I was in the labs for years, growing these monstrosities." he said, motioning to the wings sprouting from his back. "But we are here now, yes? We made it through, faced worst of it. Now we just have to face each other," he said with a slight, knowing smile tinged with sadness. He knew there were people who wouldn't have stopped to help Edmund--and if they had stopped, they probably would've robbed him and left him for dead.
Edmund's next question gave him pause; it brought a heaviness to Sascha's chest as he weighed the answer, a deep sadness that seeped into desperation, threatening to draw him under. But only a few moments of silenced passed before Edmund had him bursting out in laughter. "Naked? In public?" he said with a slight wheeze as he tried to get a handle on himself. He wasn't sure why he found it so hilarious--probably because it was one of the more absurd questions he'd been asked and he couldn't help but visualize the screeches he'd get if he did. A giant-winged naked man strutting around didn't exactly say "I'm a perfectly sane person! Let's be friends!" "I don't think I've ever stripped down to my skivvies, no. But as you can see, I don't bother to wear shirts anymore. Everyone just kept asking me to take them off so I figured, why even bother putting one on?" He said with a grin, surprised at his own sudden burst of confidence. He'd never thought of himself as attractive, and never admitted to such a thing; he gave Edmund a timid smile when he realized exactly what he'd said. He rubbed his hands on his face, covering his mouth and cheeks in attempts to hide his embarrassment.
Sascha cleared his throat and nodded to the subtle ripple of shapes and shadows in the distance. "About another twenty minutes, give or take." he answered. "You doing okay?" he asked, brows furrowed in concern.

Each drop of water that trickled down his throat from Sascha's flask was intoxicating from being dehydrated. "Thank you so much." he said while letting out a sigh of relief right after. To come from a rich home to being stuck in a bubble of terror was not that easy of an adjustment. Everybody in the Fallen was very nice and welcoming, but it still did not comfort the constant anxiety resting in his chest. To meet Sascha in the Fallen Scout's time of need was the first time Edmund felt relaxed compared to being on edge. Edmund knew he was lucky to find a nice person that did not belong to the Fallen and he was one hundred percent grateful.
Without even realizing it at first Edmund noticed how close he was in distance to Sascha as they continued their journey. At first he was about to walk a bit farther from him, but he decided against it in hopes of something more to happen. A stupid grin plastered across his face as he noticed the Anthro's cheeks began to to turn red from the compliment. "Proverbial frying pan... never thought of it that way. Completely accurate, though. If the Keepers provided bacon and eggs on a daily basis I wouldn't mind being here as much." he said with a slight chuckle. "That had to be the dumbest thing I've ever said." he mockingly thought. Hearing Sascha's laughter started to feel comforting as it seemed the Anthro was easily amused.
"As if I'd ever let you get away, it took me seven years to find you, after all. I'd never find anyone else to talk to!"
"I don't see a reason why I'd leave you any time soon. Besides speaking Romanian I think we have a great connection on a whole other level," he responded with a quick wink and a subtle smirk. "Just pretend like your stomach didn't fall out your ass hoping he doesn't fly away leaving you stranded for being a creep." Edmund tried to be a little more on the blunt side to show his definite interest in the man walking next to him. He knew there may never be a chance of them reuniting due to the Anthro being a Rogue and himself being attached to the Fallen. There appeared to be no real technology for anyone to communicate so it was not as if he could just call him up in an instant to invite him over for a cup of coffee and to have "fun" on a big comfortable bed.
"No need to apologize," he quickly responded to comfort any regret spoken. It made Edmund sad and sympathetic to hear Sascha speak so harshly of himself over his bat wings. Surely it was different, but they did not plant any stigma towards the Anthro's being for Edmund. "Monstrosities?" he questioned with a quizzical look. "Definitely not. They're apart of you just as naturally as I being a shifter. Without them I would be dead right now. In my eyes they're a gift."
Edmund was glad he did not embarrass himself as Sascha took his question to be entertaining. There also appeared to be a clear consensus that Sascha should stay shirtless. "Why putting a shirt on is a good question. I'll join you." Grabbing the bottom of his shirt Edmund slowly peeled it off his body as it was completely soaked in sweat. His torso glistened as sweat continuously dripped down his body. Tattoos covered his upper body which Edmund was proud to wear with honor. He tucked in his bottom right pocket just in case he needed to use both hands. "God, I hope showing the goods will show a bit more confidence just like Sascha."
"Am I okay?" he mentally asked himself. The question was obviously directed towards his behavior, but his mind took it a step further. "I'm doing fine. Twenty minutes isn't a big deal and with you as my guide it makes the journey enjoyable." he stated with a sincere smile. There was still that part of him that was not okay and Edmund wanted to touch Sascha to feel some kind of comfort. The only physical contact he previously had were with all sorts of machinery probing him and restraints keeping him in place. The desire to feel a warm body pressed against his own was strong. Even the heat couldn't burn it's way to shattering that desire.
