We no longer require a password to post a character application. However, you are still responsible for reading and following these rules. If you have any questions at all, please post in the questions board or a staff member! Rules are subject to change, and members will be notified if rules are updated.
01. We have a one account per character. Please create an OOC (out of character) account first so we can identify you. This will be your main forum account so we can keep track of points and prizes and the like! Then, register a separate account for your character(s), which must be your character's name or common nickname e.g.: John Wayne, John "The Duke" Wayne, etc.
Once you have your OOC account, you can link all of your individual character accounts to the OOC account, and use the handy-dandy 'Switch Account' tool on the bottom right-hand of your screen (or the navigation link on the top of the forum banner :) )
02. Please only use letters in your account username, not numbers. Example, if your username is Ghost5519, please just use Ghost. Symbols are fine, just don't go overboard :]
03. You may have as many characters as your heart desires, as long as you can keep them active and under control. You can always Archive inactive characters and bring them back at a later time. Your wish is our command.
04. Every few months we will hold an Activity Check. Any members who do not reply to said activity check will have all their accounts ARCHIVED. Both their OOC and any character accounts will have the rank changed to "ARCHIVED" and their information will be removed from our various claims lists and Member Directory.
If at any time a member who has been Archived decides to return, all you have to do is post in the INFORMATION UPDATE thread with your character(s) and account(s) information and all your accounts and characters will be restored! You will have access to your CP and items. However, if in the mean time your character's Face Claim or Name have been taken, you cannot get them back.
If you quit the site all your accounts and information will be deleted and you forfeit any claim to your items.

Get futuristic! The role play is set 300 years in the future - almost anything is possible! If you have any questions about restrictions of a character, just ask an admin!
05. The rp is set in a city where there is no electricity . They have little food, and usually only own one pair of clothes. They also don't have running water - so, they aren't running around with perfect faces, makeup and perfect hair. Remember that!
06. Your character can initially shift into only one animal. The animals may NOT be:

[/i], and must be an existing, successful hybrid. Shifters cannot be hybrids. e.g. A liger who was bred in a zoo, a jaglion who was bred illegally, a wolfxcoyote pairing bred to test genetics, etc etc. You can get creative with the reasons, but they must be bred/raised by humans.[PTab=JOINING]

08. You can purchase skills (A maximum of 5 per character), items, weapons etc. for your character with Currency Points (CP), which you earn by posting (10 CP per post), as well as creating threads (10 CP per thread created); points can be earned by posting in IC boards, and some OOC boards.

09. As of December 29 2012, for those wishing to create a character's shift form (or retromorph) with a rare coat color mutation such as albinism, leucism, melanism, pied/piebald, erythrism, and pseudo-melanism, you must purchase a pass for the desired color mutation in the Keeper's Shop PRIOR TO CHARACTER CREATION, and list the purchase in the "PURCHASED ITEMS" section of the character's application once it is approved. This pass can be applied to all animals.
Only animals where these mutations are extremely commonplace in an existing species may be exempted from purchasing the pass. If you believe it to be -extremely- common in the species, you may make the case in the shop thread, and link examples, if approved by the staff the pass will be free. This pass cannot be purchased after a character has been created and accepted.

general etiquette
01. Please, no fighting <3 Keep it civil, keep it clean! Respect everybody! It'll make the world a better place and keep things happy~
02. Do not steal ideas, pictures, art, characters, concepts, ANYTHING.
03. Absolutely NO pornographic images of any kind or any other adult rated things on this site (no images, links etc.) and this may not be included in posts.
04. Minor swearing is allowed, but please do not abuse it (posting profanity every two words). Please try to keep it out of OOC.
05. Graphics, including tables and signatures, may not be any larger than 600px in width, otherwise they stretch the board. Signatures or tables larger than this will either be re-sized or taken down. Please, for uniformity's sake, your main avatar must be 200px width X 350 height using the "Link only" option, including images in the character applications. We have options for your accounts to have more than one avatar. For help with that, please see this Helpful How-Tos thread!
06. We are an intermediate - advanced RP site. Please use proper grammar, punctuation and capitalization in all applications and posts.