At this point Edmund was completely unaware of his surroundings as he focused his full attention on Sascha. "Is the Oasis only good for drinking water or are you able to swim in it? To soak my body in actual water compared to my sweat sounds like heaven," he said with enthusiasm. All he hoped was that Sascha would say yes as it would be a good chance to make some kind of move. Edmund felt as though he was totally perving on him and knew that's exactly what was happening. "Lord help me I've become a total pervert." he thought in a pleading tone.
Trotting ahead and facing back towards Sascha a good yard away while walking backwards he felt the need to look him dead on. To cover up his motives he said, "Have you ever faced a Carna head on just like the position we're in now? I heard they can be scary and I'd like to know what may be a good technique to fight them off this close." The Fallen Scout didn't know if his question sounded relevant so he tried his best to make it sound right. "A Carna could have found me first so I may as well learn something."
Due to not paying attention around him Edmund tripped falling backwards on a decently big rock. By instinct Edmund reached forward to grab onto something which happened to be Sascha's hand. The Anthro was just close enough in reach to bring him down with him having Sascha land right on top of him. Edmund looked down in embarrassment as he had Sascha's face laying flat again the middle of his torso."Sorry..." he muttered as the man of his lustful desires was way closer to physical contact than he expected.
"Oh my God I just ruined EVERYTHING!"
ooc: I hope you like it. >.<'

Sascha watched Edmund from behind olive green eyes, squinting in the bright sun. He wasn’t sure what to say to say to Edmund’s acceptance of the wings. He didn’t quite know how to feel about it, someone calling his wings gifts. He supposed in some aspects, they were. But mostly they made him a target. People always thought he was a freak, or worse yet, a virus. To him his wings had been just another sign of his status in life, a symbol of how far below the world he was, and deserved to stay.
He just gave Edmund an almost pained smile, bobbing his head in a loose nod. “Thank you,” he said, voice wavering with a slight tremble. He wasn’t used to anyone but Casey saying kind things to him, and to have a stranger like Edmund judge him so gently … Sascha’s eyes flickered to Edmund’s suddenly bare skin, nearly tripping over his feet. He was drawn instantly into the intricate patterns traced on his skin. He had markings like that once before, just a flash on a rogue woman’s arm as she tried to stab him, and if he hadn’t been busy fleeing for his life he would’ve liked to inspect them.
“You can swim in the water, yes. It’s very refreshing, I hear.” He said with a sheepish grin. He wasn’t supposed to be at the oasis at all, or even here talking to Edmund. He was still a trespasser, and tried to be careful even though Edmund seemed very friendly indeed. He was drawn back to the wonderfully colorful marks on his skin, and without thought he moved close to Edmund’s side as they kept walking, trying not to crane his neck to see around his bulky wings to see the strange paintings on his skin. “Those are beautiful,” he said, pointing to them. “Aren’t you worried your paintings will wash off in the water, though?”
He laughed when Edmund loped ahead and started walking backward, pointed fangs flashing in the desert sun. “I’m afraid I’m of little to no use to you in that department. I’ve faced Carna more times than I can count, but I always managed to fly away before they could do real damage. I’d suggest that to you, but …” he motioned to Edmund’s bare back. “It seems you’re without that, ah, particular option of escape.” He said. His eyes flicked to the rock behind Edmund, and was about to call out a warning. He was a mite too late, though, and he reached out a hand to try and Edmund as he pitched forward, expecting to stop them from landing headlong into the sand. Edmund’s momentum being what it was, however, it was headlong into the sand they went. They fell in an uncomfortable tangle of limbs, wings and hot sand. Sascha grunted as he toppled onto Edmund, trying to brace his fall with arms on either side of Edmund’s body. He was laughing before anything else, though his laugh quieted when he found himself staring down into Edmund’s eyes. They seemed soft and kind, and a little sad. He wasn’t bothered by the sudden closeness, or the heat of the sun beating down on their entangled limbs causing clothes to cling to his skin with slick sweat. His arms and hands were coated in the orange grains of sand, but that’s not what he was focused on.
His eyes skimmed down the length of Edmund’s neck, his fingers reaching to trace the patterns inked into his skin. He skimmed his fingertips over the paint and inspected them for any marks. It wasn’t paint, then. Curiosity not entirely sated, Sascha sat up slightly and trailed his fingers over the lines and curves of the designs ‘til they led him back up to Edmund’s face. “Beautiful,” he murmured with a grin. “Don’t apologize.” All he could think about was this man, this stranger who had called his wings a gift, had seen them, had seen him as something other than a monster. And before he knew entirely what he was doing, his lips were capturing Edmund’s in a sudden, feverish kiss. His lips brushed against the scruff of Edmund's cheek as he pulled away, panting for breath. "We should get to the Oasis," he said after a moment, but the feel of Edmund's skin against his, the taste of him still on his lips and the gentleness in which Edmund held him against him, Sascha knew they wouldn't get far.