01. I don't think I should have to mention this, but, no power-playing, god-modding, gary/mary sues, etc.
02. All posts must be at least 3 decent sized paragraphs (8-10+ sentences each). Which, for those of you who like word counts, is approximately 200-250+ words per post. We don't really do word counts here, and we strongly believe in quality over quantity. However, extremely short posts do not give other players much to reply to. We will not go through and count the words in each post, but be advised we are monitoring for general post length.
03. All posts are to be made in Third Person point of view! "he said, he walked" not "I said, I walked" (excepting IC charcter journals, fics, or threads post in the AU board)
04. As stated prior, minor swearing is permitted in IC posts, however if there IS a censored word, PLEASE DO NOT GO AROUND THE CENSOR. It's censored for a reason!
05. Liquid Time (allowing your character to partake in several different threads at once) is allowed, but please keep track of it and try to keep it to a minimum of 2-3 threads, though this isn't strictly required.
06. Please do not post any adult rated material in your threads, as we are rated PG-13. Smooching, violence, blood/gore etc. is permitted but within limitations--any sexual content is not allowed, and must 'fade to black' so to speak.
Please do not mark your threads as M or Mature, this is not permitted according to Proboards ToS.
08. When joining a thread that is already in progress, please make sure to PM the players involved first to get permission, even if it is listed as 'Open'. This is common role-playing courtesy!
09. Some common Thread Tags/Symbols:
[ P ] = Private, or a thread that is created for specific characters and is not open to the public!
[O] or [OPEN] = Threads that are open to the public & anyone who wishes to reply!
[C] or [COMPLETE] = When your threads are finished please edit the first post of the thread and put [C] or [COMPLETE] in the title so that staff know it can be archived.
character related activities
01. Regarding Changing Rings. If you want your character to switch Rings (Carna to Fulsi, Fulsi to Fallen, etc) you MUST pay for the "Switch Your Ring" Pass, bought in the Keeper's Shop.
The only exceptions are that you either have a Ctrl+Z Pass from a contest (basically an undo pass), or if you have a spy plot that is OK'd by an administrator. If the spy is caught/exposed and it is necessary for them to be removed from their original Ring, you can switch it for free. But this must be played out in threads. Your character will not transferred Rings without being role-played.
This is because there are too many characters just on a whim switching Rings which isn't realistic at all - it's making keeping Ring secrets difficult, not to mention that most Rings don't take kindly to deserters or willingly accept rival Ring members.
02. Custom Rogue Groups. Here on The Menagerie we allow you to create your very own custom group. However in order to create your own custom Rogue Group, you must first purchase the Rogue Group Creation Pass in the Keeper's Shop! Beyond simply creating your own group, this Pass opens the doors to claiming and creating your very own small slice of territory in the dome.

shifter and anthro breeding
To get a child at all, you must purchase a pass in the Keepers Shop. All shapeshifter or anthro children born into the dome are known as GENERATION MENAGERIE or GEN M. They have a specific application form found along with the other forms in the Registration board.
01. The parents-to-be must have a thread-based relationship: at least 5 completed threads of them together c: Remember, no mature/graphic content!
02. Shifters and Anthros can only breed with other Shifters and Anthros. No retromorphs.
03. The species of the baby is as follows: Shifter x Shifter = Always Shifter.
Anthro x Shifter = Shifter, VERY rarely will an Anthro be born. Anthros and Shifters can still produce offspring, and in extremely rare cases a fully mutated Anthro child will be born.
Anthro x Anthro = Shifter or Anthro. Having a fully mutated Anthro is more likely, but is still not a common occurrence.
04. Gen M babies age differently than normal shapeshifter/anthro babies. More information can be found in the FAQ.
retromorph breeding
Retromorphs do not require a Breeding Pass to create offspring, but there are a few passes you can buy for them in the Shop.

02. Retromorphs can only breed with:
» other Retromorphs. No exceptions.
» those of the same Group, aka general species. Example: canine with canine, feline with feline, etc
» those of the same general size, aka: No Mastiffs and Chihuahua's makin' babies, or lions breeding with house cats :c Otherwise there might be crushed bits of characters.
05. Post the statistics of both parents using the provided form in a new thread in the ORIGINS board, and after a WEEK in real life, staff will post your litter results - results are chosen randomly based on parental genetics (however, you can choose human form). You can make requests for genders/colors as well.
06. The species of your offspring will be based on either one of the parent's shifting forms. In example, if a lion and a jaguar bred, their children would be either a lion or a jaguar. However, their fur and markings may be affected. The access key for applications is UNIT.
07. You can purchase a HYBRID (mix of the two parent species) from the Keepers shop, and using our example, get a JAGLION! The hybrids can be in existence or you can create your own, within limits. Only one hybrid per litter.
08. If either one of the parents have skills, they can be passed down through to the litter at base level.
09. Each litter may consist of 1-4 offspring, decided randomly by the staff.
10. If you don't want to play all the offspring (who would?) you can either adopt them out to other members or play out their death IC (thread possibilities!) or just have it happen OOC.
